SunExpress is a leisure-carrier primarily based in Türkiye; founded in 1989, the airline was founded as a 50/50 joint-venture between Turkish Airlines and the Lufthansa Group which remains to this day with the carrier having a significant presence in Türkiye and Germany. The joint-venture also founded SunExpress Deutschland in 2011 which lasted for 9 years before being liquidated in 2020 with the route network passing over to either SunExpress or Eurowings.
As a result of the joint-venture, SunExpress has a particularly strong presence within Germany with 16 destinations served from various Turkish airports. The carrier's presence at Frankfurt is noteworthy for being one of 3 operating bases that SunExpress operates within Germany, the others being Düsseldorf and Stuttgart.
From Frankfurt, SunExpress provides year-round flights to 6 destinations within Türkiye alongside seasonal flights to 3 other destinations within the country. When looking at the current S24 schedule, the most frequent flights operated by SunExpress into Frankfurt are to and from Antalya followed by İzmir with 5 and 4 daily flights respectively.
SunExpress takes care of much of the leisure traffic between Germany and Türkiye, the airline opting not to provide flights from Istanbul which is handled by Turkish Airlines.
Currently, SunExpress operates 69 Boeing 737s, which includes 54 Boeing 737-800s and 15 Boeing 737 MAX 8s. SunExpress have 54 Boeing 737 MAX 8s and 17 Boeing 737 MAX 10s on-order.
