Modern day inkwell for a fountain pen. This is a new model from pen manufacturer TWSBI of Taiwan. Heavy and beautifully polished aluminum caps atop heavy glass.

A nice pen does not guarantee nice writing, but it does make it more enjoyable.

7 July 2018

I have a Timbuk2 Metro Mini Messenger that I am using to carry sketching supplies such as a small Moleskine Sketchbook, a Cotman Watercolor Pocket set, waterbrush, fountain pen and mechanical pencil. Also my personal items - wallet, tissue, lotion, smart phone, ....

Materials: Moleskine sketchbook, watercolor, TWSBI fountain pen filled with Noodlers' Lexington Ink.

**update: Better picture now, shot with the X100 instead of my cell phone. Filled it with Diamine Majestic Blue. The notepad is from Rhodia.

Got a new fountain pen, the amazing TWSBI 540 to replace my good old Parker Vector that is totally worn out and damaged after 15 years.

We are in a digital age now, but I still prefer 'analog' handwriting for notes and stuff; I am capable of blindtyping faster than 520cpm on a computer keyboard though.

Since the TWSBI 540 is completely translucent (a 'demonstrator' design model), you can see the ink move in the reservoir and all of the mechanics built inside.

The pen can also be taken completely apart, so it is easy to clean.

Very nice!

I use fountain pens because it forces me to relax, concentrate and write slower, almost to a therapeutic level. It dramatically improves my handwriting.

A ballpoint, would result in hieroglyphics and other undecipherable scribbles..

"This is my pen. There are many like it, but this one is mine." :-)

Stuff which I have in my bag right now. Well, not right now, obviously, because I took it out to take a picture of it. Stuff which I had in my bag before I took it out.

Top (L-R):

* Squared medium Moleskine (my journal) with red and black Slider XB ballpoints at the top, then (L-R) a Wacom iPad stylus, an OHTO ProMecha ballpoint, a LensPen (which is not a pen at all but used to clean camera lenses), a TWSBI fountain pen with an EF nib, and a uni Kuru Toga rotating mechanical pencil.

* Another TWSBI fountain pen with a B nib (and purple ink)

* a bottle of diet coke that I should apparently give to "Charlotte"

* an ancient iPad 1, on which I am typing this, on which is a small pack of plasters, a card reader, a 3G stick, some tissues and a memory stick

* the battered leather messenger bag that all this was in. It's quite a nice bag though. From Scaramanga.

Bottom (L-R):

* 3 rolls of B&W 35mm film - 2x Kentmere 400, 1x Fomapan 400

* a charger & spare battery for my e-cigarette

* some toothpicks

* 4x AA batteries taped together and one 4LR44 battery, for cameras

* a Murakami novel with an iPhone 5 cable on it

Note how the ink (Iroshizuku Kon-Peki) turns from blue to purple to red.

It has been a while since I last picked one from the Everyday Matters list. But voilà. Draw a favourite tool (number 16). And as you all have recognized of course, it's the TWSBI VAC 20A.

I should of course have done it in ink but I had my pencils in front of me.

Ink is Blackstone Barrier Reef Blue in the Vac 20A Ink Bottle (Blue)

The Vac700, a newly released pen from TWSBI. If it's anywhere close to the quality of the TWSBI 540, it too will be one of the best fountain pen values around.
