The tawny owl, also called the brown owl, is commonly found in woodlands across Europe to western Siberia, and has seven recognized subspecies. It is a stocky, medium-sized owl, whose underparts are pale with dark streaks, and whose upper body may be either brown or grey.Hooting woodland hunter with silent wings. Without a sound, the tawny owl descends from its lofty perch to snatch unsuspecting rodents from the forest floor below.

Forgot to add this one from last year. Woodland area off Epsom Downs Racecourse (re-edited).

The Yellowhammer is one of my favourite birds but they're getting harder to find in Surrey these days. So I was pleased when I heard this particular birds distinctive song along a hedgerow the other day. It was also great to be able to take a few photos of him in full song.

Chipstead in Surrey heading towards Merstham, its been a beautiful day in the early 20s and the sunset rounded it off. Driving to get provisions a slight detour down a country lane and here we are! A short journey away from London but scenes like this all around, very perfect.

A nice open stretch of heathland around Sunningdale Golf Course which I thought had the look of the African Savanna about it! I did see a few deer wandering about which was a bit special.

Add a frost to the sunrise... and it makes for the golden glow

as the sun was just coming up behind me near Hambledon Church in Surrey

This old surrey school is about to be pulled down for houses but I thought I would have a wander around before it was demolished. A spooky experience especially as the interior has been severely trashed and I definitely heard rustlings in the building, probably an animal but who knows!

Sky and/or Horizon .

I did get a couple of shots last weekend , but I was not over impressed with them . However , this morning the sun did appear for a while after hiding behind grey cloud all week so a quick stop off at the top of Bocketts Farm Park to catch this view with the high cloud spreading across the otherwise blue sky ( it is all grey again as Darragh arrives ! ) .

Literally just off shot to the right beyond the boundaries of Bocketts is Surrey Hills AONB National Landscape which stretches for miles across Surrey .

Over the next week or two I will post the other couple of shots I had in the wings .

The clouds are probably not that high , but " Stratosphere " sounds like a sight & sound for this week .
