Each year since 2012 I post a final image for the year and attempt to sum up the year with varying amounts of detail. So here we are - the last day of 2024 and i'm a little lost for words.
It feels like yesterday writing my annual life update at this time last year. To be honest I haven't been looking forward to writing this year's post. It's been a really hard year on so many levels. Starting the year still coming to terms with the loss of my mother at the end of 2023, then losing my father-in-law in April and then losing our 19 year old furball is just part of the narative that defined this year. It felt like a year of survival and I will never really understand how the year disappeared so quickly.
So I'm not going to bore anyone with the details. For the most part my images on Flickr are just for artistic enjoyment and I don't expect anyone to read between the images.
Wishing everyone a happy and safe new year.
- Thanks to everyone who looked at my picture, favors and have commented.

I found this fascinating micro moth in the bathroom - smaller than my thumbnail, close inspection reveals the wonderful and unusual "plumed" wing structure
Wonder involves the unexpected, those inexplicable, spontaneous feelings that inspire our thoughts and actions.

Another shot from my day of exploring the Portage/Girdwood area. This was taken on the bridge crossing Twenty mile river.
There are a total of 5 photos. 3 stitched on the top and 2 stitched on the bottom. Then I stitched the top to the bottom. Plus I had to straighten out all the distortion. Now I have a huge headache
I was feeling good this morning so headed out to Hayfield for a walk over the hills in the spring sunshine. A bit chilly in the wind but great to be out in the fresh air.
The Hauptwache seen from the rooftop terrasse of the Galeria - the one that the RAF set on fire in '68, opening a series attacks that left dozens of death and wounded in its wake. So much for the "good old times".

When we finished talking about pinhole photography with one of the guards, I asked her if there were a lot of people inside the museum, as it looked to me like there's a huge crowd. She told me, not at all: it's only twenty thousand per day. I said, wow, that's a lot for me! Smiling gently, she explained to me that usually the limit is at forty, so it's two times less...

Moraine Lake. This is nicknamed the "Twenty Dollar View" because it appeared on the back of the Canadian $20 bill for many years.
I could hear Black Cockatoos squawking in the trees behind me as I watched the sun rise, hoping they would fly into my shot. As the best light began to fade, they finally launched skyward, but didn't fly straight overhead as I'd hoped.
That's the total weight of the recycled paper that sculptor Jae Ko used to create her exhibition, "Force of Nature."
Memorable night on September 11, 2018. I was waiting on the banks of Twenty mile river for the Northern lights to appear. When suddenly STEVE appeared over the mountains. It slowly snaked its way across the sky until it reached the horizon.
While my office was being remodeled, we moved temporarily up to the 22nd Floor of the same building. It was a new vantage point and this is the start of a new album.
That's me in the window, btw.
Magnificent Monday to you.
Conrail 21024, an N7B caboose built in 1963 for New York Central basks in the morning sunlight in Tyrone, PA. 20 years ago on June 1, 1999, Conrail was divided between CSX and NS and would become just a memory.
Unique view in the San Diego Convention Centre. My wife suggested to turn the picture that way. Pays off to listen to her :)

Diversa interpretazione del tema, l'ho immaginato più come un mix di colori che come un tinta unita!

Three of the squadron's ships underway in the Solomon Islands, 15 August 1943. The ships are (from front to rear): O'Bannon (DD-450), Chevalier (DD-451) and Taylor (DD-468). Photographed from Nicholas (DD-449), while the ships were on route to the landings at Vella Lavella, which took place on the same day.
Chilly start in the village this morning. Windscreen totally iced over so opted for a local spot so I could walk.

17, 18, 19, 20 and today is 21
This is my fifth year doing the birthday self portrait and I really want to keep doing it forever and ever. Watching myself grow physically, emotionally, mentally, and creatively is extremely intriguing and at times mind blowing. Sometimes I feel so far away from my seventeen year old self, but this little project makes me feel a little bit closer to her, like I still care about the same things and worry over them too.
I just want to thank everyone for another beautiful year of support, inspiration, love, and kindness. The flickr community has literally changed my life and made me who I am meant to be. Without your love I would never have grown into who I am today. I love you all very much, thank you for everything.
