Traitor Claimer, FN-2199, TR-8R, whatever... In my mind, his name will always be Competent Trooper!
This scene was pure eye candy. It would've been nice if the Stormtrooper had more lines to exchange with Finn as they fought, but at least the end of the fight was very satisfactory!

Riot Baton made from lego hose/gun piece with a long technic peg piece cut in half and glued onto the nozel. Only one side is painted.

I put off uploading this shot for a long time because I never felt satisfied with it. My friend Mark and Taka said it looked alright so I guess that was good enough.
It was refreshing to see competent and lethal Stormtroopers in a Star Wars movie, wasn't it? A lot of people uploaded their version of FN-2199 whipping out his electified tonfa to the internet because it was such a cool moment. In my opinion, however, what was more badass than just spinning a baton around was when he abandoned his shield and perfectly functional gun, throwing them to either side. A normal Stormtrooper doesn't just choose to make a killing personal by electing hand-to-hand combat. I haven't seen anyone make this moment before so I was hoping to be the first.
First figure of 2016!
This is the second figure in my series in which I am making a villain from each episode. The others in the series are:
Episode II: Attack of the Clones - Jango Fett
I wanted to make a First Order Stormtrooper since I saw the film opening week, and only got around to it now. It was originally planned to be a simple trooper, but upon my good friend Sander's suggestion, I made TR-8R, a character who has been very popular online lately.
The full story behind this traitor-hating trooper has been revealed on starwars.com - he is/was a member of Finn's squad and is FN-2199, AKA 'Nines', who is mentioned in the novel 'Before the Awakening' by Greg Rucka.
Anyways, to the figure now, all of the details on the body were sculpted with ProCreate/made from scratch with styrene, with exception of the helmet, which is a standard TLG helmet which had details added and the white repainted to match the armour. The traitor-killer (ie. the Z6 Riot Baton) was made using styrene and a Brickarms Halo SMG.
Also, painting and photographing flat white figures is a pain in the ass.

Messing around with some Photoshop. I'm still having trouble transitioning the backdrop to the image I used, but I'll get it to work eventually.
In hype of the movie, I made this quite a while ago, but never quite finished painting till a few days ago. I spent a lot of time waiting on packages to arrive to make this photo, like the rocks in the background. Went for a Takodana scene, trying to bring out the white against the dark background ~
This figure was quite a process to make, but I wanted to incorporate as many details as possible, down to the strips that connect the armor pieces. The armor was sculpted with ProCreate with details added to a LEGO helmet. The gun is made by Brickarms with an added stock. The shield was made from an old gift card, while the baton was made from some spare pieces and sculpted details added.
I'll be resculpting this set for casting purposes, let me know how you'd feel about a casted version of one of these guys!
This was a great project and with it finished, I can proceed to make the rest of the EP7 figs. So as always, expect more, and I'd love to hear your thoughts!

JoeDios is sometimes still active, and one of the members put up a February crossover challenge contest. I wanted to make an extended baton but haven't had the time. And I'm not usually big on crossovers (why would a GIJoe have a lightsaber?!), but this one just came together. #TR8R

FN-2199, or TR-8R, really stood out for most fans. After seeing the Force Awakens again I had to recreate him in all his glory. Hope you like it!

With the release of the new movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, I joined up with a few Cosplayers and photographers. It was a chilly night, but we had fun exploring downtown. Many people were honking and taking selfies with the models.
