In pre-Columbian Peru, feathers were highly valued for their magnificent colors, silken texture, and perhaps also for their symbolism. Known in ritual contexts as early as the third millennium B.C., feathers served various ceremonial and secular purposes among Andean peoples throughout preconquest history. On the Pacific south coast in the early first millennium A.D., the Nasca peoples buried feathered garments and precious cloth figurines only a few inches tall, which were dressed in miniature clothes embellished with feather tufts, as offerings. In the seventh and eighth centuries the Wari people of the southern highlands covered impressive numbers of large panels with radiant macaw feathers, perhaps for display on festive occasions or as offerings. Farther north in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, Chimu royalty rode in feather-decorated litters and wore feathered tabards and luxurious accessories in iridescent blues, yellows, reds, and greens. The conquering Inka are said to have "paved" the streets in their imperial city, Cusco, with colored and feathered cloth on the occasion of royal weddings.
Ancient Peruvian featherwork has not been extensively studied. As these fragile objects only rarely survive burial in good condition, the full repertoire may never be known.

Looking back through some images taken on a visit to St. Mary's church Hickling Norfolk, earlier this year.
«Відносно оригінальної назви "Пирогощая" висловлювалось багато думок і припущень. Оскільки така цікава назва церкви існує тільки в Києві, спробуємо детально розібратися з її походженням.
Слово "Пирогощая" зустрічається ще і в Іпатіївському літописі 1155 р.: "Том же лете йде Андрей от отца своего (Юрия Долгорукого) из Вышегорода в Суждаль без отне воле и взя из Вышегорода икону святой Богородицы (пізніше отримає назву Володимирської. - Л. Т.) юже принесоше с Пирогощею ис Царяграда в одином корабли" [4, с. 117-119]. У даному випадку мова йде про ікону.
Існує кілька гіпотез походження назви церкви й ікони. Одні дослідники трактують походження церкви від назви ікони, інші - навпаки. Слово "пирогощая" в перекладі з грецької мови означає "башточка". Вперше таке тлумачення запропонував В. Завитневич. Воно було уточнено видатним знавцем візантійського мистецтва і грецької мови М. Кондаковим.
Думку, що назву церкві "Пирогощая" дала грецька ікона, підтримує Д. Ліхачов, вважаючи, що ікона Пирогощая, як і Володимирська, була привезена до Києва із Царграда ще до початку будівництва церкви.
Це могло трапитися у 1129 або у 1130 р., коли князь Мстислав відправив "в заточение (в греки) полоцких князей с их семьями". На зворотному шляху з Константинополя русичі, які супроводжували засуджених, могли привезти списки (копії) двох ікон - Пирогощої та Володимирської.
У монографії "Слово о полку Игореве и культура его времени" Д. Ліхачов пише, що ікона Пирогощая є копією ікони імператорського Влахернського монастиря у Константинополі "Одигітрії Башенної", де Богоматір зображено на тлі семибаштового Влахернського монастиря [36].»

INDIEN, Khajuraho (Tempel)
Most Khajuraho temples were built between 950 and 1050 by the Chandela dynasty. Historical records note that the Khajuraho temple site had 85 temples by 12th century, spread over 20 square kilometers. Of these, only about 20 temples have survived, spread over 6 square kilometers. Of the various surviving temples, the Kandariya Mahadeva Temple is decorated with a profusion of sculptures with intricate details, symbolism and expressiveness of ancient Indian art
The Khajuraho temples feature a variety of art work, of which 10% is sexual or erotic art outside and inside the temples. Some of the temples that have two layers of walls have small erotic carvings on the outside of the inner wall. Some scholars suggest these to be tantric sexual practices.] Other scholars state that the erotic arts are part of Hindu tradition of treating kama as an essential and proper part of human life, and its symbolic or explicit display is common in Hindu temples. James McConnachie, in his history of the Kamasutra, describes the sexual-themed Khajuraho sculptures as "the apogee of erotic art":

Пресвята Богоматір невимовно зраділа цій звістці. Вона розповіла про неї названому сину Своєму, Іоанові, і стала готуватися до Своєї кончини. Інших апостолів на той час не було в Єрусалимі, вони розійшлися по інших країнах проповідувати про Спасителя. Богоматір жадала попрощатися з ними, і ось Господь чудесним способом зібрав до Неї всіх апостолів, крім Фоми, перенісши їх Своєю всемогутньою силою. Біль пройняв їх, коли вони дізналися, для чого Бог зібрав їх: вони мали втратити спільну Матір свою. Але Божа Матір утішала їх, обіцяючи не залишати їх і всіх християн і після Своєї смерті, завжди молитися про них. Потім Вона усіх їх благословила.

Юдейські священики і начальники намагалися розігнати це святе шестя, але Господь невидимо охороняв. Один юдейський священик, на ім'я Афоній, підбіг і схопився за одр, на якому несли тіло Божої Матері, щоб перекинути його. Але невидимий ангел відсік йому обидві руки. Афоній, вражений таким страшним чудом, миттю розкаявся, і апостол Петро зцілив його.»

The series "Their secret...", is dedicated to the flowers, their soul... Specifically, this picture is my impression from looking at one of Lilies.
Found this photo on an old memory card . the only time i have found a white grand piano in an abandoned location . Its a shame this mansion was burnt down last year .

The original work is a miniature.
I had a desire to experiment a bit with the drawing: enlarge it and add color. Thanks to this, the work acquired a unique image. A change in color of the work changed the impression and mood...
A widespread symbol in the United States. Interestingly, religious symbols are different depending on what part of the world you happen to live in and revered just as strongly in those places.

Can't think of a better title... lol. Made me wonder if it pulsates or it vibrates !!!! Just kidding.. But I'm sure, it is strong, bereft in size but rich in length.. hahaha. Since time of the Mayans and the Aztecs, symbolism was prevalent as a way to represent something. What would this be? of course, your guess is as good as mine - a flower... :-)

Taken as part of the motion blur theme in this week's Macro Mondays group - I didn't post this one as the motion blur wasn't all that obvious. When taking these I had no idea of the connection between the symbolism of white feathers and spirituality. It sounds daft but I was compelled to take photos of floating white feathers. They were impossible to capture but I felt I couldn't switch to another subject. Even after the theme I'm still obsessing over them; and then I read about the connection between the symbolism of white feathers and grief. It seems strange then that someone very dear to me passed away three weeks ago and I had attended their funeral just days before. It could just be a coincidence...

The events occurring now in Ukraine weigh heavily on my mind and while distracted with some photos from a few weeks ago, this one, along with the quote, seemed to bring those thoughts together with words and symbolism.

Me tuvo el espejito delante de los ojos (se me ocurrió un verso infantil; "Espejito, espejito en mi mano"), y ví, algo esfumado y nebuloso, un retrato siniestro que se agitaba, trabajaba y fermentaba dentro de sí mismo: vi a mi propia imagen, y dentro de ésta, al lobo estepario, un lobo hermoso y farruco, pero con una mirada descarridada y temerosa, con los ojos brillantes, a ratos fiero y a ratos triste, y esta figura de lobo fluía en incesante movimiento por el interior de Harry, lo mismo que en un río un afluente de otro color enturbia y remueve, en lucha penosa, infiltrándose el uno en el otro, llenos de afán incumplido de concreción.
Triste, triste me miraba el lobo deshecho, a medio conformar, con sus tímidos ojos hermosos.
