Forse.”

Arriving into the Gemas station working train 41: the 15:50 Pulau Sebang/Tampin - Johor Bahru Sentral 'Ekspres Selatan' (Southern Express).

This train comprised part of my journey from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore. Unfortunately there is not one through train nowadays, and the line has been destroyed within Singapore Island (though there are now plans to connect Malaysia to Singapore via high speed rail and then a connection to Singapore's metro system. This particular station was rebuilt in 2012 as part of the Seremban-Gemas double tracking and electrification - and it certainly seems much too big for the current service levels.

These 2400 horsepower locomotives were built by Toshiba Electric Co, Japan and were introduced to Malaysia in 1987.

Beata umbritudine, umbra beatitudine.

A new edition to my collection, Canonet 28.

The later Canonet 28 35mm rangefinder camera is a cheaper consumer version of the famous Canonet QL17. The lens is a fixed 40mm f/2.8 Canon lens. It has fully programmed auto exposure with shutter speeds from 1/30 to 1/600 (shown by the meter's needle in the viewfinder), and manual control of f-stops for flash (f2.8-f16). The film speed range for auto exposure is from 25 to 400 ASA. It uses a Copal leaf shutter and has a coupled rangefinder. It was made in Taiwan.

Actually, it is not in Melaka town, it is on the way from Tampin to Melaka town center. This traditional house is the only one which has been more than 100 years. There are people living in it. The construction style and materials used are very local and characteristic, for example, the roof is made of coral.

The state of Malacca covers an area of 1,650-sq. km. or 0.5 percent of the whole area of Malaysia. The state is divided into 3 districts, that is Central Melaka (Melaka Tengah) (314 km²), Alor Gajah (660 km²), and Jasin (676 km²). Malacca is located on the southwestern coast of Malay Peninsula opposite Sumatra, with the state of Negeri Sembilan to the north and Johor to the east. Malacca is also situated roughly two-thirds of the way down the West coast, 148 km south of Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia and 245 km north of Singapore and commanding a central position on the Straits of Malacca. The state capital Malacca Town is strategically located between the two national capitals (of Malaysia and Singapore respectively) and is linked with excellent roads and highways. Malacca is yet to have its own train station, though the terminal at Tampin, Negeri Sembilan is easily accessible. It has a domestic airport terminal located in Batu Berendam.

The offshore Pulau Besar, Pulau Upeh and Tanjung Tuan are also parts of Malacca.

for anyone who has attended a taoist funeral and wondered what the beliefs are and what the ceremonies signify. I'm still confused, but am a little less than what i was before.

Funeral ceremonies

Taoist ceremonies for the dead often include an altar upon which are placed a sacred lamp, two candles, tea, rice, and water. The sacred lamp symbolizes the light of wisdom, yet it could also be referred to as the Golden Pill or Elixir of Immortality. On each side of the lamp are two tall candles that symbolize the light of the sun, moon, and both eyes of the human body. The tea, rice and water are put in cups in front of the altar. The tea symbolizes yin, water is the energy of the yang, and rice represents the union of the yin and the yang.

Five plates of fruit are used to symbolize the five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. These elements are further equated with specific colors: green, red, yellow, white, and black. These elements all go in a cycle that when balanced ensure that the body is healthy. An incense burner is placed in the middle of the five elements. The burning of the incense represents refinement and purification of the soul, also known as the inner energies.

The ceremony usually takes place in a person’s house and is held over an odd number of days, usually three, five or seven days. The candle is lit up for the body all that time before burial. During the vigil and the funeral the relatives wear white.

Immortality

A very common and major goal of most Taoists is to achieve immortality rather than enter the regular after life. Reaching this goal is not easy; there are various tasks that must me met during your entire lifetime to be qualified to be immortal. The two different categories of requirements for immortality include internal alchemy and external alchemy.

External alchemy is mastering special breathing techniques, sexual practices, physical exercises, yoga, attempting to produce an elixir of immortality by consuming purified metals and complex compounds, and to develop medical skills. In Taoism one’s soul or energy is considered to be interlocked with the vital energy, which is what nourishes your soul. Riding the body of impurities can increase this energy. Aside from these requirements, you must lead an upright, moral and good-hearted life.

Internal alchemy includes sophisticated visualization, strict dieting, specific sexual exercises and self-control. A strict diet was committed to kill demons within the body and to stimulate and maintain energy. The body is purified by the consumption of refined substances such as, jade or gold. The many different types of meditation all revolved around the common idea of breathing. Much of a Taoist’s time is spent meditating. A popular rule of thumb for breathing techniques include holding one’s breath for 12 heartbeats, better known as a “little tour”, 420 heartbeats is the “grand tour” and the most prominent achievement in breathing is holding one’s breath for 1000 heartbeats. Carl Jung was among those who interpreted internal alchemy in a purely spiritual, rather than physical, sense.

Focus on Life

Taoism places great value in life. It does not focus on life after death, but on health and longevity by living a simple life and having inner peace. It is said that the human body is filled with spirits, gods, or demons. When people die, it is believed that they should do rituals to let the spirits guard the body. The spirits of the dead are routinely communicated with through the assistance of spirit-mediums.

Spirits and Funerals

Taoists have been doing funerals since Taoism began. Funerary practices in Taoism are varied in their details, drawing upon a number of traditions. Taoists are very serious when it comes to nourishing life and sending off the dead. The main purpose for a funeral is to have peace for the souls of the dead and to divide the dead from the living, so that the shadow of death will not linger with the people who are not dead. During funerals chanting Taoist’s scriptures is what they usually do. The “Book of Salvation,” the “Book of the Jade Emperor,” and the “Book of the Three Officials,” are what they mostly read at Taoist funerals. The thing they do in front of gods for confessing their sins and wanting forgiveness is called a litany. Usually during funerals when they do a litany, it is for, if the dead person is guilty of something bad, it will help them go to heaven or have a good reincarnation. Also during funerals, Taoists will light lanterns and candles to make the light shine over hell, so that the spirit of the deceased will leave the state of death. Once night has fallen into complete darkness, the soul of the dead cannot leave without the light. They have to put the lanterns in place according to the locations of the sun, moon, and constellations in the sky, so that the soul can go through the light. When someone dies, an oil lamp will be placed by the dead person’s feet to light a dark path for that person.

Chinese belief is that the world is full of invisible spirits. There are some that are humans who have died but are still able to help some people. They also believe that the world is full of nature spirits: plants, animals, rivers, stones, mountains, and stars. Shangdi, known as the ruler of the universe, was looked at as the great spiritual being. People worshipped spirits to keep their troubles away and to get blessed with health and wealth. Some Taoist believed that spirits extended nature, both the natural world and the inner world within people’s bodies.

God's Beautiful ANGER

www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2011/april/beautifulanger.html

Ambuyat is made from pouring hot water into ambulung or better known as sago. Sago is derived from a tree trunk, believe it or not. The trunk of a rumbia tree (scientific name, metroxylon), a family of palm trees such as coconuts, are used to make sago. The trees are cut down. Then they are stripped of fronds and other coverings before being cut into several pieces. These cut pieces are stripped of their hard bark. The pieces are then scraped or grated by machine onto a sluice.

The scrapings with the impurities are sifted out leaving the sago in a wooden trough filled with water that will be drained away once the sago has settled down. The dug out is then filled with water once more and the mixture is stirred thoroughly. After the water is drained off, it will reveal the sago as white solids or lumps. These sago lumps are then packed in basket-like tampin woven from the nipah leaves before being taken to the market. Nowadays, processing ambulung is less labourious as machines have taken over most of the work. (The following photos is a sequence of events required to turn a rumbia tree into ambuyat, just in case you need to explain it to someone, one of these days.)
