I think I've commented elsewhere that, like many British people of a certain age, Tooting Broadway station will always remind me of the 1970s comedy show, "Citizen Smith" starring Robert Lindsay as a would-be Marxist revolutionary living in Tooting.

We interrupt our walk around Henley Lake in Masterton with a temporary change of subject...
Last Friday evening, I took 19 month old Grace for a walk in her pushchair. As we approached nearby Trentham Station, an electric Suburban Unit pulled in.
I told Grace to wave to the Driver (as you do when you're walking your young Grand Blessing!), and lo and behold: not only did the Driver wave back, but she gave Grace a series of very gentle little Toot, Toot, Toots on the air horns! (I've actually never heard such gentle little "toots"; normally, the horn on these Units are just about loud enough to rupture an ear drum!).
So way to go, Trans Metro; you made a little girl very, very happy!
When we got home, I asked Grace to tell Grandma what the train had "said" at the station, and she pumped the air with an open hand, proudly proclaimed "Toot, Toot, Toot", and shrieked with glee!
(The photo above captured the Unit on its return trip to Wellington...).
