Finally to my favorite part of the vacation - Big Island of Hawaii. This turtle was sunning on our beach at the resort. Coincidentally, so was I.

Even though the red eared slider spends the larger part of its day in the water, it still likes to climb out and bask under the sun-like glow of the heat lamp.
When I first looked at this on my camera, I thought I had a rare find. I didn't see the actual head and thought that little knob on the right was it's head. So I saw a brown turtle with a weird head. Apparently he was mud wrestling. Scotia Barrens, Centre County, PA.
Turtles are at high risk of being killed by cars when crossing roads. When you see one, consider stopping and seeing it safely to the other side--it only takes a few minutes and no effort.
