The Brunkeberg Tunnel in Norrmalm, Stockholm, is a 231-metre-long passageway for pedestrians through the esker Brunkebergsåsen. The tunnel was inaugurated in 1886 by King Oscar II.
I passed this tunnel for months when I cycled past almost daily, but never had the time to explore where it went when I was a teenager. Then one day I did have some spare time and found that whilst it didn't save any time on my journey, it took me on much quieter roads for a while.
As seen on a windy & wet day.

The tailrace tunnel at Niagara Falls. From the power station above the falls you take an elevator down 170 feet which opens into the tailrace tunnel. It is 2,200 feet in length and at the end is the new observation platform at the foot of the falls.
The tunnel was built by hand in 1901-1904. The dingy lighting, the old brick and weeping water all work to create a fascinating atmosphere.

Right in the gut of rugged Rock Creek Canyon on Rio Grande’s Craig Branch, an eastbound coal train exits Tunnel 45 between Crater and Volcano, Colorado, on September 8, 1992. Four Tunnel Motors are up front, with two more as a swing helper in the middle of the train, with a symbol of AINNC (Axial mine to Nixon in Colorado Springs).
