I have taken this shot before but wanted to go back and catch it at a different time of the year. The previous shot I had taken in the Autumn and some of the leaves in the Trees had started to turn orange and brown and the temple was well hidden by long grass in the foreground. In this shot the trees are Green and the grass directly in front of me had been trodden down more to reveal the temple more. My favourite bit of the photo is the tree in the foreground - I really like it angles inwards and leads the eye into the photo. This was a very bright sunny day so I needed to find somewhere where the light wasn't too harsh so I settled for the shelter of the trees. The shadows from the trees and the bright sky above the temple was still a challenge as were the large amount of other tourists who kept walking into the scene - perseverance won out eventually.

Cited as a world heritage site, the complex is composed of numerous temples and gardens that are absolutely stunning. The Bentendo Hall is popular for its beautiful pond during autumn.

There is a legend that Javanese people always told about this temple. The legend, a Prince named Bandung Bondowoso loved Roro Jonggrang. Not because of love, Jonggrang make a request; Bondowoso must build her a thousand temples in only one night. The Prince entered into meditation and conjured up a multitude of spirits from the earth. The request was fulfilled almost before Jonggrang ask villagers to pound a rice and make a big fire like atmosphere that form morning, attempting to make the prince and the spirits believe that the sun was about to rise. Fooled by the light and the sounds of morning time, the supernatural helpers fled back into the ground. But the prince was furious about the trick and in revenge he cursed Roro Jonggrang to stone. She became the last and the most beautiful of the thousand statues. Although the statue cannot be seen in this picture :P

I'm uploading this for Sim Jee Lee.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, was a pleasant surprise for photowalking. When you expect nothing and suddenly find corners like this the only word that comes from your mouth is "wow".

This circular wall encloses the temple. Made of white marble with intricate carvings.

The temple was built in Tang Dynasty. After six times of fire, sixteen times of enlargement and repair in Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was built to be today’s size in 1882 AD (the eighth year of Guangxu Emperor, Qing Dynasty). It covers an area of 9,8000 square meters.

The temple is of nine layers and four courtyards. It consists of Jiuxing Door, Kuixing Pavilion, Yubei Pavilion, Jiaying Door, Yushu House, Main Hall, Bedroom, east and west side doors and four turrets.

The Main Hall is the main body of the building, with the largest scale, which is also called Big Hall or Shengdi Hall. It is 24 meters high, with 72 stone stelae, symbolizing the 72 peaks of Southern Sacred Mountain.

The wood carving of jumping dragon and flying phoenix under the eaves and the wood carving on the door are very delicate.

'GOLDEN TEMPLE'

Kyoto is easily the most beautiful city in Japan and among the most beautiful ones in the world. It has over 1000, well preserved temples and castles and spectacular nature which dramatically changes its appearance four times a year. Among the most impressive attractions of Kyoto, Kinkaku-Ji, in translation, Temple of the Golden Pavilion is on top of my personal list.

Kinkaku-Ji is a Zen Buddhist Temple, one of 17 historic monuments of Kyoto, all of them being World Heritage Sites. Its history goes all the way back to AD 1397, although it has been rebuilt several times since then.

The temple is set amidst a picture-perfect, meticulously landscaped garden, overlooking a reflective pond and its 10 islands. I'm finding it difficult to put into words just how special this place is, just like the rest of Japan. This country and its amazing people will forever occupy a very special place in my heart.

Jojakkoji Temple is a hidden gem in Arashiyama on Kyoto's Western edge. During autumn the plethora of maple trees turn beautiful shades of crimson and orange as the season turns the gardens into a wonderland.

Sevanavank is a monastic complex located on a peninsula at the northwestern shore of Lake Sevan in the Gegharkunik Province of Armenia, not far from the town of Sevan. Initially the monastery was built at the southern shore of a small island.

I decided to release this old picture taken last March 15, 2006, in conjunction with the events that are happening in Burma (Myanmar). This is a Buddhist Temple run by Buddhist Monks from Thailand. Get more information from the Buddhist Temple set.

This temple was one of the first pictures I treated with HDR. My camera at that time was my reliable Casio Exilim EX-Z57. I still find the pictures good for HDRs. I just have to bring my tripod with me always since I have to manually change the exposures if I want to process the pictures as HDRs. But this just shows you that even a point and shoot camera can produce good quality HDRs. I still got my Exilim but I'm relying heavily now on my Nikon D200 that can shoot fast for up to 9xp. Normally, I go for 5xp or at least 3xp and usually handheld with my D200.

I hope you will like this version.
