I was stunned at the prices these were going for . . . I owned lots in the areas and thought I was going to be a millionaire, lol. Unfortunately, I held on to my vacant land as an asset to sell as needed, now I can't afford the taxes. Now, I realize that it's bad karma to hold onto a lot of vacant land, the land should be used.

This brochure has been drifting around my office as a reminder.

The Zoning dept sent me a note to secure the front door; got the house through tax-liens. I let the son of the woman who owned it live there for at least three years (she died) without paying rent, he recently moved out. It smelled like piss inside . . . I didn't see if it had a bathroom or kitchen! (Stupid me!)

UPDATE (June 27, 2009): Got a call from someone interested in buying the house . . . they looked closer and told me it can't be fixed and should be torn down! The City offered to tear it down for me. It's made of adobe, which is hard to restore.

UPDATE (Feb. 22, 2010): Someone started a fire in the house so the City is going to tear it down for free.

UPDATE: The house is no longer there.

Tax Liens are liens imposed on properties which has an unpaid tax debt in it. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is a government body who closely monitor the tax details of each and every property. If they found any properties with outstanding tax amounts, they will remind the taxpayer to settle the due within time by sending a series of notices. After the final federal notice, if the tax amounts still be the same, they will put a lien against the property. Once the lien is placed, the owner must pay the full tax amount with penalties and interest to the investor to get rid of the lien.
