This tui, which appears to have a dead left eye (possibly a cataract), has taken up residence in the garden all summer, first getting nectar and insects from the bottlebrush tree and lately from the flax/harakeke flowers.
ES-SAG, a 2012 Airbus A320-214 of TUI Airways (leased from SmartLynx Estonia), departing Manchester airport (MAN) for Mahon (MAH). Sunday 10th September 2023.
HISTORY

This aircraft was delivered to Etihad Airways as A6-EIR in December 2012. It was withdrawn from use after its last flight, from Bahrain to Abu Dhabi on 29th August 2021. It was in storage at AUH until April 2022, when it was ferried to Nottingham (EMA). It was acquired by AerCap the following month (May '22), and reregistered as VP-CDL. Over summer 2022 it was stored at various airports, including EMA, BCM, and TLL. In August 2022, SmartLynx Estonia bought the aircraft and reregistered it ES-SAG. Since being acquired by the leasing company, the aircraft has been leased to a variety of airlines, including: Air Peace (Aug 2022 - Apr '23), TUI Airways (May - October 2023), and IndiGo (Nov. 2023 onwards).
These tui all seemed to be paying court to a large male (far left bird) who was puffed up and singing and chortling and clinking and clonking and trilling and rasping (as only Tui can do!) to keep their attention. Taken mid July with spring just around the corner and on the first fine sunny day in weeks. No wonder they were celebrating!
