Park Tower (formerly known as the Lykes Building) is a skyscraper located in downtown Tampa, Florida. It is Tampa's first high-rise tower. At the time of its completion in November 1973, it was the tallest in Florida, and is currently sixth-tallest in Tampa, at 458 feet (36 stories). It was the tallest building in Tampa until One Tampa City Center was built in 1981.

This is known as the Sciutu Tower, located in Wied iz-Zurrieq, near the village of Qrendi, Malta. This tower was built on an earlier medieval watch post in 1638 during the reign of Grand Master Lascaris Buring the British period, the tower was used by by the Royal Malta Fencible Regiment and the Royal Malta Fencible Artillery. During World War II it was used by the coast police and then used as a police station until 2002. This tower is one of a number of towers that surround the island of Malta. From one tower at least two other towers (or sentry points), on opposites sides are visible. Before the age of radio and telephony, in the case of invasion, a fire or smoke signal lit on one tower could be seen from the other two, thus raising an alert around the island.

His Genius lives despite massive cover-up.

Nikola Tesla's prediction of a smartphone, Collier’s magazine interview, 1926:

"When wireless is perfectly applied the whole earth will be converted into a huge brain, which in fact it is, all things being particles of a real and rhythmic whole. We shall be able to communicate with one another instantly, irrespective of distance.

Not only this, but through television and telephony we shall see and hear one another as perfectly as though we were face to face, despite intervening distances of thousands of miles; and the instruments through which we shall be able to do his will be amazingly simple compared with our present telephone.

A man will be able to carry one in his vest pocket."

Small commerce and services hold a dominant place in Burkina Faso as elsewhere in Africa. In most cases, these are informal activities carried out directly in the street or in small wooden or sheet metal huts nicknamed "kiosks". Preparing pork in the oven is a widespread speciality on the Central Plateau. Traditionally prepared in a wood-fired clay oven, artisans have gradually introduced metal ovens that are more easily movable but have less good cooking quality and taste. In the background, the “Télécentre” is an activity that has gone down in history. Always painted blue in the colours of ONATEL (national telephone operator), these were public telephone booths that quickly disappeared with mobile telephony's arrival and competition from new private operators. The initially high cost of mobile phone units contributed to the short-lived survival of some telecenters before they declined.

Not sure if the antenna was just for mundane mobile telephony or more for listening to the noise of the universe.

cage them before they turn on you...

Building Radio Kootwijk, Veluwe NL - 1922 - architect Julius Maria Luthmann.

The housing accommodations of Radio Kootwijk arose as a result of the building of a shortwave transmitter site with the same name, starting in 1918. The transmitters played an important role in the 20th century as a communication facility between the Netherlands and its colony of Dutch East Indies. In 1923 Dutch PTT (Post, Telegraph and Telephone Company) started trans-oceanic telegraphy using a longwave transmitter, a 400 KW high frequency alternator, from the German Telefunken company under the call sign PCG, in the 24 kHz and 48 kHz. By 1925 the longwave transmitter was changed by a shortwave tube based, electronic transmitter which had a much better performance due to the better propagation of short waves. With this new technology, in 1928 a radio-telephonic connection was established. At the end of World War II, the German occupying forces blew up the transmitter. Afterward some of the radio towers were rebuilt. Due to the development of new technologies like satellite communication, Radio Kootwijk lost its position as main overseas wireless connection point of the Netherlands. In 1980, the last transmission mast was blown up. In 2004 the park lost its last transmitter functions, and was transferred from the telephone company to the State Forestry Commission, which started attracting new buyers. The main building of the former transmitter park and named 'Building A', 'The Cathedral' or sometimes 'The Sphinx', was officially appointed as a monument. It is used as venue and scenery for several cultural events and productions, including the American film Mind Hunters in 2004.

Radio Kootwijk is a small town in the Dutch municipality of Apeldoorn, with approximately 120 inhabitants (in 2006). It is situated in a heather- and forest-rich territory in the Veluwe region, east of the sandhills of the Kootwijkerzand and the town of Kootwijk.

Skene Terrace (again). Telephonic (?) spaghetti as the spring (who knows?) sun catches these wires and renders some bizarre shadows and lines.

A vintage candlestick telephone, characterized by its distinctive and elegant early-20th-century design. The phone's age is apparent in the texture of its metal surface, worn and partially stripped of paint, revealing a mix of black paint and aged brass beneath, giving it an authentic antique charm. The mouthpiece is large and funnel-shaped, slightly tilted downward, while the slender, cylindrical body rises prominently from a round, weighted base. A coiled cord snakes away from the receiver, emphasizing the phone’s analog nature.

The scene is illuminated with a warm, ambient glow, casting gentle highlights and shadows across the phone and accentuating the metallic textures. In the background, hints of soft orange light enhance a cozy, nostalgic atmosphere, while blurred objects such as vintage containers, jars, and greenery subtly decorate the scene, contributing to the overall antique ambiance. The entire composition evokes a sense of history, nostalgia, and timelessness, capturing a relic of past communication technology in a richly detailed and moody setting.

Park Tower is located in the heart of downtown Tampa directly across from The Tampa Riverwalk & Hillsborough River; Curtis Hixon and Gaslight Parks; the Glazer Children's Museum and the Tampa Museum of Art. It is within walking distance of the Tampa Convention Center, University of Tampa, and the David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Performing Arts.

In 2016 the tower was purchased by a joint venture consisting of affiliates of NYSE listed City Office REIT (NYSE: CIO), Feldman Equities LLC, and Tower Realty Partners for $79.75 million. The group completed a multi-million-dollar renovation in 2019. The most significant change at Park Tower is the modernization of the office building's façade by painting the exterior a lighter color and upgrading the main entrance. The building's amenities were upgraded with a modern lobby and the addition of Buddy Brew Coffee café. The office tower's updated design was created by internationally renowned architect Gensler.

Since acquiring the property, new leases have been signed including the headquarters relocation of CAPTRUST Advisors, LLC, Buddy Brew Coffee and Continuity Logic, LLC. Anchor tenants include BB&T, United States Department of Justice – US Attorney's Office, Level 3 Communications and Lykes Insurance.

Park Tower is LEED EB Gold Certified and EPA Energy Star certified.

The tower's amenities include FedEx Office, U.S. Post Office, BB&T Bank, Grow Financial Credit Union, Pearl Salon, Nature's Table Café, a fitness center, conference room and a 6th-floor tenant lounge, lobby concierge and Buddy Brew Coffee.

Park Tower is the "Telco-Hotel" for the region, with a major telephony and internet presence.

The building has two underground 13.2kV electrical feeds from the utility power company, one of which is from the high-priority medical grid and multiple diverse entry points for fiber optic and other data cabling. Park Tower is home to a large underground Federal Reserve Vault. The building also features video-enhanced 24x7x365 on-site security.

When it was originally built, the tower was the home of The First National Bank of Tampa, later First National Bank of Florida (First Florida Corporation). Park Tower was also the headquarters of the Lykes Brothers Corporation. The tower was purchased by Sterling American Property of New York City for $27.4 million in 2006 and underwent its first restoration including newly renovated elevators, air conditioning, and replacement of much of the electrical distribution system. The building later became the downtown Tampa headquarters of Colonial Bank, now BB&T. BB&T's sign is still featured on the top of the building.

And so yet again angel was right.. I decided to pay Mister Johnny an unexpected visit only to be met at the door by a hooker I think? i'm not sure definitely L.A. Strip hangabout either way she was just as surprised as I was.. but not as much as the look on his face as he potato sack jumped putting his pants on following me to my car.. with "w..Wait Ronnie.. V..Veronica.. hold up!" I just got in my car and drove away.. and that's when my cell phone grew a life of it's own.. a never ending string of phone calls.. woke up the next morning seen voice mail had messages "good morning Veronica you have.. one hundred.. and.. sixty five... voice mail messages.. first call... from.. Johnny.. "Ronnie... it's not what you think.. come on baby.. pick up the" deleted.. message.. next message "Veronica.. why are you acting like a child.. answer your damn phone come... " deleted.. next message.. "god dammit Ronnie.. your gonna let a little something like this ruin this beautiful relationship we.. ha..." deleted messages.. you have no more messages..

I sighed deeply and decided to go down to the hotel pool to sit and think.. the hell have I gotten myself into.. why do men have to be so fucking complicating.. when they know there caught they just caught and need to fess up to it.. ringgggggggggggggg and here it goes again.. I closed the call and left this text.. "dear Johnny.. i'm not sure what kind of brainless idiot you seem to think I am but I am definitely not brainless nor blind.. I would think our parting of ways would have given you the dignity to understand that 1. i'm not that type of girl and 2. I definitely do not want to see you again or speak to you.. i'm sure we will run into one another once in a while and if so I think it best we both just pretend we've never met.. and this.. whatever the hell it was never happened.. delete my number, delete me from your head and remember I don't exist.. I think we both have summaged i'm not the type of girl you want or need babes.. i'm definitely not that type.. please do not contact me again..

Ronnie"

the phone went silent blessed silence for all of five minutes before it blew up to life again.. I just rubbed my tired and hung over head and sighed.. later that night when I sifted through the rest of the cursing and crying voice mail one and one only would mean anything.. and it would change the direction of my life forever..

"Hello Miss Sinclair this is Jack Goldstein.. your father's lawyer.. I am sorry to be the one to break this news to you and your little brother Jerik but your parents unexpectedly perished in a fatal car accident last night in San Diego.. and your presence is needed at the San Diego University Hospital as soon as possible.. again I am terribly sorry please contact me if you need anything." beeeeeep

"Spiderwebs"

You think that we connect

That the chemistry's correct

Your words walk right through my ears

Presuming I like what I hear

And now I'm stuck in the

The web you're spinning

You've got me for you prey

[Pre-chorus:]

(Yeah) Sorry I'm not home right now

I'm walking into spiderwebs

So leave a message

And I'll call you back

A likely story, but (Yeah) leave a message

And I'll call you back

You're intruding on what's mine

And you're taking up my time

Don't have the courage inside me

To tell you, "Please let me be"

Communication, a telephonic invasion

I'm planning my escape...

[Pre-chorus]

[Chorus:]

And it's all your fault

I screen my phone calls

No matter who calls

I gotta screen my phone calls

Now it's gone to deep (Now, it's gone too deep)

You wake me in my sleep (Wake me in my sleep)

My dreams become nightmares (Dreams become nightmares)

'Cause you're ringing in my ears

[Pre-chorus]

[Chorus]

Oooh, the spiderwebs

Leave a message and I'll call you back

I'm walking into spiderwebs

So, leave a message and I'll call you back

I'm walking into spiderwebs

It's all your fault, no matter who calls

I gotta screen my phone calls

It's all your fault, it's all your fault

No matter who calls, no matter who calls

I'm walking into spiderwebs so,

Leave a message and I'll call you back

I'm walkin into spiderwebs

Leave a message and I'll call you back

Ooh, it's all your fault

No matter who calls

I gotta screen my phone call

It's all your fault

No matter-matter-matter who calls

I screen my phone calls

[Fading:]

I'm walkin into spiderwebs

Leave a message and I'll call you back

Here I was, thinking this telephone box, now street library plus lots more was an oversized box having eaten all its telephonic vitamins! Despite that rather narrow door! But my google searches for this style of box went unrequited until....a TripAdvisor shot revealed it is or was a New Zealand box. No wonder it was unfamiliar to me (although I have had a few trips to that wonderful country). So someone with their heart in the Land of the Long White Cloud has had it shipped over. I found one shot where a guy had titled it his Chilly Bin (translation - Aussie...Chully Bun = Esky; elsewhere = cooler I guess)! And ok, I am open to be teased back, I am a Queenslander with broad shoulders, we have copped it for years!

A Ministry of Works for the New Zealand Post Office telephone box which I am sure my NZ flickr friends GG, Lance, Darryl and Dominic will remember well. In fact, there seem to be more photos of these on google than Aussie ones. Kind of looks to me that if you are of well built stature, you may have to turn sideways though. Now I'm getting claustrophobia just looking at it!

This was another find in the mean streets of Shorncliffe, Brisbane and dedicated to my Brisbane flickr friend SC, who by the way, as far as I know is not a Kiwi.

The tower rises on the hill of Fourvière, mounted Nicolas de Lange, in the 5th district. It dominates the district of Vieux Lyon and the course of the Saône located below. Culminating at 372 m above sea level, it remains the highest point of Lyon. Built on the hill at the altitude of 291 m, it measures 85.90 m for a mass of 210 tons. It is anchored in 7,200 tons of masonry and consists of 2,100 metal farms that form an architecture relatively similar to that of the third floor of the Eiffel Tower. On November 1, 1953, the tower was bought for fifteen million francs from the Gay family by the French radio and television (RTF), which seeks a high point for the broadcast of the only television channel whose station Lyonnaise is inaugurated on 8 November 1954.

In 1963, it became a relay antenna RTF supporting many television transmitters, telephony and other public services and is no longer accessible to the public. The decor of the base of the tower is replaced by concrete, the upper terrace removed and the elevator is replaced by an electric model of 4 places.

Nikola Tesla (Никола Тесла; 10 July 1856 – 7 January 1943) was a Serbian-American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, physicist, and futurist who is best known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current (AC) electricity supply system.

Tesla gained experience in telephony and electrical engineering before emigrating to the United States in 1884 to work for Thomas Edison in New York City. He soon struck out on his own with financial backers, setting up laboratories and companies to develop a range of electrical devices. His patented AC induction motor and transformer were licensed by George Westinghouse, who also hired Tesla for a short time as a consultant. His work in the formative years of electric-power development was involved in a corporate alternating current/direct current "War of Currents" as well as various patent battles. He became a naturalized US citizen in 1891.
