Today, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets played in the Homecoming game against the Virginia Tech Hokies. I didn't attend the football game, but I was at Georgia Tech's campus and captured a few images prior to the game.

The Homecoming theme this year was “Buzz under the Big Top.”

I captured the shot seen in today's entry outside of the Phi Mu sorority at Georgia Tech. Note the large bag supporting Buzz. There were really strong winds today—between fifteen and twenty miles per hour—which made for a very chilly autumn day. Temperatures were in the forties, but the presence of wind made it feel much colder.

The football game at Bobby Dodd Stadium began at 6:01 PM (interesting time to kick off the game), and it was one wild game. Georgia Tech came into this game ranked #19 in the nation, while Virginia Tech was ranked #4, hungry to keep winning for a shot at the national championship game in Pasadena, CA. I say it was a wild game because Georgia Tech completed just one pass in the entire game. However, Georgia Tech used the spread option offense to its advantage, tallying up 309 yards on the ground (with 272 of those yards coming in the second half, when Georgia Tech picked up the intensity).

Josh Nesbitt, Georgia Tech's quarterback, rushed for 122 yards, scoring three touchdowns in the process. It was a great game for him, albeit not a perfect one: he made a few sloppy throws while executing the option, including throwing the ball away on one play which resulted in a fumble recovery by the Hokies.

Nesbitt’s lone completion in the game—a 51-yarder to Demaryius Thomas (see the image I captured of him in a game against Clemson here)—set up a touchdown that allowed Georgia Tech to take a 7-3 lead going into halftime.

Virginia Tech kept it close in the fourth quarter. As Georgia Tech was driving to score in the fourth quarter, Nesbitt made an errant pitch that sailed behind Roddy Jones. Virginia Tech's Davon Morgan fell on the loose ball, giving the Hokies new life with just under five minutes remaining. Virginia Tech acted swiftly, picking up 77 yards in six plays, bringing the score to 21-16. Virginia Tech failed to score on a 2-point conversion, however. On the ensuing Georgia Tech possession, Georgia Tech ran one of its best plays of the night. With third down and seven yards to go from the Hokies' 39 yard line, Nesbitt ran to his left, did not exercise the option, and kept moving forward. Nesbitt stayed inbounds as Virginia Tech's Dorian Porch was unable to stop Nesbitt near the five yard line; the result was a 39 yard touchdown run for Nesbitt, and a lead for Georgia Tech 27-16. After the successful point-after, Georgia Tech kicked it off.

Virginia Tech still kept pushing with just three minutes to go in the game. Virginia Tech's quarterback Tyrod Taylor drove the Hokies from their 39 yard line for a scoring drive, bringing the score to 28-23. The only chance Virginia Tech had now was to go for the onside kick, which they did. The kick was fair, but it sailed high, and Georgia Tech recovered. With less than two minutes to go and with no time outs left, Virginia Tech could only watch. Georgia Tech took three consecutive knees and the game was over. Final score in Atlanta: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 28, Virginia Tech Hokies 23.

Virginia Tech was perhaps the toughest opponent Georgia Tech has played in a Homecoming game in the last decade or so. It was a great game, and I wish I was part of the crowd which stormed onto the field after this great victory!

After the crowd stormed the field, they took down the goalpost in the North End of the stadium. It was the first time the goalpost(s) came down at Bobby Dodd Stadium since the Yellow Jackets' victory over the Auburn Tigers in the 2003 season (I was at that game). The fans carried the goalpost to President Bud Peterson's house, and you can see the presentation of the goal post in this video.

Simple Difference between SQL and MySQL is SQL supports a single storage engine, but MySQL supports multiple storage engines and also plug-in storage engines. Thus, MySQL is more flexible. In SQL, the server remains independent of the database, which means that you can perform other operations on a database during a data backup session
