It was pouring down relentless sheets of rain and a small group of band-tails landed in the buckeye. As the rain got even harder several of these native birds began to raise and open their wings fully to take in the opportunity for a complete bath....it was a truly remarkable sight to see this behavior in a complete downpour up in the trees on the greyest of winter days

many thanks for stopping by to visit and share....risa

Thank you in advance to everyone that comments and/or faves my picture. They are all immensely appreciated.

They look quite strange head on like this.

THEY may be widespread and rather nondescript, streaked brown bird, but I have a real affection for them, as a ground-dwelling species, it is quite approachable with care. Feeds on invertebrates as seen, a bit harder in the capture in the winter when they often form loose flocks.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR FRIENDSHIP, please leave a comment, they are always very appreciated and find encouraging, and will look forward to seeing your latest images......In the UK we are in lockdown again from Thurs, not sure if this means not visiting nature reserves?

Please take great care folks, put your trust in our Lord, and we will get through this................God bless you...............Tomx

Jay - Garrulus Glandarius

Although they are the most colourful members of the crow family, jays are actually quite difficult to see. They are shy woodland birds, rarely moving far from cover. The screaming call usually lets you know a jay is nearby and it is usually given when a bird is on the move, so watch for a bird flying between the trees with its distinctive flash of white on the rump. Jays are famous for their acorn feeding habits and in the autumn you may see them burying acorns for retrieving later in the winter.

The word jay has an archaic meaning in American slang meaning a person who chatters impertinently.

The term jaywalking was coined in 1915 to label persons crossing a busy street carelessly and becoming a traffic hazard. The term began to imply recklessness or impertinent behavior as the convention became established.

In January 2014, Canadian author Robert Joseph Greene embarked on a lobbying campaign among ornithologists in Europe and North America to get Merriam-Websters Dictionary to have a "Jabber of Jays" as an official term under bird groups.

"Don't ask me

What you know is true

Don't have to tell you

I love your precious heart

I was standing

You were there

Two worlds collided

And they could never tear us apart

We could live

For a thousand years

But if I hurt you

I'd make wine from your tears

I told you

That we could fly

'Cause we all have wings

But some of us don't know why

I was standing

You were there

Two worlds collided

And they could never, ever tear us apart

I (Don't ask me)

I was standing (You know it's true)

Mm, you were there (Worlds collided)

Two worlds collided (We're shining through)

And they could never tear us apart

You (Don't ask me)

You were standing (You know it's true)

I was there (Worlds collided)

Two worlds collided (We're shining through)

And they could never tear us apart

I was standing

You were there"

They say swearing is due to limited vocabulary.

I know thousands of words, but I still prefer “FK OFF” to “go away”.

They posed perfectly for their master...HFF!! :))

They are not weight lifting equipments. The middle "bar" is stabbed into your earlobe. So they're really little.

They say that Orange combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow. It is associated with joy, sunshine, and the tropics. Orange represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation.

If true or not it doesn't matter because all of this is what I wish to you, dear Flickr friends, in the beginning of one more week, a very special week in some parts of the world ;)

Woah, ah, mercy, mercy me

Ah, things ain't what they used to be (ain't what they used to be)

Where did all the blue skies go?

Poison is the wind that blows

From the north and south and east

Woah mercy, mercy me, yeah

Ah, things ain't what they used to be (ain't what they used to be)

Oil wasted on the ocean and upon our seas

Fish full of mercury

Oh Jesus, yeah, mercy, mercy me, ah

Ah, things ain't what they used to be (ain't what they used to be)

Radiation underground and in the sky

Animals and birds who live nearby are dying

Hey, mercy, mercy me, oh

Hey, things ain't what they used to be

What about this overcrowded land?

How much more abuse from man can she stand?

Oh, na, na, na

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh

Hey, ooh, woo

They are the largest butterfly in Florida with a wingspan of about 4-1/2 inches. This beautiful butterfly took my breath away! It flew into my yard and very close to me. This is the first time I have seen a giant butterfly.

THANKS FOR YOUR VISIT AND FAVES

ON THE REACTIONS I WILL TRY TO RESPOND BACK

Wheatears back on the moors. I think these are my favourite upland passerines (although Whichat run them close, but they're not here yet)

They are here, not a lot of time to get out looking. My one hope is my little grandaughter gets her wish to see one this year, finally one that has taken interest and she will be getting a camera for Christmas..

It took a bit of effort but they are off to a nearby field only to return again in the evening. Fabulous to see

The Painted bunting is a small brightly-colored member of the cardinal family. The males are brightly colored with blue, green, red and yellow plumage. Females and juveniles are bright green with pale rings around their eyes. The male is considered by many to be North America's most beautiful bird, and they are one of the most popular visitors to bird feeders. Painted buntings are one of the most spectacularly colored and visually impressive birds in the United States and are the only U.S. bird with a blue head along with red underparts.

Painted Buntings are still fairly common, but populations have been dropping for several decades. The North American Breeding Bird Survey estimated a decline of 62% between 1966 and 1995, but the 1966-2014 survey does not find significant decreases, suggesting that populations may have stabilized, or at least the decline has slowed, since 1995. Partners in Flight estimates a global breeding population of 13 million, with 80% spending at least part of the year in the U.S., and 51% in Mexico. The species rates a 12 out of 20 on the Continental Concern Score, and is not on the 2014 State of the Birds Watch List. Painted Bunting is listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List.

Found this male in Lake Wales, Polk County, Florida.

Elephant seals: They're huge, loud and so ugly, they're cute. And each year, they gather on California's Central Coast for mating, birthing and molting seasons. Visitors to San Simeon can catch elephant seals there year-round, but the population grows at certain times of the year as the seals go through different phases in their life cycle. The peak months for viewing elephant seals are from October through March, when their population on San Simeon's shores can reach 17,000. So if you've planned a trip to Hearst Castle or San Luis Obispo in the fall, winter or early spring, consider dropping by San Simeon to watch the elephant seals in action.

From this point up & down 3 miles, the elephant seals estimated of 25,000 there.

So amazing to witness this, they do smell tho when you get near.

Grainy morning memory... about breakfast

The last few days, the cedar waxwings have been enjoying the berries on our dogwood trees. Always happy to see them back as Autumn approaches!
