Dean Cemetery was laid out by David Cousin (who built Chirnside Bridge Paper Mill) and became a fashionable burial ground, its monuments becoming a rich source of Edinburgh and Victorian history, but mainly middle and upper-class. Many bear witness to Scottish achievement in peace and war, at home and abroad.

The cemetery is privately owned by the Dean Cemetery Trust Limited.

Of the many interesting notables buried here are William Henry Playfair, the architect, Sir Thomas Bouch, the railway engineer; Andrew Inglis (d. 1875), M.D., Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and Professor of Midwifery at Aberdeen University; Robert Hepburn Swinton of that Ilk (d.1852); and Major-General Sir Hector MacDonald, the distinguished Victorian soldier (d.1903); and artist and photography pioneer David Octavius Hill (d. 1870). There is a monument to historian John Hill Burton (who is buried at Dalmeny) and his wife Isabella (née Lauder) and their children who are buried here

It was a pleasure to use the Fisheye on this warm, sunny Sydney day. The significance of St. Mark's Anglican Church, located in Darling Point, is that it is where the wedding in Muriel's Wedding -- one of my all-time favorite movies, was filmed. The music of ABBA is a central feature in the life of the film's heroine and, as such, plays a big part in the soundtrack. I'll admit I hummed the orchestral version of "Dancing Queen," featured in a big moment in the film, as I strolled around the city. Well, I mean, not every single moment.

But, um . . . often.

A beck in England is a brook, I learned. Here's a little beck, shaded by trees, with bluebells, ferns and grasses along the bank. From a friend's photo, painted and then given three different effects.

I didn't see any deer in my yard this year, but they were here............and this time they ate half my hosta. Last year they neglected to sample it.

In the hidden orchard where the trees hum with ripened sweetness, the Garden Keeper walks in silence. Draped in a sunflower-gold dress stitched with wandering blooms, she carries generations of secret harvest. Her stripes tell stories—each line a season of rain, drought, and miracle. Legend says she blesses the soil with her footsteps, coaxing life from tired roots. Birds nest in her crown of petals, and when she lifts her hand, the flowers bow, as if remembering an ancient promise whispered in the first spring.

jto wasn't the only guy running around Central Park wielding a sizeable piece . . . of glass. Here, Ray waves his around for good measure. Kyle, meanwhile, smiles indulgently, perhaps already working on a future post in his highly-recommended blog.

This is my beloved wonderful dog, Freddy. I met him in a bar one night. I went to speak with the folks who I assumed were his owners, to tell them how beautiful he was. I was overjoyed when they informed me that he was not their dog, they had just found him on the street and were planning on bringing him to the pound the next day. Bringing him to that bar was their last ditch effort to find him a home.

Well, I brought him home with me and we've been happily in love ever since. That was five years ago!

Noticed this little guy when I cropped the photo - I mean....that was completely intentional!!

Al Mudhif - A Confluence is a collaboration of Sarah Kavage and Philadelphia-based artist Yaroub Al-Obaidi and his brother Mohaned to build a mudhif at the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education (SCEE), possibly the first such structure to be built in North America! A mudhif is a traditional Iraqi ceremonial structure, made of bundled and woven marsh-growing reeds, that serves as a hospitality and celebration space. This mudhif will be made from invasive Phragmites reeds that were locally harvested nearby.

Grand opening Thursday, June 24, 2021, 7-9 pm. RSVP:

It appeared to be floating in mid-air, the sunlight filtered by tree leaves illuminated this bloom beautifully.

The weather has been most manic today.

St. Thomas Cathedral, Mumbai, completed in 1718, is the first Anglican church in Mumbai (then called Bombay), to improve the "moral standards" of the growing British settlement. It is located on Veer Nariman Road, close to Horniman Circle Gardens and the Flora Fountain. The name of nearby Churchgate station has reference to this church.

Gerald Aungier was placed in charge of the British East India Company's newly acquired factories at Surat and Bombay, which had until then belonged to Portugal. As Governor of Bombay from 1672—1677, Angier built a church, a hospital, a court of justice and other civic amenities on the English model, and fortified the Company's commercial establishment. The foundation stone for the church was laid in 1676, on Bombay Green, at the present site of the St. Thomas' Cathedral, but over 40 years elapsed before construction could be completed. Richard Cobbe, the Chaplain, completed the construction of the building between 1715 and 1718. It was opened for divine service on Christmas Day 1718, and since then has served continuously as a church.

The church was consecrated a cathedral in July 1837. The tower and the clock at the western end were added in 1838. About 25 years later a major renovation scheme was launched to enlarge the chancel. This was completed by 1865.

Here, many a Briton was laid to rest under elaborate marble tablets engraved with touching elegies — generals and clerks and young maids all lying together in the silent, sundappled interior. Most of the tombstones bear eloquent messages.

The cathedral was selected for the UNESCO Asia-Pacific heritage conservation award 2004.

Recently the congregation in St. Thomas Cathedral was led by John Silas (on 10 April 2010).

The very definition of sun-dappled.

Scenes like this endear the area to me. Traffic accidents at my corner, due to excessive speed & self-centered driving, not so much! Inconsiderate neighbors & a road crew that's decimated the habitat, also, not so much. Time to move to the next chapter. June 27, 2014, Columbia County, New York, USA.
