A rainy photo of the Wat Kaew Govararam temple in Krabi Town.
We only spent a few hours in Krabi Town one evening and it rained for most of our visit. As a result, the few sights such as this temple were relatively deserted.
From our hotel, the Dusit Thani Krabi Beach Resort it was a short (but expensive) bus ride into Krabi Town. The town is the main one in the area and would be a good hub for exploring the area. As it lacks beaches it felt a bit more like a real Thai town than say Ao Nang so that alone made it worth a visit.

From the yourkrabi.com website : "The recently completed Wat Kaew Govararam temple is another attraction – it is one of the few Thai temples designed in the modern style, with a plain white exterior. The grounds have an interesting garden with kitsch animal sculptures and, as a working temple, novice monks are often seen at work here."

The Sri Mariamman Temple is Singapore's oldest Hindu temple.
It is built in the South Indian architecture| style.
Due to its architectural and historical significance, the temple has been gazetted as a National Monument. Historically, the temple was the registry of Hindu marriages. At that time, only the priest of the Sri Mariamman Temple was authorized to solemnize Hindu marriages in Singapore.

Bagan (formerly Pagan) is an ancient city located in the Mandalay Region of Myanmar . From the 9th to 13th centuries, the city was the capital of the Kingdom of Pagan, the first kingdom to unify the regions that would later constitute modern Myanmar. During the kingdom's height between the 11th and 13th centuries, over 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries were constructed in the Bagan plains alone, of which the remains of over 2200 temples and pagodas still survive to the present day.

Though I thought this set looked great from the get go there were some things I really wanted to tweak; particularly the rather skimpy rockwork in front and the lack of seating room for the shadow theater. So here's my modified version - you can read more about how I did it here!

This well-preserved complex was visited by the Emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties for annual ceremonies of prayer to Heaven for good harvest. It is regarded as a Taoist temple, although Chinese Heaven worship, especially by the reigning monarch of the day, pre-dates Taoism.
The circular fence is made of white marbles with intricate carvings.

The temple of Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is certainly one of the most important temples in Chiang Mai, as well as one of the most revered among all Thais. The giant Chedi (seen here), covered with gold, is the dominant sight inside. It contains the Buddha relics. Wat Prathat Doi Suthep dates back from the fourteenth century.
The whole Chiang Mai set can be viewed here.

Borobudur temple in Jogjakarta at sunrise. Located at the Java Island, it is the world's largest Buddhist temple. Now it is a UNESCO heritage and the most visited tourist attraction in Indonesia.
Extract from UNESCO
"This famous Buddhist temple, dating from the 8th and 9th centuries, is located in central Java. It was built in three tiers: a pyramidal base with five concentric square terraces, the trunk of a cone with three circular platforms and, at the top, a monumental stupa. The walls and balustrades are decorated with fine low reliefs, covering a total surface area of 2,500 m2. Around the circular platforms are 72 openwork stupas, each containing a statue of the Buddha. The monument was restored with UNESCO's help in the 1970s."

What is Theravada Buddhism?
Theravada (pronounced — more or less — "terra-VAH-dah"), the "Doctrine of the Elders," is the school of Buddhism that draws its scriptural inspiration from the Tipitaka, or Pali canon, which scholars generally agree contains the earliest surviving record of the Buddha's teachings. For many centuries, Theravada has been the predominant religion of continental Southeast Asia (Thailand, Myanmar/Burma, Cambodia, and Laos) and Sri Lanka. Today Theravada Buddhists number well over 100 million worldwide. In recent decades Theravada has begun to take root in the West.
