After overnight temperatures dropped to -8deg C, December 1st 2019 yielded a perfect, windless winter day in the Northern Fells. Merchant Navy Class 35018 "British India Line" passes Salterwath in great style with the second "Santa Special" of the season, hauling a 13 coach load, plus train heating diesel loco. This situation happens only rarely!
A great tribute to our NHS. The last Thursday "clap for carers" tonight, I hope we carry on remembering what a fantastic job they do, often for little reward. Roughly 20%, 1 in 5, of NHS staff are non-British - I hope we remember what they have done for us after this crisis is over and turn our back on the isolationism and (sorry but it's true) racism that has infected our country

Taken the other night at the Equinox evening.
A rare super worm moon loomed large as it coincided with the spring equinox. It was the third time this year a full moon occurred near to the moon’s closest approach to Earth – making it a supermoon – and will be the last such event in 2019.
It was comfy last night taking this photo on a relatively warm Spring evening. A bit of high cloud gave it a halo.

From the Lumpini series.. more HDR Lumpini night experimentation taken Aug 1st.. I was playing with various settings to better grasp & understand my D300 ..:-) I pushed it to the limit with super long exposures.. using my wireless remote that worked flawlessly.. Had lots of fun fun in the process :-)

Suite dans la serie du Parck Lumpini.. Je me suis amuse avec les reglages du D300. afin de mieux cerner et comprendre la bete.... Un HDR/LSD experiemntal de 3 cliches. tres long en expo quasi maximale en digital.. j'ai utilise mon declencheur sans fil qui a fonctionne comme prevu pour une fois.. .. lol. :-)

On a sunny and warm Super Bowl Sunday, L425 hustles west towards the state line just east of College Corner. Not a bad pre game activity!
CN 5457 and 5484 lead L588 across the Wisconsin River bridge near the town of Knowlton. This bridge is a relatively new replacement of an earlier structure. In the early 80s, the Milwaukee Road received some grant money to rehab the Valley Sub in preparation for coal trains to Weston III. Before the rebuild, the railroad bridge also supported auto traffic with a single-lane, wood-planked deck built off the side. It's hard to imagine something like that on a major state highway today.
This was a lucky encounter with this job on my way back from Wausau to Madison and I was able to pop off a single shot here. Not really proud of how I did though; bushes in the way, slightly soft focus, tight crop...a shot begging for a redo, but I never made it happen. About this time, I started digging in to finish my grad studies, so I focused almost entirely on the WSOR.
My Super Stopper arrived Tuesday. This is one of the first tries with it, Filters used = Super Stopper, 2 stop soft grad ND to balance the sky, Lee landscape polarizer. The Super Stopper and polarizer gave me a 6 minute exposure. The image is somewhat noisy. I'll have to work on reducing that.

Very, very overcast night for the big moon. Was getting pretty disappointed, but decided to be patient and snuck in a few shots one of the few times that the clouds broke.
I've noticed that when you take a photo of someone driving a vintage tractor at a steam rally they're always smiling.

The Breitling Super Constellation takes to the skies at the 2016 Zigermeet air show in Mollis. Sadly she has been grounded since signs of corrosion were found on the main spar.

Super Duper Superliner Saturday: Captured on Kodachrome 25 slide film just before sundown, Amtrak's California Zephyr train No. 5 exits Utah's Spanish Fork Canyon on Rio Grande rails the evening of June 19, 1985. The 16-car train will be split up in Salt Lake City with cars going to the outbound Pioneer, train 25 to Seattle and the Desert Wind, train 35 to Los Angeles.
