A 96-well tray for testing biological samples, viewed under polarized light, and illuminated by the dim glow from pictures on iPads. Not to worry, the "biological samples" shown here come from a bottle of a fine French red wine.

Funny twist to the Test of Courage summer activity. The challenge is to shave the leg of Karakasa, the umbrella demon (´ᗜ`)ゞ
Not real. Luminar Sky replacement test. Photo actually taken during day. You can make out the distant mountains aren’t masking the sky very well, but overall the Auto Sky replacement works pretty good for one click. The waves would also look very different under a long exposure.
This is a first for me just wanted to test what a Raynox 250 could do for my macro photography, this fly was pulled out of the venetian blinds and is probably 3+ months old dead, all the other settings I use in the field are the same. This is fully auto focus with the R5 in pretty dim lighting, I never take "studio" photo's they are all out in nature. We will have to wait and see if this extra bit of kit can make a difference. There is no crop on this image it is full frame.
I hate the wrist position, was more a test of camera angle and blending. Also, if anyone knows where I can find some really nice, HD BoM body and face freckles, I'll be your best friend.
Shot (without prior planning) through a closed window in shadow on a late afternoon under a dim sky. I decided to use this image to test my camera's high ISO abilities and shot it at ISO 51200. I used standard software to remove the resulting color noise, but couldn't improve much in the way of focus. A better than expected result (thanks to noise reduction software). I also like the chipmunk's look of concentration.

Good advice - test the harness *before* you get out there.

New 500mm 4.5 / trying to figure out if it is as sharp as the 150-450 wide open, it is close between the two I think. Next I need to take some shots on apsc
Testing a new lens, not as sharp as I’d hope for its first use but totally my fault. I was in aperture priority instead of manual and the shutter was a little slow for handheld. This is my default test location, it’s close to the house.
Freshly arrived on ONR's property in Rouyn-Noranda the night before, extra CN Test train 4791 is splitting the decommissioned ABS signals in front of the old T&NO station at Temagami. CN's Test train is just back from a "milk run" in Northern Quebec, having tested the La Tuque, Saint-Maurice, Taschereau, Chapais, Matagami and Val-d'Or subdivisions. The ONR scheduled to test their entire network before handing it back to CN a couple of days later in Hearst.

The one shot I was after while away; we stayed at a hotel in Turin which was part of Fiat's old Lingotto factory until the seventies. This is eight portrait shots, second attempt, at a time when there was no-one else in sight, thirty-degree heat in an extremely perilous crouch at the very top of the bank.
The building atop, the Pinacoteca Giovanni e Marella Agnelli Art Gallery - not the ugly, incongruous glass and steel one being built behind - contains an exhibition full of works by Canaletto, Matisse, Picasso, Modigliani and others. I love this place.
The factory was completed in 1923. Unlike any other car factory to date, the factory featured a spiral assembly line that moved up through the building and a concrete banked rooftop test track. It was the biggest car factory Europe had ever seen and was the second largest in the world.
Designed by engineer Giacomo Mattè-Trucco, the five story building featured a simple loop rooftop test track with two banked turns that consumed a 1620 foot x 280 foot portion of rooftop. The test track's banked turns were constructed from an intricate series of concrete ribs in a construction technique that had not been used frequently before Lingotto's construction. It's safe to say the technique had never been used for a test track six stories in the air.
The rooftop test track at Lingotto was not a novelty or an afterthought, but an integral part of the manufacturing process; the Lingotto factory featured a unique upward spiral assembly line. As each Fiat was put together it would progress upwards through the building story by story. Each floor was sequentially designated to specialize in a major part of assembly. What would start on the ground floor as raw materials and individual parts became a running driving Fiat by the time it spiraled its way to the top of the building.
When a Fiat had finished its climb through the 16,000,000 square feet of Lingotto it exited the building by way of the roof. Each Fiat was taken on to the roof and around the banked race track to make sure the prior five floors of manufacturing had done their jobs to satisfaction. The Lingotto test track was even briefly featured in the Italian Job. During the famous escape sequence the red white and blue Mini's go three wide on the banked rooftop race course with police in hot pursuit.
If you're in Turin, go. It's worth the trip. Plus you can go to the track for free if you use a little confidence or you can buy a ticket for the exhibition and go with your ticket.
Baby Brian has another go at passing the Mirror Test (this is his sixth attempt), but he can't work out what that other snail is up to.
The Mirror Test is a behavioral technique that attempts to determine whether an animal possesses the ability of visual self-recognition - the traditional method to assess self-awareness. Few animals have actually passed the Mirror Test, and as yet, snails are not among them.
For Smile on Saturday theme 'Reflection on White'.
No snails were harmed in the making of this photograph.

Metra MPI MP36PH-3S 402 was out and about on a joy ride shortly after delivery. It was passing the Stone Avenue stop on the BNSF Chicago Subdivision in 2003.
BNSF wasn't impressed with these things and Metra eventually reassigned them to other lines.
