Punakha Valley, Bhutan.
Rice terraces stairstep down the Punakha Valley in Bhutan, a tiny Buddhist kingdom in the Himalaya. Roughly three-quarters of the country's 635,000 people survive by raising crops and livestock, but less than a tenth of the rugged land is arable.
Добра чужого не желать
Ты, боже, мне повелеваешь;

Funny what a tenth of an inch of rain will do to a dry garden. Yesterday, things were green again; cacti looked ... like cacti; but there was only one tree that came into bloom. It's a gorgeous silk tree, but impossible to capture. The flowers are too large to separate into groups of two, or three, or five. And the tree is canopy and I'd be shooting up. It just wouldn't work.
But my Old Man Cactus was looking pretty good for autumn. I'm so far behind, that I still had three shots from 2021.
This is a cactus that you know you want to feel. Run yours hands over. I don't know, but I don't think I'd try it. What if that's like fiberglass?
Espostoa lanata (= Wooly Espostoa) is a species of cactus of the genus Espostoa. Its common names are Peruvian old man cactus, cotton ball cactus, snowball cactus, snowball old man. Its original habitat is from southern Ecuador to the northern Peru on the west slopes of the Andes mountains.
Woolly hairs have been used for pillow filling in Peru. Okay, now that just gives me the willies.

Buon Ferragosto a tutti !

Discovering the Perduca Stone
Lovely and relaxing hiking to Perduca Stone and the church of S.Anna, interesting geological and historical presence near a countryside that I love.
The very ancient rocks are part of a magmatic mantle emerging millions of years ago, while the church dates back to the tenth century.
Have a nice day !

Tenth and last image in this long series on Autumn Flowers!
I thought I should end this series with a bang. A bang of color and cheer and brightness...
This Common Sunflower was spreading its cheer in a sidewalk garden by the street. It was one of many sunflowers growing in mass around it.
The all-white background is the bright, blown-out sky. I had to max out my shadow slider to brighten up the flower, since it was quite dark and underexposed.
I like the result, and I hope you do, too.
Have a great week, everyone!

I felt compelled to take self-portraits yesterday when the electricity went out. I opened up my bedroom window and the light moved me.
This is my room as is. Typically I'd arrange the scene for a self-portrait like this in order to make it as aesthetically pleasing as possible, or crop the photo afterwards to reduce visual clutter. But I have decided to leave this one as-is. To let it be a preservation of a period in time.
My life in my early twenties. A different bedroom than the one I grew up in, but with the same art-emblazoned walls and cluttered floor. The same instruments, record player, and paper moon looking over me, of course.
Tenth in a series of photos from Storm Eunice.
Final shot (for now) of Storm Eunice. That day will last in the memory for some time. Hope it's not too many years before the next one.

On day two of our trip, we ran into a ribbon rail Jimbo working at Perman, MT. They had finished laying rail, and needed to head towards Paradise for a meet with another Jimbo. They would run around the train at the Plains, and then the SD45 would lead down the 4th sub. Here is the first shot of the Jimbo/SD45 chase, west of Perma.
