It has been quite a while since visiting London Gatwick which is due a visit in the very near future as it has rebounded since COVID-19 with new airlines arriving on scene, as well as existing airlines expanding their dominance. EasyJet remains the dominant out of London Gatwick and is unsurprisingly their largest base within the company.
SunExpress is a leisure-carrier primarily based in Türkiye; founded in 1989, the airline was founded as a 50/50 joint-venture between Turkish Airlines and the Lufthansa Group, the joint-venture that remains to this day with the carrier having a significant presence in Türkiye and Germany. The joint-venture also founded SunExpress Deutschland in 2011 which lasted for 9 years before being liquidated in 2020 with the route network passing over to either SunExpress or Eurowings.
In recent years, SunExpress has been expanding across Europe, Asia and Africa; their presence in the UK has been growing with flights to and from Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, London Gatwick, London Stansted, Manchester and Newcastle, with flight to and from Leeds Bradford due to be introduced from mid-2024.
The airline utilises a fleet of Boeing 737s which have been a fixture with the airline since day one with Boeing 737-300/400s being utilised through the 1990s before withdrawn by 2000 when the Boeing 737-800s started appearing, with the eldest examples since withdrawn by newer examples either delivered new or acquired on the second-hand market through leasing companies. SunExpress added the Boeing 737 MAX into their fleet in 2021, the carrier continuing to place faith in the type with new orders for more Boeing 737 MAX 8s and Boeing 737 MAX 10s placed in late-2023.
Currently, SunExpress operates 63 Boeing 737s, which includes 49 Boeing 737-800s and 14 Boeing 737 MAX 8s. SunExpress have one second-hand Boeing 737-800, 56 Boeing 737 MAX 8s and 17 Boeing 737 MAX 10s on-order.
Sierra Oscar Lima is one of 14 Boeing 737 MAX 8s operated by SunExpress, delivered new to the carrier on 18th December 2021 and she is powered by 2 CFM International LEAP-1B engines.

SunExpress Boeing 737-8K5(WL) TC-SNY is leaving runway 23L in Düsseldorf after arriving as flight XQ958 from Izmir (ADB).
c/n 27981 (l/n 7) has had its first flight on 31.07.97 with the test registration N737BX and was delivered as D-AHFA to Hapag-Lloyd on 28.12.98.
This is the Boeing 737-800 prototype.
Hapag-Lloyd became Hapag Fly on 28.04.05. On 15.01.07 the jet was merged into TUIfly. From 05.12.09 to 20.04.10 it was leased to Canjet as C-GCQS. From 06.05.11 to 05.06.13 it was leased to Air Berlin. Since 05.06.13 TC-SNY is in service for SunExpress.
The jet is powered by 2x CFMI CFM56-7B26 turbofans and has a cabin layout with 189 Economy Class seats.
