The firmament has dissolved into a visceral tapestry of hematite and sulfur, casting an incandescent glow that transfigures the water into a vast sheet of liquid bronze. Along the craggy shoreline, obsidian-hued boulders stand as silent witnesses to the sun’s descent, their jagged edges softened by the ephemeral warmth of the gloaming. It is an hour of alchemical change, where the mundane world is momentarily swallowed by a conflagration of celestial light, leaving only the rhythmic pulse of the tide against the cooling stones.
Deep within this crepuscular realm, the distant skeletal architecture of the bridge remains etched against the burning sky, a fragile silhouette tethering two worlds. The atmosphere is thick with a heavy, cinematic stillness, broken only by the low hum of distant vessels navigating the shimmering expanse. This is the theater of the sublime, where the raw intensity of the elements orchestrates a fleeting, dramatic finale that lingers in the soul long after the last ember of light has surrendered to the approaching dark.
As seen looking down the Leeds Liverpool Canal in Lydiate, Merseyside. The canal was flat calm almost like glass reflecting the fire in the setting sun.
Just another shot from last Mondays rather good sunset, I`m told that Tuesdays was even nicer but I was at work and could rather frustratingly see the sky reflected in the building opposite.
“Let gratitude be the pillow upon which you kneel to say your nightly prayer. And let faith be the bridge you build to overcome evil and welcome good.”
― Maya Angelou
A creative take on a summer sunset at the beach. Captured through a pair of sunglasses resting on the pebbles, the scene transforms into a layered composition of warm reflections, clouds, and glowing skies. A reminder that perspective changes everything.
📍 Greece – Summer vibes at their finest.
“Yosemite Valley, to me, is always a sunrise, a glitter of green and golden wonder in a vast edifice of stone and space. I know of no sculpture, painting or music that exceeds the compelling spiritual command of the soaring shape of granite cliff and dome, of patina of light on rock and forest, and of the thunder and whispering of the falling, flowing waters.”
–Ansel Adams
Reflecting on the banks of the gently flowing Merced river, it was not hard to visualize mythical gods aboding those giant peaks. These Gods must have been excited when Ansel Adams visited their garden and decided to craft his version of the Sistine Chapel on films and plates. The master may have stood somewhere close to where I was while shooting the Valley view above… now, that very thought gave me goosebumps. Following footsteps of such an august giant is not easy. Scores of advancements in photography equipment and techniques has made it relatively undemanding to reproduce a classical view. However, to perceive that ‘compelling spiritual command’ within and then reproduce resulting ‘glitters of green and golden wonders’ inside a 3X2 frame is the hard part. Please pardon my audacity, the wee expressionist in me had to give it a try.
Ecco il Sole piegarsi all’abisso,
fiamma sospesa tra cielo e mare,
carro d’Apollo che sfiora l’orizzonte,
fondendo oro e sangue nell’ultima corsa.
Il Mediterraneo lo accoglie in silenzio,
eco di dèi e canti svaniti,
mentre il fuoco si dissolve nell’onda,
promessa eterna di un ritorno.

Blue hour reflections across Canning Dock on the Liverpool Waterfront. Lovely still conditions and a pleasant enough sunset sky make for nice shots.
The Global Affairs Annex stands sentinel at the mouth of the Rideau River, bathed in the golden hush of a summer sunset, circa 2012. Its modern lines and open-frame sculpture rise against a sky of molten gold and deepening blue—where diplomacy meets dusk. Flags ripple gently, water reflects the architecture’s quiet strength, and the moment holds the stillness of purpose before the world stirs again.

On this evening I went to Princess Point in Hamilton Ontario in hopes of getting a good sunset. Nothing was happening in the sky. So, I decided to put on a telephoto lens in hopes of getting a closer scene of the swans. I was new to switching out lenses so I was a bit slow at it. When I stood back up and looked out over the water this is what had happened ... in just a few minutes! My wide angle lens went back on. I'm much better at switching lenses now hehe!
Another shot From Monday evening , I really thought the last hours of daylight were going to fizzle out , but it came good in the end , this is one of the first shots I took, loved the reflections I got.
The Volkhov (Russian: Во́лхов) is a river in Novgorodsky and Chudovsky Districts of Novgorod Oblast and Kirishsky and Volkhovsky Districts of Leningrad Oblast in northwestern Russia. Six Men's Bay, Barbados - January 2025: A fisherman village is illuminated by the warm glow of sunset, as a lone fisherman navigates the tranquil waters. The serene atmosphere highlights the daily life of coastal communities. On the foreground, a local Barbadian man with hat and suit looks serenely at the sea.
The location is a Bajan fisherman village situated on the west coastline of the island, on the Caribbean Sea. “Bajan” is the local term for “Barbadian”.
The ribs of the old Mersey Flat barge "The Beadale" point to the skies like an aircraft defence system, watch out Widnes. The new and old side by side.
The MGB towers reflecting in the Mirror glass River Mersey near Runcorn. The bridge lights start to show about 45 mins after sunset as the sky starts to darken through the blue hour so it is touch and go whether the colour hangs around in the sky long enough to get both.
Blue hour is one of my favourite times of the day to photograph. Without the harshness of the sun above the horizon the details in the clouds really come to the fore. Throw in some still water reflections and a bit of foreground interest and all the ingredients are there for a creative image. This is the Mersey Gateway Bridge spanning the River Mersey in Runcorn (or Widnes if you are from the darkside). The tips of the remains of the Mersey Flat wreck of the Beadale poke through the high tide river mersey.

They don't call this place the "Land of Enchantment" for nothing.

Everybody knows where this is. This is a spot with that 'instagram' appeal as i witnessed with some creators doing their model posing in the usual spots complete with drone footage. But i am just the same when confronted with a picture worthy scene.
Was a bit of a wait to get the little sliver of golden light thru the centre as could see that gap in the clouds and the sea where the sun was going to set. Always a sense of anticipation...
