In Märsta, old stones stand proud beside bold red walls, both gazing up at a sky so vivid it could stop time. Every cloud drifts like a whispered story, every detail beckoning you to linger a little longer.

Your visit and kind words always brighten my day. May this little scene add a touch of Swedish charm to your world.

We took a walk after dinner in Jukkasjärvi, a village in northern Sweden. The sunlight was warm and made the red houses look even more beautiful, so I couldn't resist documenting the surroundings with a picture. The village is located by the Torne River and is known for its famous Icehotel. While we stayed in a cozy cabin instead of the cold rooms at the Icehotel, we still wanted to explore this unique place. Inside, we were amazed by the incredible ice sculptures and themed rooms created by talented artists. To our joy, we also discovered that the Icehotel had a bar where we could enjoy delicious drinks. However, amidst our admiration for the hotel's beauty, we couldn't help but wonder about its sustainability. With temperatures outside rising above 25 degrees Celsius, we questioned how an ice hotel could continue operating. Fortunately, we learned that the Ice Hotel is completely self-sufficient, using solar panels to generate its own power - Jukkasjärvi, Norrbotten, Sweden

Many of the houses in the Swedish countryside were built by the families that live in them. Most of these houses have a larger roof ratio than houses in the States. It's as if they're 2/3 roof, and 1/3 house. This house is a great example.

The building of the Skånes Enskilda Bank, built in 1897-1900 and designed by Gustaf Wickman (1858-1916) at the intersection of the Drottninggatan and Fredsgatan in Stockholm. It stands diagonally across the street from another bank building designed in the same style by Wickman for the Sydsvenska Kreditaktiebolaget and built in 1906-1909. It's a wildly eclectic style mixing baroque and art nouveau with some accents of American architecture in the use of large windows. The building is clad in a red sandstone typical of the Skåne region called övedssandsten. The sculpted portal representing an allegory of commerce and shipping was the result of a collaboration between Wickman and an obscure sculptor called G. F. Nordling. The building now houses Government offices.

A glimpse from a short journey to Sweden. I don't want to bore you with private photos but thought the traditional Swedish house we stayed is worth a short portrait. Situated somewhere in the middle of the forest it encorporates all our dreams of Swedens romantic ambience.

Detail of Frejgatan 32, built 1906-1910, designed by Dorph & Höög, one of the largest and most prolific architecture firms in Scandinavia at teh beginning of the 20th century. Between 1903 amd 1907, they designed some 250 buildings most of them in the Vasastan and Södermalm areas of Stockholm. Disparaged by architecture critics at the time, their buildings are now the pride of any street that has them.

Katarina church, Södermalm, Stockholm. Originally designed by Swedish architect Jean de la Valée (1620-1696) and built in 1656-1695. The church was named after Princess Katarina (1584-1638), mother of Charles X of Sweden, the king who commissioned its construction. The church has been twice destroyed by fire, first in 1723 and then in 1990. The architect for the first reconstruction, Göran Josuæ Adelcrantz, who was the city architect at the time, enlarged the tall octagonal tower which became characteristic of the church.

Skånebanken (completed 1900) by architect Gustaf Wickman in Stockholm, is an exuberant baroque showcase of the Malmö-based bank’s home region.

Its red sandstone facade is from Övedskloster quarry in Skåne and is full of sculptures and other decorations by sculptors G. F. Nordling and Christian Eriksson. As shown in the photo here, ornamental details above the entry portal include fruit and vegetables, griffins, and allegorical figures representative of Malmo and Skåne.

The 1904 book Sveriges Konst; från 1700 talets slut till 1900-talets Början i dess hufvuddrag by Georg Nordensvan describes the buiilding (translated via Google):

“Of the many new bank buildings, Skånebanken by Gustaf Wickman (b. 1858) is the most original. Composed for a place where two rather narrow streets intersect, it is made to be seen only up close. The shapes, which show new and surprising motifs, are solid and massive, as befits a building, representing the material possibilities of solid Skåne. The magnificent reddish Scanian sandstone has willingly adhered to the will of the architect. In few of our architects' works is it such a personal and lively mood as in this improvisation, which stands rather alone even in the creation of its originator.”

The building now houses government offices. This photo was taken in summer 2018; in autumn 2018 the Swedish Property Agency (Statens fastighetsverk) and consultant Mikael Traung initiated extensive facade restorations.

This photo shows the east facade of the 1901 Malmö Museum designed by Swedish architect John Smedberg. Located at the southern edge of Slottsparken (Castle Park), the museum later relocated to the Malmö Castle and the City Library moved here in 1946.

A major expansion to the west by Danish architect Henning Larsen opened in 1997 and this building was then renovated and reopened in 1999. It continues to be part of the library complex.
