TV Guide cover

One of the few times in history when Saturday night was THE night to stay home and watch television.

I remember the Mary Tyler Moore Show was "Must See" t.v. in our family, and the rest of the CBS lineup was strong enough that nobody cared if we were home on a Saturday night!

November 24, 1984. Jane Curtin and Susan Saint James of CBS's "Kate & Allie."

The January 25 - January 31, 1964 issue of TV Guide Magazine featured a special insert entitled "America's Long Vigil". It described the period from Nov. 22 to Nov. 25, 1963, when US President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. The article goes into great detail in describing the television coverage of the historic events of that weekend, and makes for a fascinating read.

August 6, 1988. Susan Lucci of ABC's "All My Children"; Peter Barton and Lauralee Bell of CBS's "The Young and the Restless"; Drake Hogestyn of NBC's "Days of Our Lives"; Tristan Rogers of ABC's "General Hospital."

TV Guide entered the 1970's with this issue with predictions of what was to come that decade, most of these did happen - either during the 70's or not long after...Cable TV will take on a bigger role but not yet reach its full potential, larger more powerful satellites will be used by networks to distribute programs to stations and someday directly to homes, Two-way Picturephone TV, Home Video Players would become available and later in the 70's affordable Video Recorders.

February 29, 1992. Corey Carrier of ABC's "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles."

June 13, 1998. Jensen Ackles of NBC's "Days of Our Lives"; Laura Wright of CBS's "Guiding Light"; Ingo Rademacher of ABC's "General Hospital"; Phil Hartman.
