I really love woven textiles, and I'm always on the lookout for one of those gorgeous Southwestern/Central-South American woven rugs, or blankets. This is the closest I've come to finding one thrifting.... in headband form!

New works are up! They're all handmade with some new and lots of vintage fabrics. Looking at the pile of pillows it makes me extra happy to know that some of the fabrics come from trades and swaps here on flickr! Thank you.....

Custom order dress for little Frida. She's going to wear it for her Christening.

It's made from different vintage fabrics

On a recent thrift hunt, I totally lucked out and found these gorgeous pieces. I suspect they were donated by a studio, as each one had a semblance of continuity and even finishing. I really love these, and have been using the bigger bowl constantly. They have a reassuring heft in your hands.

Mini bunny hood made for toys and other small heads. 100% recycled wool, from felted & forgotten scarf. Here is cat naked.

Cat from "Couches & Cats" set by Hong Kong artist/toy designer Eric So. The kitty is from his ESTATE line.

Joel fools around with stripes, color and my beat up jelly flats. Rudy's kitchen floor provides the perfect background.

A prison art lamp of folded origami-like papers, made entirely of discarded magazines. A beautiful example of recycling. The lamp is not wired, but could be functional with a small compact flourescent, perhaps? Need to check the fire code on that one.

This was made by my brother, who is a natural talent with this technique. Other examples of paper prison art here and here.

To clarify, my brother was incarcerated when he made this. And yes, he and his fellow inmates made objects with this technique to make some income.

Vintage, thrifted clay bird & carved wood bird In my shop: Hello My Friend (please see my profile). // blogged

Looking very chic like this.

Bought this at the local thrift shop. It has been sitting there for ages in a dusty corner. I have been looking at it for ages. Last Saturday I finally bought it. The second I picked it up I had a horde of people tailing me saying they wanted the lamp. Funny, ehh?

vintage curtain hides the unslightly pantry. sometimes i sit in my kitchen and enjoy the lovely glow.

an arrangement of some favorite items that look so right together: enameled metal dish with flower relief, wood carved profile of african woman, crocheted skull i made, and dried palm hat made by my cousin-in-law on saipan.

vintage, found, thrifted, made, recycled, natural materials. this inspires me.

i've started mounting styrofoam blocks on one of my walls to function as toy display and soundproofing. a small solution over tossing these out, i suppose.

i first saw this idea by multi-talented designer/video director friend, roy miles, who mounted a few large styro blocks as wall art. my idea is to cover the wall, in it's entirety. stay tuned....

Cushion from new and vintage material

I've been scavenging thrift stores for vintage needlepoint pieces to turn them into these cushions (40x40 cm). I use feather and down pillows for stuffing. that gives them a wonderful feel. They're soft and flexible and the weight makes them so ... real in a way! I love that so much more than man-made material for stuffing. I like the honesty of natural materials

Rudy's red chair, rudy's red chair. Now say it 3x fast! This chair has significantly seen many gatherings of friends, feasts and conversation. I took this pic Xmas morning 2003. Rudy was making an incredible batch of Russian Tea cookies, that I must say, beat out the nunnery on Guam who shell out their annual treats come holiday time.

If this pic had smellavision you'd be salivating at the scent of vanilla, butter, sugar and warm, crumbly Russian Tea cookies waiting on the side for their powdered-sugar bath. Ok, kettle's on. /// AIBM entry here ///

My growing bangle collection for the island wardrobe. All pieces found on various thrifting jaunts in SF. The Indian bangle with red etching is now available in my shop. Please see shop info my profile.

A vase made of folded papers pieced together -- like Tetris meets origami. This technique is one of the few crafts made by local prisoners -- although, this particular piece was created by free man (local craftsman John Agoun). A chenchuli gift for the lovely chotda

I am drawn to prison art of many forms, but this currently fascinates me. Made of recycled materials. Please check my paper prison art set for more examples.

Vintage fabric and cotton bias tape

My Sketchel for Design Is Kinky's Semi-Permanent 2005 exhibition in Sydney. Curated by the fabulous design force, Jeremyville. You see a trace of the stitching detail on the penguins and the connecting threads. I've always been fascinated by penguins and wanted to give homage to these bumbling birds.

Denim cotton base; red, plum and florals from silk kimono fabric, neon pink & striped cottons. All recycled materials. Photo by magicmikas.

it's all lorimarsha's fault. won't you vote for me? f you're nto so keen on mine, check out lorimarsha's! (but you can still vote for me as i have a lot of catching up to do...)

The tiny bed in the guest room I've come to loathe, yet feel charmed after making it up. Through wanton market purchases, I ended up with a red bed.

My plush contribution to the Plushtastrophe Chicago show at Rotofugi Gallery. Show opened tonight, so hopefully my soft babies had some fun. You know... gettin' their swerve on and whatnots. The uni-looloo's are the 1st offspring of my uni-loo piece shown at Plushtastrophe SF & Toronto. This piece can be unraveled and arranged in various configurations. You can use it as a pillow or even wrap it round your waist if you like.

Made of mostly recycled materials: calico, chintz, twills, sheet cottons, linen-blend prints, felt tongues, illustrated eye detail and purchased googly-eyes. They wear a handmade pompon and satin ribbon.

Grey is a very hard color for me to photograph. I need help in getting the right light.

JPO's cashmere merino thermal pullover, organic cotton poplin, and silk velvet boxer shorts, equate to casual and comfy chic. The Hunter heeled boots add a splash of toughness to the look.

Every wednesday night my two teacher friends & I go to the Sydney Art Gallery for a lecture on 'Decoding the Baroque'. So far we haven't 'decoded' anything. Often I fall asleep during the lecture but at least I don't snore, which is what an extremely well-dressed, upscale matron did last week. It was so loud that the whole lecture theatre erupted in laughter. At the end of the lecture, the Upscale Snorer, abruptly woke up, dusted herself off, & walked out with great dignity, oblivious to her faux-pas.

I, too am trying to carry myself with great dignity standing like a senior spokesmodel next to one of my favourite paintings by John Brack.

I'm wearing a newly-thrifted red shell top & still not ironed plaid skirt, both from The Wayside Chapel shop. I wish you could see my grey & black striped footless tights from 'Target', they just look black in the photo; red tap shoes from 'Bloch's' Ballet shop, thrifted tote from the Wayside; & my first ever scarf, a genuine Hermes, bought when I was working as a clerk at 'Harrods' department store in 1974. It's got all sorts of nasty stains on it, but it's one of my most treasured possessions even though it probably makes me look like the Queen!

The chunky organic wool hand-knit turtleneck and cotton indigo shirt, showcasing the possibility of femininity with texture, chunky knits, and layers.

A cushion I've made for a Christmas competition I'm sponsoring. And I know it's quite early to post Christmas pics but I have to submit before October 15!

It's made from recycled vintage fabrics and vintage needlepoint. It's lined and backed with white linen.
