Today is Earth Day, my favorite day of the year, and one of the most important. I've been reflecting deeply on the fact that the earth itself is a living, breathing entity. She exhales oxygen, and the ocean waves are her dance. When the light catches on hundreds of leaves glistening in the wind, or when the water sparkles at you—that's her saying hello. Maybe even showing off a little. She is beautiful beyond description and beyond the shortcomings of crude words. Without her, we are not. Her molten heart beats as one with ours. We are part of her.
And here I try to clumsily string together words to describe to you how important Earth is. How magnificent. And how we each must make efforts, every single day, to help her rather than hurt her. Every effort—whether you deem it large or small—makes a difference. Every effort we all make matters. But we all have to care. We have to care on a fundamental, innate level. As the Lorax said, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not.”
I believe in the power of caring. I believe in the power of recognition. I believe we can change our ways and live less selfishly and more selflessly for the good of our breathtaking planet, and for the good of those who come after we have long left this place behind.
Thank you, Kristi, for being my beautiful muse in the chilly spring storm today to help me capture this image. A heart that glows as green as the earth. In unison with it.

The earth has received the hug of the sun and we shall see the results of that love.

Back to the Balkans, back to Montenegro, and back to the beautiful artificial lake for today’s image.
This time we take a closer look at the awesome overlapping landscape. I really like the trees that are lined up on the gradient of the hill on the left. Had the conditions been right I would have put my 200mm on that area and caught a silhouette of them against an orange sky. Unfortunately while the orange sky was on I was rushing back to the car in order to grab my ND filter which I had stupidly left behind.
Instead I grabbed the filter and all of the colour seemed to drain out of the sky, so I settled for a few long exposures instead.

After a few posts from other parts of Brazil, I am continually drawn back to my favorite location there, Iguazu Falls. The name "Iguazu" comes from the Guarani or Tupi words y [ɨ], meaning "water", and ûasú [waˈsu], meaning "big". wiki That said, I'd be hard pressed to not call this place "land of the waterfalls" or "terra das cachoeiras".
This is a 6 shot vertical pano (w/reverse ND Grad) taken 10 mins. prior to and up stream from this post. With the nice light, I was really hoping this pano would turn out. You can see all of the mist, so I was kept busy wiping off the lens in between shots. I couldn't get Photoshop to stitch these together, so after numerous tries I went a different route and am very glad I was able to salvage it.
Thanks for looking!
