The Temple of Sun
The Sacred Bilqis Temple
"The temple went through two historical stages, the first stage extending from the 2nd Millennium BC to the beginning of the 1st Millenium BC and the second starting from 850BC, to the end of the Sabean dynasty. Bilqis Temple is situated to the southwest of the old city of Marib. It is about 4km away and 1 km to the northwest of Bilqis Mahram. It is one of the most important temples of the Sabaean kingdom.
The hall is surrounded with a number of walls from the north, west and south. In front of the western wall there are erected a number of marble seats and from the open yard there are 12 steps leading to the sacred room where the six columns stand (now there are only five columns, the sixth being broken), with decorated crowns. Every column is over 17 tons in weight, 12m in length. It is one of the most famous symbols of Yemeni history and civilization."
To finish the day I found the Temple of Sun Park. It is not far from the British Embassy and there were lots of Chinese Police around. By the time I got there it was nearly dark so the pictures are just my trying to make use of what is available.

One of the very few pagan temples left in Armenia. Pre-Christian, it wasn't destroyed because of it's location. The Princesses of the time thought the location wonderful plus it had great Roman style baths so they left the temple as a summer residence and only got rid of the pagan images. The columns are made of basalt as there were basalt cliffs nearby

Today I went for a quick look at Rìtán 日壇 (Temple of the Sun). Besides a few strollers, the entire park was empty! I enjoyed my quiet walk which was much needed after the non-stop fireworks and loud temple fairs etc in the last few days.
