Photographing these "ice caves" is physically demanding, technically challenging, and sometimes dangerous. Some of the caves I've explored extended for thousands of feet into total darkness. The resulting images are often quite surreal in these ephemeral natural wonders.

This was on the day I visited the Park at Gleisdreieck, which is an amazing place and as I have probably said before, it's an absolute treasure trove of photo opportunities everywhere you look in every genre you can imagine! As I let slip there, this wasn't at midnight but with the Aperture set higher for sharpness and the Shutter Speed to 1/500 this sufficiently darkened the image and with the additional WB "Incandescent" gave a beautiful nighttime cinematic feel.

I used the Nikkor 55-200mm VR1 for this shit with the VR activated. I hope you like it!

So that's Monday gone for today, I hope everyone is well, and so as always, thank you! :)

A male Downy Woodpecker (Picoides pubescens) discovered a treasure trove of nutrients likely stored by another bird in a cavity in the rough bark of the aspen poplar in the woods east of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

On an old computer destined to be junked, I have found a treasure trove of forgotten photos, this one amng them. I have granted a stay of execution while I examine the contents of the hard drive.

September 3pm hour. A mesmerizing treasure trove of golden sunshine sparkles appeared in the water as I was walking around Ventura Harbor. Then in the fresh ocean breeze, along came a stand-up paddleboarder, unencumbered and uncluttered. After swirling through the sparkles like a lightweight nomad, he turns and looks back. I wonder if he saw the same thing I did. Anyway, it looks like he was freely enjoying the afternoon and I hope he goes home happy.

To be here was such a treat. I wanted a picture with boats for my 'Hours' picture because I was born in September in the 3pm hour on what is now 'International Talk Like A Pirate Day', so it worked out well. Arrr, Matey!

September is so lovely and it will transition into Fall before we know it. As Summer fades, it leaves its door open just a little...

Thank you again for your patience, my Flickr friends. I'm still off and on for awhile longer.

I recently had the opportunity to photograph an abandoned funeral home in Cleveland's inner city. This is one of my favorite shots from that day. As the man once said, "I ain't scared of no ghosts!"

A treasure trove of photo opportunities: the (caution: tongue-twister) Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord, the site of a former smelting works and a cultural heritage gem.

Year after year I watch my garden go through the metamorphosis of the seasons. Some flowers with delicate, fragile stems actually are some of the strongest survivors of the elements. I really liked how the various stages of these seed heads was present. Here's to nature and photography!

James, our electrician (in the "electric" blue jumpsuit :-D), is standing on the dock, in the rain, discussing lighting for our reflected vacation log house. I'm across the lake, getting wet, while trying to capture the unexpected "riches" of this normally rather mundane event.

Union Pacific has often stored surplus locomotives around Salt Lake City, Utah. One of the more common locations was in South Yard, between 3rd North and 2nd South along 5th West in the capital city. On a hazy Dec. 18, 1976 afternoon, we see a trove of at least ten SD24s, a GP20, and even a GTEL cab unit waiting out an uncertain future. Most if them never saw service again.

This Cedar Waxwing found a treasure trove of Rosehips and procured quite a few before moving on from Willow Pond. There is a small park centred on that water body in Airdrie, Alberta, Canada. The red tips on the wing feathers of a mature Cedar Waxwing are wax-like growths coloured by a carotenoid pigment that is found in red fruits. As the birds age, both the number and size of the tips increases. It appears that the tips serve as signals of fitness that come into play during mate selection.

A string of pearls sat on top of a silvered card with a sea shell as a prop. A gold reflector held to the left hand side helped the windowlight light the image.

This is the Elvis Chapel at the Superstition Mountain Lost Dutchman Museum in Apache Junction.

www.pinal.gov/faq.aspx?TID=134

The Superstition Mountain area has long been of interest to filmmakers, with its dramatic views and romantic history. Movie stars such as Glenn Ford, Elvis Presley, John Wayne, and Tom Mix starred in films set in our area. Elvis Memorial Chapel is a movie prop that was built for the 1969 Elvis Presley western Charro!, which was the only movie Elvis made in which he did not sing, but played a strictly dramatic role. During the moving shoot, a specially-made steeple was constructed and put on the chapel so that it could be blown off during an explosion central to the movie's plot

The Elvis Memorial Chapel is a movie prop from the 1969 Elvis Presley film “Charro!” that survived two fires and was relocated to the Superstition Mountain Museum where it stands to this day.

Originally part of the Apacheland Movie Ranch, it is the sole surviving structure from that iconic Western filming location.

Now serving as a wedding chapel, it stands as a testament to preservation efforts and a unique connection to Elvis’ only non-singing acting role.

The desert stretches before you—vast, golden, and silent except for the whisper of wind against stone. Towering peaks rise sharply from the earth, their rugged faces glowing in the Arizona sun, each contour etched with stories of fortune and fate. These are the Superstition Mountains, a landscape steeped in legend, where the line between myth and reality fades into the dust.

Tucked against this backdrop lies the Superstition Mountain Lost Dutchman Museum, a treasure trove of the region’s mysteries. Within its walls, echoes of prospectors, pioneers, and restless spirits come to life through artifacts, exhibits, and tales passed down through generations.

Founded in 1980 by the Superstition Mountain Historical Society, the museum was born from the dreams of “Dutch hunters”—enthusiasts obsessed with the legendary Lost Dutchman Mine. These folks weren’t just casual treasure seekers; they were dedicated to preserving the lore and artifacts of the region, turning their fascination into a cultural institution.

I took a couple of steps back and saw what appeared like a pile of copper pennies..I mean the old lovely big copper pennies (not the fiddly little things around today ) In fact are pennies still currency these day ? We have quite a collection of old coins oddly enough because both Jonathan and I used to collect them..Still miss threepenny bits or a shiny sixpence and felt rich if I had half a crown...aw what have they done to our old currency :(

The forests of Western North Carolina hold a treasure trove of sights, sounds, aromas, all laid out before any who bother to take a moment to look. This waterfall is only a mere 12 feet tall, and through most of the year the foliage covers its waters, through most of the year it runs gently… During the late fall and early spring though, it opens up, then you wait for the rain. The once gentle fall becomes something more, eye catching, magical, a sight to behold, a sight worth stopping for. Take your time, and really give this lovely little curtain of water deep in the forest more than a glance, allow yourself to become entranced. Nature lays itself bare before us, all we have to do is look.
