Went over the the BroFam's house and made these Kaliedescope bottles this evening.
Diet Coke bottles (because I have them in droves)
water, food coloring, glitter, beads of various colors and sizes, some coins and super glue to keep the tops on tight.
They turned out even better than I thought they would.

yeah, not so yellow lemonade as pink lemonade. We didn't end up having any yellow lemonade packets so I used a pink lemonade one and its was still good! The next batch we tried with a packet of orange kool-aid and the kids really liked those!
Recipe:
NEED:
blender
I made up a 1 gallon batch of lemonade, poured it into ice cube trays and froze it
1 envelope Kool-aid lemonade flavor soft drink mix
1.5C water
optional (put for pink lemonade takes the super tartness outta it) 2TBPS sugar
TO MAKE:
Freeze prepared drink mix into ice cube trays (takes about 3-4 hours) until firm. When frozen
THEN:
put 14 of the frozen drink cubes from the tray into a blender, envelope of kool-aid (lemonade, orange, pink lemonade, just try one!), AND 1.5 Cups of water. replace cover on blender and whirl it up. Pour into cups, serve & enjoy.
I added some sneaky things in there that I'm sure my kids with balk at when they read them, do you see it? hehehe
5 regular & 2 value packs of tissue paper down 8 total "flowers" made
tutorial found here: www.marthastewart.com/how-to/tissue-paper-pom-poms-... I think they used double the amount (14 sheets of tissue paper) to make the ones in the photo.
I used twine to tie these onto my girls bunk bed and onto their curtain rods.
A few TIPS: If you don't have floral wire you can use a piece of string just tie tightly. A few tips: the bigger the folds the less "dense" the flower will be. The tutorial doesn't specify but I found it looked better if I worked both sides at once, (ie. pull layer 1 up on the right then layer 1 on the left)
made from:
yarn and ribbon
T.P. tubes
peanut butter (and jelly... because heaven forbid peanut butter try and stand alone)
crushed pretzels
crushed goldfish crackers
crushed peanuts
sunflower seeds
The girls worked hard and put lots of love into these. I worked hard and got out lots of hostility crushing things. Then then birds got to eat.
Total Win:Win:Win Situation

We enjoy visiting Indiana towns, walking, exploring and enjoying. Downtown Chesterton has some great shops with fun signs. The Dog Days ice cream shop has yummy homemade gelato - trust me when I say it's worth a visit!! Then, exit there back door and walk down to the nature center boardwalk (some parts elevated above swamp like marsh land), a part of the coffee creek conservation. It ends at a park with rubber mulch for the kids!! It'll only be two blocks over to the main Indiana Blvd., and 2 blocks North back to Dog Days.
We often visit the Texas coral steakhouse for some family restaurant fun. While it's probably a germ town, we do love to dig into the peanut barrel and throw our shells on the ground, as do all the patrons here. We frequent the Michigan City location. Highland Indiana's is nice too with deer antlers for door knobs.
Our visit was planned around the LaPorte county fair, which we try to visit every year!! Elephant ears, farm animals, animal contests, cowboy keepsakes, and car derby included. It's loads of authentic rural fun. There's a carnival that is attached and a great pioneer town we discovered this year for a flavor of authentic Pioneer life. The kids spent over an HOUR at the pioneer town alone!

Many thanks to Ash for the inspiration and the link! These are fun!
Tip from Ash: spray the bowl with cooking spray and the beads will stay up along the sides better.
I did mine for 17 minutes @300*F (later I realized it should have been 390*F yeah well they still worked) after they where done melting I used a rubber spatula to flip it out of the bowl and onto a smaller bowl wrapped with foil that is upside down on the counter to cool for about 10 minutes. Each of my kids made one (I made one for me too) very cool! Kids can push the beads down to form the bowl and that's it.

This one works SO MUCH BETTER than the try it in the Brownie badge book. (Please forgive my memory, it was 5 years and 2 age groups ago I think it was one of the science badges?)
Will never buy store bought watercolors again. The colors are so vibrant and the science experiment part of it is pretty darn cool too.

It glows!!! Mahhahaha!!!

Mix together glue, water, glow in the dark paint and food coloring before adding borax mix so it glows evenly. Slime on the right wasn't mixed (ahem, impatient boy) before adding the borax mixture.

It ended up being a sponge ball battle. And the sponge balls fell apart, when I put them back together I wrapped the floss around the stack of sponges before tying the knot they seemed to hold better.
I was planning on hanging these from the ceiling but with the paper towel butterflies and the paper lanterns it was too much
