Task Force Dragon from the 10th Combat Aviation Brigade, 10th Mountain Division (LI), comprised of Soldiers from 1-10 AB, 2-10 AHB, and Army National Guard Soldiers from CT, PA, and LA, received the LTG Ellis D. Virginia National Guard Soldiers assigned to Task Force Red Dragon return to Virginia and reunite with loved ones and fellow Soldiers Sept. 25, 2022, in Sandston, Virginia, after serving on federal active duty since November 2021. More than 1,000 Virginia and Kentucky National Guard troops under the command of the Lynchburg-based 1st Battalion, 116th Infantry Regiment, 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team conducted security operations throughout the Horn of Africa and provided the East Africa Response Force in support of the U.S. government for crisis response throughout East Africa. A transfer of authority ceremony with the New York Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry Regiment was conducted Sept. 19. More Soldiers will return to Virginia in the coming weeks after completing administrative tasks transitioning them back to a traditional National Guard status, but an exact date for their return has not been finalized. Members of the Virginia Defense Force volunteered their time to assist with traffic management and parking. The Task Force Marauder medical evacuation (medevac) company participated in a mass casualty exercise with the Role 3 hospital, Dec. 23, 2017, in Afghanistan to practice and refine procedures in the event of a real-world emergency. Detachment 1, Charlie Company, 2-211th General Support Aviation Battalion (GSAB), MEDEVAC, Iowa National Guard, with Task Force Marauder partnered with the hospital, base emergency medical services, Polish special forces, U.S. Air Force security forces, and U.S. Army 82nd Airborne service members for the exercise. C Co., 2-211th GSAB (MEDEVAC) provided aerial transportation and en route medical care for simulated casualties before transporting the patients to the hospital for follow-on care. The purpose of the exercise was to test current practices and communication in a controlled environment. Task Force Marauder consists of Soldiers from South Carolina National Guard, Illinois National Guard, Iowa National Guard, as well as active duty component and provides aviation capabilities with AH64 Apaches, UH60 Black Hawks, CH47 Chinooks, and medevac assets in Afghanistan under the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade while deployed. On Saturday, Aug. 27, the 107th Airlift Wing will deploy 45 Airmen as part of TASK FORCE IRENE will be stationed at Camp Smith near Albany NY. These airmen will remain in place at the center to ride out the storm and then immediately respond to aid civil authorities as directed in New York City.
