9. jūnijā Ādažos norisinājās starptautiskās militārās mācības “Swift Response 2018”, kuru laikā ar desmit lidmašīnām “C-17 Globemaster” no Fort Bragas, Ziemeļkarolīnā, ASV, ieradās vairāk nekā 600 karavīru no ASV 82. gaisa desanta divīzijas un Lielbritānijas bruņotajiem spēkiem, vedot līdzi arī ekipējumu un tehniku.

Lidmašīnas izlidoja no ASV, Fort Bragas 8.jūnija rītā un bez apstāšanās desmit stundu ilgā lidojumā atlidoja uz Latviju, veicot degvielas uzpildi gaisā virs Atlantijas okeāna.

Desantu vēroja arī aizsardzības ministrs Raimonds Bergmanis un Nacionālo bruņoto spēku komandieris ģenerālleitnants Leonīds Kalniņš.

Starptautiskās militārās mācības “Swift Response 2018” ir ikgadējas ASV spēku Eiropā vadītas ASV Armijas un ASV Gaisa spēku apvienotās mācības ar mērķi trenēt sabiedroto spēku stratēģiskā gaisa desanta reaģēšanas spējas pēkšņa apdraudējuma gadījumā.

On June 9, 2018 the 82nd Airborne Division conducted a Joint Forcible Entry training into Latvia with ten C-17 Globemaster III military transport aircraft, 642 paratroopers and heavy drop platforms.

Paratroopers departed from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, on the morning of June 8 and flew over to Latvia with in-flight refuel over the Atlantic Ocean.

Exercise “Swift Response 2018” is an annual US Army Europe led multinational exercise being held in Latvia, Lithuania and Poland.

The C – 17 Globemaster III aircraft is the primary aircraft used for American airborne operations.
