Task Force ODIN relinquished mission authority for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance support to U.S. and coalition forces in Afghanistan to Task Force Lightning, Mar. 26, 2017. ODIN (Observe, Detect, Identify, Neutralize) was established as a theater headquarters staffed by individual augmentees from all U.S. military services, civilians and contractors. This transfer deactivates the existence of TF ODIN. The 525th Military Intelligence Brigade, from Fort Bragg, N.C. assumes the mission as TF Lightning. Task Force Longhorn, the 303rd Military Intelligence Battalion (Aerial Exploitation), transferred its Resolute Support mission authority to TF Sentinels, the 502nd MI Battaion (AE) during a ceremony held June 13, 2016 at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan.
Virginia National Guard Soldiers assigned to the Fort Belvoir-based 29th Infantry Division reunite with family and friends in Virginia July 14, 2017, after serving on federal active duty since September 2016 in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. While overseas, the Soldiers formed Task Force 29 and conducted joint training and engagements with personnel from the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army as well as other allied countries to promote regional stability. Task Force Marauder officially gained responsibility of their mission in Afghanistan from Task Force Warhawk during a transfer of authority ceremony Oct. 28, 2017. Lt. Col. Robert Bryant and Command Sgt. Maj. Christopher Coolbaugh, Task Force Warhawk, relinquished responsibility to Lt. Col. Brian Pipkin and Command Sgt. Maj. Charles Hancock, Task Force Marauder. Task Force Marauder is made up of Soldiers from South Carolina National Guard, Illinois National Guard, Iowa National Guard, as well as active duty component and provides aviation capabilities with AH64 Apaches, UH60 Black Hawks, CH47 Chinooks, and MEDEVAC assets in Afghanistan under the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade while deployed.
