The last of the remaining tribeswomen with these magnificent tattoos drawn on their face.
There are many stories about the origin of Chin tattoos, one of that is these tribes first began to ink their faces as a way of disfiguring their beauty, they had no way but to destroy their beauty make themselves unattractive and, in doing so, avoid being kidnapped or chosen as concubines by the Burmese kings.
A second legend states that they were tattooed distinctively to allow for identification with their tribe of origin in the event that they were kidnapped by another tribe.
Another reason is they believed a facial tattoo makes them beautiful, more attractive and would receive attention from most of the young men.
The process of the facial tattooing is extremely painful especially on the tender eyelid areas and dangerous as some even died of infection. it has been outlawed since 1960s.

(LONG NECK TRIBE)
C H I A N G M A I, T H A I L A N D
Most people know of the Karen people from television documentaries, magazines and encyclopedias as the "long-neck" or "giraffe" tribe. But the women who wear these brass rings on their neck belong to a sub-group of the Karen known as the Padaung. There are other sub-groups who do not and never have practiced this custom. A further myth is that these rings act to elongate the wearer's neck. Any chiropractor or orthopedic surgeon will tell you that this would lead to paralysis or death. In fact the appearance of a longer neck is a visual illusion. The weight of the rings pushes down the collar bone, as well as the upper ribs, to such an angle that the collar bone actually appears to be a part of the neck!

Black & White portrait of an old man of the Mursi tribe in Ethiopia. His name is Gumunio Kagulo, he lives in the Mursi village Bidiro, and is one of the most respected elders in his village. Like all Mursi people he doesn't know exactly his age, but he is a member of the age set "bari", which usually describes all Mursi people above 50 or 60 years.

The art of Daraa Tribes is a fusion of Saharan blues music with ancestral legacies representing 5 different ethnic groups in the Daraa River Valley of Southeast Morocco. Their art is both a way of paying homage to the generations of ancestral musicians who preceded them and their own way of expressing themselves but growing up in a multicultural and multilingual society.
Turkana woman.
Turkana tribe is the second largest pastoral community in Kenya. This nomadic community moved to Kenya from Karamojong in eastern Uganda. The Turkana tribe occupies the semi Desert Turkana District in the Rift valley province of Kenya. Like the Masai and tribes, Turkana people keeps herds of cattle, goats and camel . Livestock is a very important part of the Turkana people. Their animals are the main source of income and food. However, recurring drought in Turkana district adversely affect the nomadic livelihood.
Like the Masai and Samburu, the Turkana people are very colorful. Turkana people adorn themselves with colorful necklace and bracelets. Their decorations are made of red, yellow and brown colored beads. Cattle's rustling is common in Turkana district and round its border with Uganda, Sudan and Ethiopia. Tribes inhabiting this area are often involved in tribal fights for livestock and water. Cattle's rustling has been a common phenomenon for many decades and appears to be a sort of cultural game for the nomadic communities living in parts of the Rift valley and its surroundings. With the proliferation of small arms, cattle's rustling has become more dangerous and the Kenyan government has intervened in solving the problem.
With a population population of about 250,000 people, the Nilotic language speaking Turkana people have successfully maintained their tradition compared to other tribes in Kenya. Turkana men cover their head with mud, which is then painted blue and decorated with ostrich and other feathers. The main garment for the Turkana people is a woolen blanket. The type of attire worn by a woman is determined by her marital status. Body tattooing was traditionally used to indicate achievement in the community. Men or warriors who killed enemies were tattooed to indicate what they have done for the community. Most of people in Turkana tribe adhere to traditional beliefs while 5 to 15% are Christians.
