Having a breather on a warm and sunny afternoon.
A terrapin is one of several small species of turtle living in fresh or brackish water. Terrapins do not form a taxonomic unit, and may not be related. Many belong to the families Geoemydidae and Emydidae.

Pan-hinged Terrapins, turtle-like creatures seeking up the sun.
Nothing says bonding like a pair of terrapins trying to bask and stack on top of one another for the best sunlight.

Hinged Terrapins are typically observed on exposed rocks, logs or at the water's edge and this is the first one I have seen feeding on plant material some distance away from its natural environment. This photo was taken a week or so after the first summer rains and the grass was new growth.

Mixed series of five. The second Grey Heron nest had at least one chick in. A Terrapin was sunning itself on a log (not a good sign with baby ducklings appearing!). And I was surprised to find it was a Mallard up a tree disturbing the foliage. Possible nest? I will have to check next time.
Spain; Alicante, Clot de Galvany 9/9/20. Iberian counterpart to Emys orbicularis (European Pond Terrapin).
This is a common species of slow moving rivers, ponds and lakes in Spain. Timid but often seen sunning themselves unless disturbed when they will quickly slide into the water.
I presume this is a discarded pet that was sat sunning itself at a local pond. I don't know anything about terrapins but clearly this one is a Wolverhampton Wanderers supporter and so I gave it an appropriate name.
Thanks to all who have visited, commented or faved my photos. (It would be nice if you left a comment too) It is very much appreciated. Constructive criticism welcomed.
