The shores of Portugal have been suffering with the stregh of the Atlantic these last few days.
This looks better: 'bad-tempered Atlantic Ocean' On Black
I had to chuckle at the antics of this little juvenile woodpecker. For several days his mother had brought him here and fed suet to him. Today the mother was at the suet basket but she stopped feeding him and was eating the suet herself. Junior fussed at her and raised the sparse red feathers on top of his head which was a woodpecker version of a temper tantrum.

The Bajao and Samal people of Tawi-Tawi are fearless boat people then and now who brave the turbulent straights of Malacca, Sulu and Celebes for hundreds of years. These traditional boats are made locally in the islands, particularly in Bongao and Sibutu. Made of hardwood cured and bent by smoking, they are a wonder to witness being manufactured (we were lucky to see how this is done in the traditional manual method by a singular man!!!) and manouvred in the ocean. What you see here are water taxis as seen from the boat that has to dock at an offshore pier in Tumindau, about 3 kilometers off Sitangkai island. Colorful and powerful, the boats are a source of pride for the people of Sulu.

Queuing, it's what the British are renowned for doing - and doing very well. Better than anyone else in the world, if reputation is to be believed.
This candid shot in Germany shows that not everybody finds queing easy.

Pictures taken at MoD Abbey Wood, home to the Defence Equipment and Support procurement organisation, showing personnel deployed on Operation Temperer. Deployed personnel are from CLR [Commando Logistics Regiment], Barnstaple, Devon.
Military personnel are being placed in key public locations to support armed police in protecting the public. These include Buckingham Palace, Downing Street, embassies and the Palace of Westminster.
Operation TEMPERER – the mobilisation plan for military support to the police service following a major terrorist attack - has been initiated. Military personnel will be deployed alongside the police at nominated sites to provide additional protective security.
They will be backfilling existing armed guarding roles filled by armed police units, thereby releasing armed police officers to support the wider incident response.

Barn swallow (Hirundo rustica) - Horicon Marsh, Wisconsin
This little fledgling got very excited when an adult flew in but then immediately was disappointed when the adult flew past without feeding it. This one and the other fledglings would sit around waiting for the adults to fly in and feed them, the fledglings are capable of flight and would fly and hop from branch to branch as they waited for food. They are not yet able to hunt the gnats and mosquitoes that the adults were gathering on their own but they're already eating machines so the adults have their work cut out for them and frequently had to stop by and deposit their hard earned midges, gnats, and mosquitoes into the hungry mouths of their offspring.
If you've ever had the misfortune to be on the receiving end of a serious tantrum from a disgruntled toddler because they were denied another hour of toy unboxing videos on youtube or somesuch then you'll know where I'm coming from with this one. One minute they're all cool and calm and within seconds of giving them the bad news that they've got to put the tablet down you can see the drawbridge coming down and the big guns coming out.
Before you know it they're shouting and screaming and then you're stuck in the moral quandary of being emotionally blackmailed by a small child. Do you back down and give them the tablet back 'just for 5 more minutes' to get a bit of peace and quiet or do you stick to your guns and force them into a highly melodramatic blowout? The choice is yours...
As an aside, cutting through thick perspex with the cheapest jig saw money can buy was somewhat problematic and the kid cutout we have here is actually the second version as I managed to snap the head off the previous one. Needless to say I almost had a temper tantrum myself.
Cheers

Child throwing a temper tantrum by laying down on the ice-cold pavement, while the mother tries to reason with her.
Bratislava, Slovakia; 2018
Well Temper Tantrum Timmy was at it again. This time screeching for mom likely to get the adult squirrel off of the seed platform so he could get in there an pig out. Next thing I know, he looks down then flies at me wings flapping and still screeching like something out that classic movie The Birds.
I want to thank each and everyone in advance who took the time to visit my little space here on Flickr.
