A couple of the Wrangell Range peaks rising majestically above Willow Lake.
Mt Drum (12,010 ft; 3,660 m) and Mt. Sanford (16,237 ft; 4,949 m) are both volcanoes, fortunately slumbering at this time. First time I drove thru here I could barely see the lake, with the heavy rains. Didn't know what I was missing. Sure glad I had a chance to see them on my return.
Happy Friday!

I'm sure anyone who's ever been to Scotland has seen a picture of this mountain - it's in practically every tourist shop on postcards etc. Unfortunately I didn't have the time or the weather to really wait for the light so this is the best I could do.

If you be the cash
I'll be the rubber band
You be the match
I will be a fuse, boom
Painter, baby, you could be the muse
I'm the reporter, baby, you could be the news
'Cause you're the cigarette and I'm the smoker
We raise a bet 'cause you're the joker
Checked off, you are the chalk
And I can be the blackboard
You can be the talk
And I can be the walk

Not sure why the tractor is next to the bench but it made an interesting shot. This is from the Salt Lick Restaurant in....wait for it..Driftwood, Texas. Why's it called Driftwood? I don't know. So, researched it and found nothing. There isn't a lake or any kind of water around Driftwood. Another one of life's little mysteries.
Anyway, hope everyone has a great week.
I'm sure this will bring a smile to the hearts of my expatriate Chicagoan friends.

I took two shots; one before the garbage can and this one with the can. -- Somehow with it's BW dynamics that can adds visual interest and balances out the design of this shot.
- and for all you living in warmer climates - this morning here it is cloudy 46 degrees and of course it's windy !!!
I don't know what this Red-necked Grebe is transporting, it almost looks like a dirty net of some kind, but it ends up part of the grebe's nest. Makes sense!
Thought I'd give the ole 2X tele a try with the 600 and the new R5. I was curious to see how that combination works together and I think it looks great! What do you think?

Not really sure what this is called. I am pet sitting over at a friends house and she has this in a pot on her back patio.
It's raining again..While at her place and watching the rain come down, it occurred that I had my windows up at my place. So, I rushed home and luckily, the rain hasn't blown into the apartment. Phew! I really thought we were done with the rain for a while. I even washed my car..:))
Be sure to zoom in on this photo. I took this picture of the pond behind our house. The actual frame included the opposite shore and the water is reflecting the forest that rises above it. I noticed an unusual quality in the texture of the water and zoomed in to produce this photo. I hope you enjoy the final effect.

for sure it is good to focus on what you want ... but it can be very helpful to take a playful look on the world from a different perspective. 😉

I took this photo of my favourite bridge at Derrybawn from the opposite bank of the Gleanealo river just for a change. I think it works ok though the light is always tricky here. It is my most favourite bridge but Im sure you know that already! Lol! Honestly though, so many here seem to like it too so your all to blame for encouraging me!
I find the name Derrybawn somewhat magical It comes from the Gaelige. " Derry " which is a corruption of the word "Daoire" [ Dirra } which means "Oak Trees " and " Bawn " {Bonn} means White.
So it means " The White Oaks ". Now you are all speaking Irish!!! In Ireland sessile oak trees are often referred to as white oaks. There is one giant tree still standing here which was obviously part of a great forest and I have some photos of it on here.
I do hope you like it.
Im off on holidays shortly for two weeks so Ill catch up when I get back.
Best of everything to all of you!

Sure I can leave a light on
Let it shine on, leave it till dawn
Sure I can leave a light on,
Leave a light on for you.
It takes two to find a way out
there is no doubt I will be round
If you have lost a right track
then I'll lead you right back.
Sure I can play a quiet song,
I could just strum, be the soft drum
Sure I can play a quiet song,
play a quiet song for you.

Nuthatches Shall usually dominate the field whenever present at feeding stations. Maybe not a coconut, but every other nut can be cracked with this beak. Awesome bird!
not too sure really, it looked like it to me at first but after 5 or 10 minutes of this they walked side by side as if they were friends and then a few minutes later started chasing each other around again...we watched them for close on 40 minutes and each time I was wondering are they friends fooling around or male dominance display...

Sure on this shining night
Of star made shadows round,
Kindness must watch for me
This side the ground.
The late year lies down the north.
All is healed, all is health.
High summer holds the earth.
Hearts all whole.
Sure on this shining night
I weep for wonder wand'ring far alone
Of shadows on the stars.

Another shot from Joshua Tree taken last June when there were only four of us shooting in silence in the White Tank Campground. As I was thinking back on that night, the above text from James Agee came to mind. What an incredible night.

"Sure God's all powerful, but does he have lips? Whoa..."
Dear God, how have you been then?
I'm not fine, fuck pretending
All of this death your sending
Best throw some free heart mending
Invite you in my heart, then
When done, my sins forgiven?
This God of mine relaxes
World dies I still pay taxes
Can I be as my God am
Can you be as God am
Can I be as my God am
God of all my God am
So Lord, I see you grinnin
Must be grand always winning
How proud are you being able
To gather faith from fable
Can I be as my God am
Can you be as God am
Can I be as my God am
God of all my God am
God am
My God am
God am
God
All the respect I'm giving
Shared strength acquired by living
All blooming life you're feeding
Can't hide sick ones you're weeding
Can I be as my God am
Can you be as God am
Can I be as my God am
God of all my God am
God am

I was sure glad to see this tough little opossum survived the brutal winter season, even if it did lose part of its tail from frostbite. Here it is drinking water in the middle of the day from a little puddle in the road where some snow and ice is finally melting. Today we topped out at 33 F, the first day above freezing since February 4th.
Not sure what type of Lemur ...a ruffed red ,black & white or mongrel ?? I found this guy at the lemur section in the Cotswold Wildlife Park. Like most lemurs he didn`t keep still for long . Just enough time for me to capture his powerful stare .

Sure do miss these sprightly little gems right about now... hope they’re having the time of the lives down in the tropics.
Not sure why but I now have several of these green Tree Frogs. Got a shot of one with it's tail too. Size of a nickel they are hard to capture free hand but I really like how this one turned out.
An interesting position this Bald Eagle takes in the air as if a bit curious about what it sees below, i.e. trying to decide what it's going to do next.

Sure, start on your journey.
But you are so far away...
No, we just took some steps down the road. It's the journey that matters.
I know... but I still want to touch the clouds...
One day... some day...
Don't forget that the journey matters, the moments on the road and the other travelers you'll meet on your journey will define you...
The moments you want to stop and go back but you take one more step... those are the moments that get you closer to the clouds...
One day... some day...
Continued from I see clouds...
Not sure on this one, maybe a juvenile Least ? Saw many Turns lol but only one like this ....

I am sure this is something that happens to other people, not just me. You see something and immediately a song pops up in your mind. I was wandering in the streets of Chora in Serifos and as I took a turn and walked in this alley I felt a strong wind gust from behind. The closed windows of the 2 houses started creaking and I instantly remembered the lyrics of this Greek old song where the singer says that he feels like the wind passing through the city's streets making the closed windows creak . It was so quiet and so peaceful on that mid September evening in Chora. Its streets were empty and the sound of the windows didn't bother me at all. I stayed there to enjoy that moment and absorb everything through my eyes and ears. White walls, colorful windows, the sound of creaking and a nice and refreshing breeze. Perfection. Happy Window Wednesday everybody.

And here are the lyrics in English:
As I walk out of your door
I will see the round sun
wearing your beautiful last smile
I will wish you good morning
then I will leave, I will be lost
and maybe you will only see me again in your dreams
Because I am the air that passes
in the city's alleys
and makes the closed windows creak
Because I am an evening aura
I am a breath clean and alive
which makes the tilted window shutters rustle
I am leaving to go high on the mountain
and then I will fall off the cliff
as I sway in the depths and the heights
And in silence I carry
an unruly cry
and some unspeakable hope that you have hidden
Not sure if they are a pair first time for me I saw two together,,,focus a little off, depth of field.tough,,, !
Thank you very much for your kind comments, favorites and looking and please stay safe !
Rose Red, Rose Red, Rose Red
Snow White, Snow White, Snow White
You used to call me Rose Red
How could I ever forget?
Full of love and passion you said
Now I'm full of hatred and filled with dread
We had a bond that was stronger than they could ever comprehend
And you know that people fear what they don't quite understand
Rose Red, Rose Red, Rose Red
Snow White, Snow White, Snow White
You used to call me Snow White
A snowflake shining bright
Full of serenity and light
Now my heart is suffering from frostbite
We had a bond that was stronger than they could ever comprehend
We are one, we could do anything if you just hold my hand
We had a bond that was stronger than they could ever comprehend
And you know that people fear what they don't quite understand
Rose Red, Rose Red, Rose Red
Snow White, Snow White, Snow White
All the tears that I have shed
When they took you away, Rose Red
I cried myself to sleep each night
Since we were forced apart, Snow White
We had a bond that was stronger than they could ever comprehend
We are one, we could do anything if you just hold my hand
We had a bond that was stronger than they could ever comprehend
And you know that people fear what they don't quite understand
Rose Red, Rose Red, Rose Red
Snow White, Snow White, Snow White

I have no idea what they make at this place, but my thought was some up-sized moonshine distillery, or a meth lab. I think this was someplace between Raton and Las Vegas, New Mexico. For sure I-25 and northern New Mexico. I've kept a journal since 2009 with date, odometer, and nearest town. So for a picture like this that was taken in 2012, by the date & time of day it was taken, I can usually figure out roughly where I took the picture.
