It was pouring down relentless sheets of rain and a small group of band-tails landed in the buckeye. As the rain got even harder several of these native birds began to raise and open their wings fully to take in the opportunity for a complete bath....it was a truly remarkable sight to see this behavior in a complete downpour up in the trees on the greyest of winter days
many thanks for stopping by to visit and share....risa
Curlew - Numenius Arquata
They are one of the most ancient lineages of scolopacid waders, together with the godwits which look similar but have straight bills.
Curlews feed on mud or very soft ground, searching for worms and other invertebrates with their long bills. They will also take crabs and similar items.
Curlews enjoy a worldwide distribution. Most species show strong migratory habits and consequently one or more species can be encountered at different times of the year in Europe, Ireland, Britain, Iberia, Iceland, Africa, Southeast Asia, Siberia, North America, South America and Australasia.
The distribution of curlews has altered considerably in the past hundred years as a result of changing agricultural practices. Reclamation and drainage of marshy fields and moorland, and afforestation of the latter, have led to local decreases, while conversion of forest to grassland in some parts of Scandinavia has led to increases there.

THEY may be widespread and rather nondescript, streaked brown bird, but I have a real affection for them, as a ground-dwelling species, it is quite approachable with care. Feeds on invertebrates as seen, a bit harder in the capture in the winter when they often form loose flocks.

"Don't ask me
What you know is true
Don't have to tell you
I love your precious heart
I was standing
You were there
Two worlds collided
And they could never tear us apart
We could live
For a thousand years
But if I hurt you
I'd make wine from your tears
I told you
That we could fly
'Cause we all have wings
But some of us don't know why
I was standing
You were there
Two worlds collided
And they could never, ever tear us apart
I (Don't ask me)
I was standing (You know it's true)
Mm, you were there (Worlds collided)
Two worlds collided (We're shining through)
And they could never tear us apart
You (Don't ask me)
You were standing (You know it's true)
I was there (Worlds collided)
Two worlds collided (We're shining through)
And they could never tear us apart
I was standing
You were there"
They say swearing is due to limited vocabulary.
I know thousands of words, but I still prefer “FK OFF” to “go away”.

Silver 925 consists of 92.5% genuine silver(Ag). The other 7.5% will be alloy to help prevent tarnishing. Typically copper(Cu) is used, although zinc(Zn), platinum(Pt) or geranium(Ge) are also common.

Welcome spring, let your tepid breath move the still young, fresh green leaves.
Open the stalls of the cows and let hem out along with their young calves, open the buds of the flowers and spread the softly sweet fragance of the blossoms.
Let us enjoy the most beautiful season of the year called spring........
They say that Orange combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow. It is associated with joy, sunshine, and the tropics. Orange represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation.
If true or not it doesn't matter because all of this is what I wish to you, dear Flickr friends, in the beginning of one more week, a very special week in some parts of the world ;)

“They say a good love is one that sits you down, gives you a drink of water, and pats you on top of the head. But I say a good love is one that casts you into the wind, sets you ablaze, makes you burn through the skies and ignite the night like a phoenix; the kind that cuts you loose like a wildfire and you can't stop running simply because you keep on burning everything that you touch! I say that's a good love; one that burns and flies, and you run with it!”

Song: Mercy, Mercy, Me (The Ecology)
Woah, ah, mercy, mercy me
Ah, things ain't what they used to be (ain't what they used to be)
Where did all the blue skies go?
Poison is the wind that blows
From the north and south and east
Woah mercy, mercy me, yeah
Ah, things ain't what they used to be (ain't what they used to be)
Oil wasted on the ocean and upon our seas
Fish full of mercury
Oh Jesus, yeah, mercy, mercy me, ah
Ah, things ain't what they used to be (ain't what they used to be)
Radiation underground and in the sky
Animals and birds who live nearby are dying
Hey, mercy, mercy me, oh
Hey, things ain't what they used to be
What about this overcrowded land?
How much more abuse from man can she stand?
Oh, na, na, na
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Hey, ooh, woo

They may have a bit of an ice coating on this morning but what a seat this tree family has to welcome in each new day! From High Point State Park, the appropriately named highest spot in New Jersey, 1 January 2020, about 5 1/2 minutes after sunrise. A couple of days before I took this there was a storm that left about a 3/4 inch ice coating on all the trees but not the roads, made for an interesting look!
and they are not to blame ...
Yesterday was Earth Overshoot Day (EOD), the calculated illustrative calendar date on which humanity’s resource consumption for the year exceeds Earth’s capacity to regenerate those resources that year. (1987= 19th of December)
Time to reconsider our consumption habits !

Wheatears back on the moors. I think these are my favourite upland passerines (although Whichat run them close, but they're not here yet)
They say hummingbirds are feathered jewels and this female looked like an emerald glistening in the bright afternoon sun.
They are here, not a lot of time to get out looking. My one hope is my little grandaughter gets her wish to see one this year, finally one that has taken interest and she will be getting a camera for Christmas..
