"He was travelling.

He knew the melancholy of ocean liners, the cold awakenings under his tents, the vertigo of landscapes and ruins, the bitterness of interrupted sympathies.

He came back.

He frequented the world, and he had other loves again. But the continuous memory of the first, made them insipid and the very flower of feelings was lost. Years passed and he endured the disappointment of his intelligence and the inertia of his heart."

Gustave Flaubert

Capture taken during early morning tour on one of last years trip to the Dolomites. Do not have a flag, but the blue yellow and some fantasy should flag my sympathies here...keep this a peaceful place. Not many options to choose from. Stay healthy and safe. Thanks, Udo

Cemetary art is not restricted to sculptures. In the Cemetery Chapel of Consolação, the play Para Gelar a Alma ("To Chill the Soul").

Inspired by stories by Edgar Allan Poe and a true story, the play tells the story of three female healers, Morella, Ligeia and Berenice, who were cursed and escaped death. They invite audiences to listen to stories, drink coffee, and learn rituals and sympathies. The proximity to the stage, the lighting, the songs and the soundtrack specially composed for the assembly help to compose the atmosphere of suspense of the staging.

As the maximum capacity of audience is 50 people, it is recommended to make the reservation.

Life is as fleeting as a poppy in the wind.

Though the storm of grief is blowing you are as strong as the poppy that survives the harshest of storms.

Sincerest condolences and sympathies on your loss.

Benthall Hall is a 16th-century English country house located in Benthall close to the town of Broseley, Shropshire, England, and a few miles from the historic Ironbridge Gorge.

The Benthalls was a family whose Catholic sympathies led them to incorporate into the house several secret places for priests.

Speak to me in a language I can hear

Humor me before I have to go

Deep in thought I forgive everyone

As the cluttered streets greet me once again

I know I can't be late

Supper's waiting on the table

Tomorrow's just an excuse away

So I pull my collar up and face the cold

On my own

The earth laughs beneath my heavy feet

At the blasphemy in my old jangly walk

Steeple guide me to my heart and home

The sun is out and up and down again

I know I'll make it

Love can last forever

Graceful swans of never

Topple to the earth

And you can make it last forever, you

Can make it last forever, you

Can make it last

And for a moment I lose myself

Wrapped up in the pleasures of the world

I've journeyed here and there and back again

But in the same old haunts I still find my friends

Mysteries not ready to reveal

Sympathies I'm ready to return

I'll make the effort

Love can last forever

Graceful swans of never

Topple to the earth

Tomorrow's just an excuse

Tomorrow's just an excuse

And you can make it last forever, you

Can make it last forever, you

Can make it last forever, you

Ever you

Urban autumn composition. This place could have been any other car, but it turned out to be a Ford.

Ford (Ford Motor Company) is an American automobile company that manufactures cars under the Ford brand. The company is headquartered in Dearborn in the Detroit suburb of Michigan.

The company was founded in 1903 by Henry Ford, who created it after receiving $ 28,000 for business development from five investors. Ford became known as the world's first to use the classic car assembly line, first launched on August 16, 1913.

Henry Ford in 1914

The first model to receive mass recognition, produced by the company, was the Ford Model T, produced in 1908-1927.

In the late 1920s, an agreement was signed with the company with the leadership of the USSR for assistance in the construction of an automobile plant in Nizhny Novgorod. The first cars of the new Soviet automobile plant - GAZ-A and GAZ-AA, were licensed copies of Ford cars.

In the late 1930s, the company did not enjoy the trust of the American military due to the founder's overt pro-Nazi sympathies. In the 1930s, Ford built a production facility in Nazi Germany, which produced 12,000 tracked vehicles and 48,000 wheeled vehicles for the needs of the Wehrmacht. The head of the company was awarded the highest award of the Third Reich. Nevertheless, with the entry of the United States into World War II, the company began to produce army trucks and jeeps for the American troops (no longer of its own design - the Ford GPW was an adapted version of the Willys MB), acted as an alliance in the US tank building program.

In the mid-2000s, due to fierce competition in the global automotive market, Ford was experiencing a serious financial crisis. In 2006, Alan Mulally became president of the company, who sold the Aston Martin and Volvo Cars divisions, and successfully restructured it by launching a new One Ford strategy, which calls for Ford to gradually launch global vehicles common to all markets, bringing the company back to profitability.

...a prayer for all those who have passed recently...the famous and the not-so-famous, and sympathies to their families and friends and fans who will miss them dearly. On explore at #14 June 29..wow..thanks!!.

Thank you for many kind messages of sympathies about the terrible earthquake in my country.

All of our families are safe so far, but lots of damages have been unknown..

Any way, I’m hoping all of my friends are safe and peace.

For those of you in the Northern Hemisphere experiecing winter I sympathies with you! After living 6 years in three European countries it's great to be back in Australia. Sure I miss the art, culture, food and history of Europe but the Ozzie summer sun is making up for that. The picture is of my sunnies. Enough said.

Number one: this is art. Number two: this is seen and photographed by an old republican. OK, now we can get closer. This electrified image (violet neon) by Illuminati Neon (Mark Sloper) is for sale. It is also a kind of contribution to the Queen's Platinum Jubilee (70 years in office). The Queen has shown incredible stamina - something that can not be said of some of the wider royal family. When the artist calls this a "mad parade" you can imagine some of the things he had in mind when making this. I don't know whether Mark Sloper has republican sympathies, but I do know that his work is London-based and that his kind of art has been dubbed "Brit Punk Art". Even Punks have to earn a living. That is why Castle Fine Arts gallery in St Christopher's Place, London, is selling this and other of his works for a price. I am not a royalist, but, like the artist, I do like the madness of the show. Fuji X100F.

I came across these lovely flowers laden with morning dew recently. A reminder of beauty in the natural world.

Sympathies to my friends and family who have lost loved ones recently. Memories will live on.

And now we rise

And we are everywhere

And now we rise from the ground

And see she flies

And she is everywhere

See she flies all around

'Nick Drake'

The only things flying in the sky over Britain today were the birds and how lovely that was. (sympathies to those who could not take their plane flight today due to the volcanic dust from Iceland)

Some images of my Dad, Bill MacLennan. As a very young man in North Africa at the start of the adventure, afterwards at the memorial to his comrades, and much later in Holland among a free generation. I imagine VE day came as quite a relief, with tens of millions dead and a continent in ruins. Of the 450 men of 47 RM Commando who landed on D Day, my Dad was one of 88 left standing by VE Day. If we could reach out and speak to that generation, I doubt I'd bother mentioning the terrible spring of 2020 when we all had to endure staying at home and amuse ourselves for a while. My huge sympathies are with those who have lost loved ones, and my undying admiration goes to the NHS staff and many other supporting workers who look after us; but a wee bit of perspective needs to be maintained. Lest we forget.

We've got no time to lose

Your news is old news

Hate this, hate me, hate this

Right approach for the wrong

It's time to spread the word

Let the voice be heard

All of us, one of us, all of us

Dominate and take the motherfucking world

Mass prediction, unification

Breathing life into our lungs

Every creed and every kind

To give us depth for strength

Taught when we're young to hate one another

It's time to have a new reign of power

Make pride universal so no one gives in

Turn our backs on those who oppose

Then when confronted we ask them the question

What's wrong with their mind?

What's wrong with your mind?

It's time to rise

Rise, rise

It's time to rise

We've lived with past mistakes

And we've lived with our own

Forgive, forget forgive

Be a man, not a child

There are no tears for peace

Of the common sympathies

Educate, reinstate, educate

A thing of past, the trouble in the states

Mass prediction, unification

Breathing life into our lungs

Every creed and every kind

To give us depth for strength

Taught when we're young to hate one another

It's time to have a new reign of power

Make pride universal so no one gives in

Turn our backs on those who oppose

Then when confronted we ask them the question

What's wrong with their mind?

What's wrong with your mind?

It's time to rise

Rise, rise

It's time to rise

Mass prediction, unification

Breathing life into our lungs

Every creed and every kind

To give us depth for strength

One of the finest men I've ever known has passed away.

Ken Stork's wit, intelligence, generosity, kindness, consideration, and tremendous way with words made it a joy to be his friend on Flickr and his friend across the miles and time zones. My deepest sympathies go out to his children, grandchildren, neighbors, friends, and all those who loved him.

A rare exotic moth flutters under the moon and steals through her lace curtains.. I couldn't even know if her curtains were lace but I imagine them so as she tells me her story.. I wish I could ask her.. his fluttering wings would stay there with her all night.

This is the magic and poetry of her, my dear friend April. The same gentle soul who taught me to crush delicate white egg shells from the kitchen and sprinkle them in the dark soil of my April in Paris roses. The bushes we got together and planted at the same time a thousand miles apart only a couple Springs ago now a bittersweet reminder of her grace and beautiful strength. Yesterday, we lost April and the world will never look the same without her sensibility and loving friendship that warmed me so..

My deepest sympathies to her friends here on Flickr that loved her and were there for her so fiercely and compassionately, you know who you are, you were a loving and driving force in April's life.

Sleep well my rose sister.

Embracing you in my thoughts.

i have been struggling with all the horrible world events this last week. my thoughts and prayers and deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the those lost on flight 4U 9525.

Happy Caturday! I tried to do a photo shoot of my "cool cats" per 27 July 2019 Happy Caturday theme, but didn't have much luck. Tikki was overjoyed at the idea of going for a walk outside with me until she got a good look at the bright sun and felt the heat. She decided to go no further than this bit of shade in the neighbor's driveway, which didn't seem a good long term place for her to rest for obvious reasons. I turned around and she sprinted ahead of me to get into cool inside. *

* Yes, this is western Oregon, heat and sun aren't our usual. My sympathies for the real heat wave that has been going on in Europe recently.

A good friend to me and to many on Flickr, Jeff White, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2020. Even though Jeff had been battling cancer for a long while, he stayed active on Flickr, especially the Super Six and Galaxy and Stars groups, until shortly before his death. So many of my days on Flickr began with a greeting from Jeff. Jeff loved Cuba and in December of 2017 he married his fiancee, Melissa, there. Since then, Jeff struggled with a daunting amount of red tape and expense to have his wife come and live with him in Canada. I was so happy for him when he told me, around Christmas time, that the government had informed him that there were only 47 days left for the sponsorship of Melissa to be completed. It was with a very heavy heart that I learned that he died before she was able to join him. My deepest sympathies go out to Melissa, to the rest of Jeff's family, and to all his friends, on and off Flickr. Rest in peace, my dear friend.

Please note: There is also a remembrance thread on the Super Six Bronze Discussion page for those who would like to share their thoughts about Jeff.

First, I would like to thank each and every one of you for your sympathy and condolences following my last posting. It was very much appreciated and heartwarming.

I present to you a long-desired warbler that I had never managed to meet before this spring. She truly spoiled us with her numerous appearances and her proximity. A handsome male, very active, not to say hyperactive.

In 1268 a group of friars from Pisa founded the church of the Blessed Virgin of Carmel in Florence. The construction works were carried out with the contribution of the Municipality and of the wealthiest Florentine families and went on even beyond the date of the consecration (1422), ending only in 1475.

In 1423 the rich merchant Felice Brancacci, returning from Egypt, commissioned the execution of the frescoes. Masolino and Masaccio worked together on the Stories of Saint Peter, the saint to whom the chapel was originally dedicated.

because of the departure of the first for Hungary and of the second for Rome, in 1427 the frescoes remained unfinished.

Following the exile of Brancacci (1436), who had fallen into disgrace because of his anti-Medicean sympathies, the friars of the convent had the portraits of all the personages linked to his family erased and in 1460 they entitled the chapel to the Madonna del Popolo, inserting in it the venerated 13th-century panel.

It was only in the years 1481-1483 that Filippino Lippi carried out the restoration and completion of the missing scenes. The paintings were in danger of being lost several times: in 1680 the Grand Duchess Vittoria della Rovere opposed the intention of the Marquis Ferroni to transform the chapel in Baroque style, but in the middle of the eighteenth century are made modernization interventions that destroy the paintings of the vault and of the lunettes. Escaped the fire that devastated the interior of the church in 1771. of the church, the chapel was purchased in 1780 by the Riccardi, who renovated the altar and the floor. The frescoes, neglected throughout the nineteenth century, were subjected to dusting in 1904. 1904; the restoration work carried out in the 1980s restoration carried out in the eighties of the twentieth century has finally allowed to recover their their clear and bright colors.

Whakaari, White Island in New Zealand erupted one year ago with dire consequences for the tourists who were inspecting the volcanic crater on the island.

Whilst 2020 will go down as a horror year for millions, the survivors and the families of those who died on the Island will forever remember this day. The heroism of the rescue efforts and the efforts of the residents of nearby Whakatane are also worth remembering.

My sympathies to all involved. It was a place I was willing to risk visiting! There is something fascinating about active volcanoes.

Sooner or later, even our closest companions must leave us and make their own way into the great eternity. The grief is very hard to bear, but I tell myself that this way we get to love more of them in our lifetime.

My deepest sympathies for the sudden loss of sweet Dee.

Who are often not very well paid and are on the front line too.

My sympathies go out to you all.

In my garden Stafford UK 8th April 2020

Mother's day may be celebrated on a different day elsewhere but here in Australia is generally on the second Sunday in May. Quite often the warm autumnal weather has taken a dive and we have a cooler, greyer day.

But the bright flowers generally lift one's mood. So happy mother's day to all out there and time to remember your mum.

This year will be better here in Melbourne than the last years lockdown, but I am aware that in many parts of the world, things are getting worse. So all my sympathies as well.

Once more the Heavenly Power

Makes all things new,

And domes the red-plowed hills

With loving blue;

The blackbirds have their wills,

The throstles too.

Opens a door in Heaven;

From skies of glass

A Jacob's ladder falls

On greening grass,

And o'er the mountain-walls

Young angels pass.

Before them fleets the shower,

And burst the buds,

And shine the level lands,

And flash the floods;

The stars are from their hands

Flung through the woods,

The woods with living airs

How softly fanned,

Light airs from where the deep,

All down the sand,

Is breathing in his sleep,

Heard by the land.

O, follow, leaping blood,

The season's lure!

O heart, look down and up,

Serene, secure,

Warm as the crocus cup,

Like snow-drops, pure!

Past, Future glimpse and fade

Through some slight spell,

A gleam from yonder vale,

Some far blue fell;

And sympathies, how frail,

In sound and smell!

Till at thy chuckled note,

Thou twinkling bird,

The fairy fancies range,

And, lightly stirred,

Ring little bells of change

From word to word.

For now the Heavenly Power

Makes all things new,

And thaws the cold, and fills

The flower with dew;

The blackbirds have their wills,

The poets too.

Cades Cove

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Blount County, Tennessee

This building of the Primitive Baptist Church dates from 1887, when it replaced the 1827 log building that had served since the church's establishment. Initially, the church was Cades Cove Baptist Church, but a rift developed within the membership that led to the expulsion of those favoring missionary work (including the pastor) and the 1841 creation of Missionary Baptist Church; the original church then adopted the name Primitive Baptist Church. Services were not held during the American Civil War; most members favored the Union while Confederate sympathies ran high in Cades Cove [information from Cades Cove Tour booklet available at park visitor centers, and from Cades Cove Loop Road Auto Tour on line]. I didn't study the grave stones, but noticed a grave as recent as 2009. Cades Cove Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977 (77000111); contributing properties include three churches, Cable Mill, and various cabins and farms.

60087 passing Winwick with 6E10, the 11.35 Liverpool - Drax loaded biomass on Tues 18th January 2022.

Keen observers will notice the tail end of 6C89 in the distance, which a few minutes earlier had drawn to a stop pretty much in front of where I was stood here. I knew by that time that 6E10 was in section and thought at that point that a bowlage was inevitable. As luck would have it (for us anyway) the train set off again, only to draw to a halt where it can be seen here. If anyone is reading this who was on the bridge, I can but offer my sympathies.

This was my first visit to Winwick and also the first time I've managed a shot of a Bluebird 60 on the Drax circuit. I was pleased to meet up with local photter Alan Hart here, who pointed out to me the option of this shot. Without Alan's help, I'd no doubt have been stood on the bridge in the distance and been gnashing my teeth all the way home.

Greetings my friends.

I wish you all a happy and joyful New Year. I hope your life will be illuminated by love, warmth, happiness, joy and friendship.

I hope your Christmas was a good one and 2017 has been kind to you, your family, friends and loved ones.

I hope that 2018 will be a year of peace and joy for all.

There are many people around the world who have not seen peace for years. Let hope and pray that their dreams of peace will be answered.

Lets hope that the peoples of Iraq and Syria and the rest of the Middle East enjoy peace and happiness.

In Europe there have been terrorist attacks, civil unrest and major accidents.

My sympathies are with the people affected by these events. I hope next year will be kinder to them than the last year.

There are many who I feel sorry for, many peoples are now suffering. Lets hope their life's will be illuminated with love, happiness and joy.

Let us give a thought for our fellow citizens who are currently unwell and in need of care and those who devote their time to help them.

Take care my friends.

I once again wish you a Happy New year, I hope this one will be a great one for you. A year full of Happiness, Joy and love.

Have lots of fun.

Kind and warm regards

Ross

Dearest Maman,

I am writing to you from my new home!

As you know, I had planned to stay in Countess Dysart’s commercial lodgings, but I discovered to my shock that the prices for a room were far beyond my meager budget.

Before meeting with my employer, Miss Perspicacity Frost, I left my luggage with the porter in the lovely “welcome center,” which I understand is serving as something of a town hall until the next round of colony funding. I confess I was a few minutes late, but when I explained why (no excuses, Maman! you raised your youngest better than that!), she took me firmly by the hand (Miss Frost is a noted equestrienne, and as a result has a grip more than suited to hauling wisps of girls around) and let me to a lovely little cottage. In no uncertain terms, she told me that it was mine, and that she would select appropriate furnishings, rather than leave me to the whims of the quartermaster.

Thus, here I am. I am across the street from a lovely little park, and just at the end of the Academy’s private plaza. It has rained all day, so I didn’t feel guilty at all about setting up house, then curling up with a nice pot of tea.

I have nearly two months until I start teaching, but Miss Frost has named me Head of Department for Fashion, though I protested that I’m far too junior for such an august role. Miss Frost told me that I was wrong, and she wanted to hear no more of it. Aside from having had some level of manners beaten into me, I am mildly terrified of the lady, and quickly acquiesced.

And so, I am designing a Major Course of Study for the young ladies. My charges will have a mastery of technique and terminology, color and cut, past and present. I confess, despite my continued trepidations, I am quite enjoying the challenge!

I

t's quiet in town: I am one of the first to arrive who is not one of the founder-investors. But, there is both a lovely café and a quite respectable tavern next to the Academy’s main building, so I am well fed, and looked after.

Please give Papa my love, and my deepest sympathies to my brothers-in-law.

But seriously, my best to all,

Your loving daughter,

Hannah

The news this week continues to be "awful" (a nod to Mark Humphries on 7.30) with the terrible shooting of ex-prime minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, and the sacking of UK PM, Boris Johnson by his party.

Shinzo Abe died as a result of individual violence. Boris Johnston largely brought on his own demise as PM by actions that caused his party to finally get sick of him.

The newspaper that is lying on the ground, in the rain, will bring the traditional media take on the awful news.

My sympathies to the people of Japan. Plus sympathies to the residents of NSW whose fourth flood this year will also be producing floods of tears.

What a year and we are only half way through. I doubt BJ deserves many sympathies.

Thank you so much for all your kindness and sympathies. I really appreciate it and I will keep it in my heart forever.

Manila, Philippines

My sympathies for the victims of these murders.

The louse that murdered the people in London lived a mile and a half from us, we passed the house often on the way to town. Quite a scary feeling having maniacs living closeby.

As not many foreigners might know, the international relations of Poles and Hungarians throughout history have been very close, confirmed by a famous folk proverb about mutual friendliness. Hungarians supported Poles in times of hardship and political struggle, by providing shelter and asylum.

To this day, our societies share some sympathies, and so I find that it's no wonder, that Attila helped us before our trip to Hungary and provided us with some valuable info about interesting things to spot in the area.

An area of interest turned out to be Ózd, a town which just recently was stormed by railfans, due to a special retro event, during which the local regio trains of MÁV were hauled by classic M62 locomotives. We however were more interested in the M44 family locomotives working at the local steelworks. This series of locomotives is a real treat for us - knowing that they used to run in Poland too, but never having seen them live, meant that we really wanted to get them on picture.

After around 10 minutes of waiting at a railroad crossing we were greeted with the sight of 449.034 pulling empty slag wagons, as it was returning from the slag heap towards the industrial plant's premices. The loco appears to have received some weird modernisation, judging by the engine sound and the odd-looking exhaust.

Museo Nazionale palazzo Venezia

The Palazzo di Venezia is a palazzo (palace) in central Rome, Italy, just north of the Capitoline Hill. The original structure of this great architectural complex consisted of a modest medieval house intended as the residence of the cardinals appointed to the church of San Marco. In 1469 it became a residential papal palace, having undergone a massive extension, and in 1564, Pope Pius IV, to win the sympathies of the Republic of Venice, gave the mansion to the ambassadors of La Serenissima on condition that a part of the building should be kept as a residence for the cardinals—the Apartment Cibo—and that the Venetian Republic should provide for the building's maintenance and future restoration. The palazzo faces Piazza Venezia and Via del Plebiscito. It currently houses the National Museum of the Palazzo Venezia.

Ripples in time, in the water or the coming of cloudy days. Everything is fluid and changeable. It sometimes feels that the safety and security of life is being upset by major upheaval getting closer to home. But not yet here!

My sympathies to all those who have been targeted by violence in Melbourne. The overseas conflicts are always brought back to citizens here in Australia but we have been fortunate to not have too many. But the rate seems to be increasing given the devastation in Gaza and middle east. HSS

Vienna, Maryland built in 1861 by Captain James K. Lewis. It was the first brick house in Vienna, and the first built in an Italianated design in Vienna. Showing his southern sympathies he said he was going to build "something the damn Yankees couldn't burn down"

Dear Flickr friends. My absence due to major surgery will continue for a few more weeks whilst I recover. Those of you whom I know better are aware of my illness and I thank you all for your wonderful and kind good wishes. I am well on the road to a full and complete recovery.

I have broken my cyber silence to post this image, which, today, is most poignant.

It is WESTMINSTER BRIDGE, on a wonderful day in 2015, shot from the top of the London Eye.

I post it today in defiance to terrorism globally and in my Country.

Today innocent children and people were mown down on this very bridge by a terrorist who took the lives of some and catastrophically destroyed the lives of others, as well as those who love them.

A brave police officer was also stabbed to death whilst trying to apprehend this misguided murdering terrorist. The officer tried to stop him without using his weapon and paid for it with his life.

This is a beautiful bridge in my beautiful City and I, along with my fellow Brits, will never let terrorism define us. We carried on with our stiff upper lip after July 7th attacks over a decade ago and we will do the same now.

This photo represents the bridge as it will be, again, in a couple of days. It will be full of people, buses, taxies, tourists and cars. We will never give in to this.

Sympathies and condolences go to all those who on March 22nd 2017 in central London, had their lives lost or destroyed.

so strange how i can replay back certain events, moment by moment. and they can be just as painful as they were at that very time.

She was born an Archduchess of Austria, and was the penultimate child and youngest daughter of Empress Maria Theresa and Emperor Francis I. She became dauphine of France in May 1770 at age 14 upon her marriage to Louis-Auguste, heir apparent to the French throne. On 10 May 1774, her husband ascended the throne as Louis XVI and she became queen. Marie Antoinette's position at court improved when, after eight years of marriage, she started having children. She became increasingly unpopular among the people, however, with the French libelles accusing her of being profligate, promiscuous, allegedly having illegitimate children, and harboring sympathies for France's perceived enemies—particularly her native Austria. The false accusations of the Affair of the Diamond Necklace damaged her reputation further. During the Revolution, she became known as Madame Déficit because the country's financial crisis was blamed on her lavish spending and her opposition to the social and financial reforms of Turgot and Necker.
