too bad this picture didn't come out; this was definitly one of the highlights of the set....
so beck busted out the acoustic guitar and while he played his whole band got up and sat down at this table on the right of the stage. they looked like they were sitting down for a good meal, just hanging out. his dancing guy brought glasses and stuff over on a tray.
so after a couple solo songs, beck got out a cellphone (saying how he felt like will farrell, pulling out a tiny cellphone), said he was gonna call some of his friends, and phoned one of the band members on the other side of the stage... he said what's up and what are you guys up to and you wanna get together and play some music? so the band got up and, with beck, they crowded around the turntables and percussion stuff and just started going off--beck scratching and them banging on stuff. uhm it was awesome.
then the band just sat back down at the table and, while beck started playing again, they played along... using forks and knives to beat on the table, dishes, glasses... oh man, it was rad.
on the screen behind beck (the blue that you're seeing) is an aerial shot of the band doing percussion on the table ware.
I hope that my work embodies the best of old and new. I have welcomed technical innovation, but bow to traditional techniques and conventions where they are necessary for the strength, integrity, and quality of a piece. The press have commented on the exuberance of my subject matter. The world truly is 杜y oyster・in the sense that I am fascinated by the beauty and complexity of nature. I revel in the challenge of large scale work and the opportunity to make extravagant and even opulent pieces, but there is always room for humour and even a touch of irony. I pay great attention to detail, often incorporating precious and semi-precious stones and finely chased figurative decoration but I strive overall for timelessness and boldness of concept and form.
Pentax-M SMC 28mm f/2.8. Taken with an Asahi Pentax K1000. Kodak HD 400 Film, probably expired. Taken underexposed and bumped up in post-processing. A more painting like effect when viewed larger.
I found these awesome Pyrex dishes at an estate sale. Do any of you Pyrex experts out there know what this pattern is called? I don't think they are the Pink Flamingo, as the pattern is more of a melon color (with gold trim). They seem to be milk glass. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

My mother was given these as a wedding gift in 1967, because a good hostess has to set out a little pot of good cigarettes and pretty ashtrays for visitors, doesn't she?

Another fun design using everyday shapes from the table. The overlapping is done so that it is unclear what is in front and what is behind.
