Piorunów (Thunderbolts) Palace
A palace - a manor house, located in central Poland, near the city of Łódź (about 20 km). A manor house from around the 1920s. Currently restored, it serves as a hotel with a spa and wellness area.
... very very frightening me! Alas, no Galileo this time around, but we do have half the world's airworthy fleet of Il-62 freighters to compensate. So, while the townspeople of Zagreb will not agree with me on this, the evening's severe thunderstorm - shower, hail, microburst, the works - had nevertheless made for a pleasant night of spotting at Zagreb Airport (ZAG/LDZA)!
Another image from the powerful storm we had a couple of weeks ago. Again taken from the safety of indoors from my laundry window!
I say safety, but apparently, in the same storm, someone in South Australia did get electrocuted inside their home when they flipped a light switch right at the moment of a lightning flash!
The brown tinge of smoke can be seen lower right where a local grassfire had been started by a strike. I believe there were as many as 40 to 50 grassfires in the south of our state that night.
Thunderbolt is the name, but you can see the flash only ;-)
In the last weeks are enough chances to capture flashes. So I tried it many times without so spectacular flashes like that one.
This capture was taken through a roof-light and it has rained a lot. If you have a close distance between the lens and the window, it is not so disturbing as expected.
In this try I also used the fish-eye lens to get more of the sky and the flashes. A wide-angle are not wide enough. Or you need to increase the distance between lens and window. Then the quality should be a critical issue if it is raining.
Hopefully you enjoy it.

A shot of a Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II I took at an airshow in 2019. With the airshows having been grounded last year, I am looking forward to seeing some action again this summer.
It was a beautiful night out there - you could feel the tension of the thunderstorm building while waiting for the lightning to happen at the right moment...

We had some of the closest, most spectacular and most frequent lightning I have ever seen. With the lightning hitting the other side of the road from us, this was just another close shave on this amazing chase day in Nebraska.

Multiple lightning flashes behind the breakwater as the thunderstorm approaches Herttoniemi from the sea.
The P-47 Thunderbolt played a critical role at Duxford Airfield during World War II, serving with the 78th Fighter Group of the U.S. Eighth Air Force. Initially deployed in 1943, these aircraft conducted bomber escort missions, protecting Allied heavy aircraft during raids deep into enemy territory. As the war progressed, the Thunderbolts transitioned to ground-attack roles, using their robust airframes and heavy firepower to attack enemy tanks, trains, and infrastructure in support of advancing Allied forces. Renowned for their durability and versatility, the P-47s at Duxford contributed significantly to the air campaign over Europe.
Toh Guan, Singapore
I don't always post processed photos right after I shoot them, but I really can't help but share this multiple-exposure, time-blended composite photo of the lightning storm over Toh Guan (actually it was technically over Jurong Island in the south according to the weather radar).
Initially I wanted to head out to shoot the sunset after work, but had to put off my plans due to the heavy monsoon rain, so I headed back home instead. While having dinner, I noticed an intense lightning storm that was taking place around my area. Since I've shot the sunset over Toh Guan from the nearby Bukit Batok Skyline, I thought I'd give lightning photography a try.
Really glad that I did, because not only was the sky clear enough for the lightning to be captured on camera (usually the clouds tend to obscure the lightning, resulting in the rainclouds being lit up instead), the storm lasted for a good hour and stretched across the sky with multiple bolts for this composite to be a success.
I'll post the shots that I used for this blended photo, but here are some processing details for now: 31-shot blend over a period of about an hour, shot with a Nikon D850 and a Sigma 12-24mm Art lens, cloned away the ceiling and lens flare in the frame and cropped down to size.
