St Michael's at Penkridge is a very grand edifice, formerly collegiate, and mostly Perpendicular in deep red sandstone. Both nave and chancel are flanked by aisles, making the interior very spacious and crammed with interesting features. In fact much of the structure within is earlier than the seemingly uniform late medieval exterior would suggest, with parts dating back to the 1220s.
The most remarkable features here are the wonderful collection of monuments in the chancel which are truly impressive! Three magnificent tombs all with alabaster effigies to three generations of the Littleton family, spanning the Tudor period, including one threesome and a double decker (2 couples arranged as if on bunk-beds, the uppermost wife being practically invisible). There are also two late 15th century incised slabs, one under a carpet in the vestry, and another in the south aisle recess (alas largely obscured by candles), with a later 16th century family group on the north chancel aisle wall. There is some old woodwork, with several foliate misericords at the east end and two more incorporated into the stalls. The stained glass generally is nothing exciting but the nave roof was rather special, mostly Victorian but apparently incorporating medieval angels.
I'm not entirely sure what normal opening arrangements are here, but the very friendly parishoners I spoke to suggested that there's some limited access most weekdays.
They had tablets to rent that would tell you about what you were looking at. I wasn’t interested, but the girls really wanted to get them. I’m glad we did. I imagine the girls would have gotten bored quickly without them. With the tablets, they enjoyed learning all about New York and the landmarks we were looking at from above.

You can purchase a small wooden tablet from the shrine and write your wish on it. The priests burn your tablet on a special day to ensure your wish comes true.
If you don't mind the Comic Sans MS, there's an interesting article here.

My MIL has a tablet that she totes back and forth, but because it's not a standard size (like an iPad) it's hard to find a case to protect it. Unless, of course, you know a knitter. (The clasp is half-sewn-on, waiting until the tablet is in the sleeve to determine optimal placement.)
For those that remember, the box for the XO Tablet is just as confusing for adults to open as the XO Laptop itself.
