Week 43/52, 2016
This week’s theme for my 52 project is “Tools of the Trade.” One of my other hobbies is making espresso drinks, which I do almost every day. These are a couple of the items I use to make espresso. I grind coffee into the portafilter shown on the right and then tamp it down using the tamper on the left. Although the items are sitting on an orange towel, I decided it worked better in B&W.

Excerpt from the plaque:
Pileated Woodpecker
Pileated woodpeckers drill into dead trees searching for carpenter ants, which they extract from the wood with their barbed tongues. These birds hammer hard, sometimes pounding so deep that small trees break in two. To manage the stress, the strong, elastic beak is backed by dense, spongy bone. Curiously, the back of the tongue wraps around the skull. Some scientists think it may act as an additional shock absorber.
Giant Anteater
The long, nozzle-shaped snout of a giant anteater is a streamlined tool for raiding anthills and termite mounds.
The toothless jaws support a long, sticky tongue that can extend nearly two feet (61 cm) beyond the tip of the snout to pick up insects. By reaching forward with its head and tongue, the anteater can feed while standing back from a nest and avoid being heavily bitten or stung.

Each specialty has its own special tools, which must have been conceived and made out of experience?
Bettering the tools all the time for the job?
Here, two specialists, Willem Vermandere and his woodcuts and Vincent Flachet, a luthier...
We had the honour to visit their workplace.
With love to you and thank you for ALL your faves and comments, M, (* _ *)

Inside one of a number of buildings alongside the mill, a workshop full of pre-industrial tools. Today the mill is under renovation by a small group of dedicated men. School parties visit the mill and learn about the history of the place.
From My Blog
Kind of funny story with this one... The kid was very enthralled with me taking pictures in the park and so I turned around and pointed at my camera and then at him and his parents were extremely happy so I knew they wouldn't mind me taking a picture so I took one, showed it to them on the LCD, and they walked off.
When I got home I loaded this up and noticed that he had wet himself and his pants were almost totally soaked. I had to crop out a large amount of the photo to keep it clean here as well as extend his shirt with the clone tool.

Another shot from the evening with Phill, I took one of the first light painting tools I made, it's a bit like a calligraffy writer but with a longer handle, so more like a paintbrush. I faffed around phill with it and finished with Ryu's V2 torch and s poly tube with Quality Street Orange Gel. Just for fun!

Those pesky blocks, sticking together like crazy.
Nothing seems to be able to part these blocks! Time for the power tools!
