The ruins of the mighty Norman walls remain of the castle , and it is not possible to establish the exact time of construction , the only certain element , regarding the construction of this defensive work comes from the Greek Byzantine wording of the 10th century, engraved in the marble plaque place on the facade of the Bell Tower of the Mother Church. This castle was built under Constantine Caramelo, the last strategist of Tauromenion in the 9th century , although this suggests a location in the middle age , most historian agree with an older building in the Roman period ...
"Taormina is a hilltop town on the east coast of Sicily. It sits near Mount Etna, an active volcano with trails leading to the summit. The town is known for the Teatro Antico di Taormina, an ancient Greco--Roman theater still used today. Near the theater, cliffs drop to the sea forming coves with sandy beaches. A narrow stretch of sand connects to Isola Bella, a tiny island and nature reserve."

Known as the “Pearl of the Mediterranean”, Taormina has been a sought-after vacation destination since Roman times. It sits near Mount Etna, an active volcano with trails leading to the summit. We had our first rain day in Taormina, but it was delightful anyway. Taormina is approached through the sea-level town of Giardini Naxos, where our cruise ship tendered (no dock large enough). 37.8551, 15.2816
Qué diré de este lugar
que al corazón se me pega
y dulcemente despliega
la amistad a compartir.
No hay volcán que enturbie,
con su lava y sus cenizas,
la belleza que origina
una imagen del lugar.
Y si quieres que te diga
siempre es bonito vivir
en "la casa del monte Tauro"
que eso significa
la ciudad de Taormina.
The last remaining panorama from Taormina, Sicily, taken after dusk, this time the daylight POV was closed and I had to find an alternative. Unfortunately the POV didn't include Etna, but it didn't matter at all, as the volcano was firmly covered in clouds during my entire stay there.
Another view of Taormina, this time from much higher up with view of the entire town, but not the peninsulas below, which are hidden from view.
If it wasn't for my ankle injury, today's upload would have been a road photo, I was supposed to fly out to Estonia and would have been flying between Greenland and Iceland at this very moment, but sadly, that trip has gone up in smoke and I still don't know what will replace it. Lesson learned: Tread carefully.
The large pink building is the famous S. Domenico Palace.
