.............sometimes, it's deafening.

Silence of Sounds

A tapestry of colors

The end of a day

Yet a beginning of night

High in the mountains

And a valley below

Another national park visited

And yet so much more to explore.

Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured one early evening at Crescent Rock Overlook in Shenandoah National Park. The view is looking to the southwest at a colorful display of lights, not long after sunset. My thought on composing the image was to focus on the lights and colors and then figure out angles with the nearby ridges and hillsides to add to the setting. I knew most of the nearby landscape to my front was in early twilight shadows, but figured I could bring out some of the details and colors later in post-production. My main focus was to not blow any of the highlights and capture those rich colors for this image. I used a new SIRUI monopod that I had recently purchased that helped maintain a more stable position and platform for the longer exposure I had as I was working and learning my new Nikon Z8 Mirrorless camera.

This scene could easily be situated in Valencia, at Café del Mar on Ibiza, Topshuis, Cádiz or Rabat. Fishermen hoping for a great last catch of the day. The sun turning the evening red and being as big as one would only see near the equator. The winds have died down, creating a sea so calm and gentle, that one would actually think it was a mirror or - since the Netherlands is currently frozen over – a giant ice floor. Although, the latter would do the earlier fisherman not much good. But that’s perhaps the romantic in me…

Technical stuff

A single shot photo. Take at F8.0, 30 seconds, +1 2/3 at 100 ISO. Although you know I’m a big fan of Aroura HDR 2018, I haven’t used this app this time. Its almost straight out of the camera. Post production was done with PS CC. It included colour toning (especially the saturation side of thinks. That was rather strong in the original), balancing the lighting of the fore- and background) and removing some chromatic aberration on the wind turbine. The latter I did by creating a composite or merged layer and blurring this layer with the Gaussian blur tool (set at 6.48). After that, I blended this layer with the original one using the colour option (it’s at the bottom of the pull down menu). To finish this procedure, I created an inverted mask in the blurred layer and used the brush tool to only remove the chromatic aberration. The latter is necessary due to the fact that this procedure influences the colour toning (it dulls it a little). Finally, I compensated this by ‘umph-ing’ the edges of the wind turbine a little for the masking step. (Any questions? Feel free to drop me a comment.)

Lastly, I added the copyright watermark. The latter is, alas, there to stay due to the frequent copying of my photos. So, don't bother commenting on that.

Merideth, Illinois @ Howard Street, looking west. I was waiting for a train to come along but then the sun rays came out and I thought, hmmm, that will do :-) I like all the lines from the rays and the tracks.

Sunset time, sunlight is touching the grass and there is a

layer of dust in the air caused by rally cars which have

just passed by and the layer is blocking the mountain view, which are also covered by sunset light.

The stage is located in the Morendat Farm vineyards, with its first 4.3km run mostly on narrow and technical trails passing next to short trees and bushes. This is followed by a high-speed section on a very narrow road with grass growing down the middle, before a rough and slower section begins at 5.9km. The end of the stage runs on more grass-lined roads which are quite rough in places and features a new finish

Happy Memorial Day

Golden hour on the River Clyde as seen from Gourock, Scotland.

Cornish, Maine.

Today's sunset from Highland Farms in Cornish.

After a fairly nice day free of rain we had storm clouds on the horizon coming in from the south west, thunderstorm's are expected tonight.

This is one of the very first photos I took with the Canon EOS 6D. The sky on Christmas Eve was great for photography.

The silhouetted man on the left was in the right spot for my compo. The photo I took afterwards I called "Silence is Golden".

It's already in my strream.

I probably bore you with these sunsets, but skies and sunsets never tire me ;-)

Nestled amidst the lush landscapes of Ann Arbor, Michigan, the Barton Dam stands as a testament to early 20th-century engineering and a beacon of natural beauty. Constructed in 1912-1913, this impressive structure not only plays a crucial role in hydroelectric power generation but also in providing the city with essential water supply. The dam, with its serene backdrop of the Huron River, creates a picturesque scene that changes with the seasons, offering a multitude of colors and atmospheres throughout the year.

The sunset on Murano isn’t just something to see, but a chance to enjoy the timeless beauty of this special place near Venice.

I imagine that this is probably one of the best spots to capture a sunset from. No sunset on this trip but hope to catch one later this month when I return to experience this gorgeous landscape again. I can hardly wait. You can see the Gunnison River toward the middle of this scene as it winds its way along the bottom of the canyon and the gorgeous Grand Mesa in the far distance on the right. The Black Canyon of the Gunnison in Colorado.

Panorama view of our sunset today from Rt-160 / North Road in Parsonsfield.

As we approach the end to this interestingly warm summer, I just want to wish everyone a happy Labor Day. Enjoy the long weekend :-)

taken on Savary island Aug 2007 in BC canada. One of the most beautiful ( of many) places in BC to feel the sky get painted with outrageous vivid colors , as though a canvas for an oil painter :) . Evenings and moments like this just simply lull your day to a gentle close.

St. Nicholas Church, an Orthodox church in Tbilisi, is located within the walls of the historic Narikala Fortress, which towers high above the city. The current church, built in the 1990s, replaced an earlier structure that dated back to the 13th century. The architecture of the church reflects traditional Georgian design, with its characteristic domes and stone facades. Inside the church, the walls are adorned with vibrant frescoes depicting important Biblical scenes and saints, including St. Nicholas, to whom the church is dedicated. These paintings, combined with the serene atmosphere, make the church an important place for both worshippers and visitors interested in the religious and cultural history of Georgia. Perched high above the city, the church is not always easy to reach for everyone. The church’s location on the fortress also offers visitors a stunning view of Tbilisi, making it a popular destination for both tourists and believers seeking both spiritual and visual experiences.

In the photo, an elderly woman dressed in simple black clothing, a symbol of her deep devotion and humility, is seen slowly making her way towards St. Nicholas Church with the help of her crutches, determined to attend the service. Her face, marked by the years, radiates a quiet strength and dedication. Despite her physical limitations, her faith is an undeniable force that drives her to this sacred place, where she finds solace and connection in her spiritual practices. The church, surrounded by history and prayers, seems to draw her in as a beacon of hope and peace.

On one of my drives a couple weeks ago, my trusty GPS indicated this lake was close by so I headed for it. Its a nice neighborhood with lovely homes but no lakeside park or anything. Some people just have all the pretty spots, dont they?

I came across this "view" and I had to stop and get a shot.

The sunset was beautiful. I couldnt really get any decent shots but I was happy to end up with this silhouette scene.

Narikala Fortress is an ancient fortress overlooking Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, and is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. The fortress dates back to the 4th century, when it was originally built as a Persian citadel. Over the centuries, it was expanded and fortified by various rulers, including the Arabs, Mongols, and Georgians, reflecting the region’s complex history. The fortress is perched on a steep hill and offers breathtaking panoramic views of Tbilisi, including the Kura River and the Old Town. Although part of the walls and towers were destroyed by an earthquake in 1827, they remain a powerful symbol of the city’s ancient past. Visitors can explore the historic walls and enjoy the tranquility that contrasts with the bustling city below. In addition to its historical significance, Narikala is also a popular destination for tourists and pilgrims. At the foot of the fortress lies the Church of St. Nicholas, a modern reconstruction of a medieval church that originally stood within the fortress walls. The walk to the fortress is an adventure in itself, rewarding visitors with impressive views and a deeper connection to Tbilisi’s rich history. In the evening, when the city lights up, Narikala offers a magical view of the illuminated streets and monuments of the Georgian capital.

One more shot from last week. Had a bit of fun with this by enhancing the sun and its rays. I still cant get over all the ice I saw.

I waited a while for this Metra passenger train to get here and hoped the sunset would cooperate. In the meantime I looked for other photo ops to pass the time. The one below was taken about 35 minutes before the train arrived.

Have a great Sunday everyone :-)
