I wouldn't mind betting that the original pub sign for this, one of the oldest pubs in Plymouth, was based more on the traditional naval dolphins either side of the "ship's transom" style entrance rather than the "happy hippy" Flipper type dolphins on the sign.

This is the Eastside Cafe on the corner of Meriden Street and Coventry Street in Digbeth.

 

Was heading towards Eastside to investigate the fun fair near Curzon Street Station

 

Formerly it was a pub called the Dolphin. It has been around since the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Fairly modern build pub, though it didn't last long.
