In ancient times, a prophet named Jonah

Received a command from God, a persona

"Go to Nineveh," the Lord said to him

"And preach repentance to every single sin"

But Jonah, he did not want to go

To that city full of wickedness and woe

So he fled from God's presence, far away

On a ship to Tarshish, he sailed astray

But God sent a storm, mighty and strong

That threatened to sink the ship before long

The sailors were scared and called out to their gods

While Jonah slept soundly, ignoring the odds

The captain woke him up with a start

And asked him to pray to his God with all his heart

But Jonah knew the storm was all his fault

For running away from God's holy vault

So he told the sailors to throw him overboard

And into the sea, he was quickly poured

The storm calmed down, and the sailors were amazed

By the power of God, who they now praised

As for Jonah, he was swallowed by a whale

For three long days, he was trapped in its tail

But God had a plan for his stubborn prophet

To preach to Nineveh, he would finally submit.

But Jonah ran away from the LORD and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the LORD.

On the 150th birth day of Canada achieving its independence we consider how it relates to Bible prophecy. We will consider Ezekiel, Daniel, Isaiah, Jeremiah and other prophecies that discuss the King of the South or The Merchants of Tarshish and her young lions.

Jaffa (sometimes called Joppa) is the place where Jonah went and took a ship to Tarshish, after he received a call from God to go preach to the people at Nineveh. Jonah did not want to go. So he went down to Jaffa and took a ship to Tarshish, in hopes of running away from God. He went down deep into the hull of the ship, and fell asleep.

A great storm came upon the ship. The sailors (Gentiles) know that it must be because of this passenger. He must be disobeying his own God, and that's why this storm has come upon them. So they throw Jonah overboard, and the storm ceases. Jonah is swallowed up by a whale or, as the Scripture says, "a Great Fish".
