People attend to their cell phones, tablets, and laptops with the same overwhelming attention they might give a newborn child. Hours are spent with googly eyes peering down at their loved ones, a bright face shining in return. Timely and thought-provoking themes will guide the 2023 Atlanta Talks Series, revisiting projects that range from regional to urban to architectural scales. The series, hosted by Professor Dr. Ingeborg Rocker1, invites professionals from Atlanta and beyond to hear about fresh trends, inquire into pressing topics and imagine solutions for a more circular, sustainable, and just economy.
Our first roundtable in the series features
Douglas Hooker, the retired Executive Director of the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC),
Landscape Architect Kate Orff, designer of a 125 mile long multimodal trail along the Chattahoochee River, and
Ryan Gravel, an alumnus of the school, whose thesis project launched the Atlanta BeltLine.
Our guests will explore how large regional infrastructure projects significantly inform the social and cultural landscape of a city.

Robots were in action on Saturday, Jan. 21, at Penn State York when 35 teams of middle and high school students took part in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) South Central PA Regional Qualifier, a robotics competition. More than 500 attendees, including competitors, volunteers, and spectators attended the event. The winning alliance, comprised of three teams, were the Javengers from Enola, Pennsylvania; Cubix^3 from Hampstead, Maryland; and Sparks from Villanova, Pennsylvania. The finalist alliance, or second place winners, included Imagine It from Palmyra, Pennsylvania; Metal Works from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and GearHounds, from York, Pennsylvania. This was the seventh time the campus has hosted an FTC event.
