The sultan tit (Melanochlora sultanea) is a large songbird (about 17 cm long) with a yellow crest, dark bill, black upperparts plumage and yellow underparts. The sexes are similar. The female has greenish black upperparts and yellowish throat. The young bird is duller than the adult and has a shorter crest. It is the only member of the monotypic genus Melanochlora, which is fairly distinct from the Parus tits with the nearest relative being the monotypic Sylviparus

This is the Bigest carpet in the world . An Iranian carpet in Sultan Qaboos Mosque in Muscat ( Oman ) . This carpet is 4343 sq meter .

Located on top of the Great Escarpment in Kaliphlin, the town of Sultan's Gate guards the only scalable path up on top of the Escarpment for many miles. The old city walls have crumbled, forcing the city watch to brick up the old doorway.

Sultan Qaboos came to power in 1970 following a bloodless coup. When he came to power there was very little in the way of modern facilities or infrastructure, few schools, hospitals or even paved roads. He has transformed the country and today all Omanis have access to schooling, electricity, potable water, hospitals etc.

Hagia Sophia (Saint Sophia Basilica) - Istanbul - Turkey

Flickr Explored on 1 November 2011. Thank you :)

Hagia Sophia (from the Greek: Ἁγία Σοφία, "Holy Wisdom"; Latin: Sancta Sophia or Sancta Sapientia; Turkish: Ayasofya) is a former Orthodox patriarchal basilica, later a mosque, and now a museum in Istanbul, Turkey. From the date of its dedication in 360 until 1453, it served as the Greek Patriarchal cathedral of Constantinople, except between 1204 and 1261, when it was converted to a Roman Catholic cathedral under the Latin Patriarch of Constantinople of the Western Crusader established Latin Empire. The building was a mosque from 29 May 1453 until 1931, when it was secularized. It was opened as a museum on 1 February 1935.

Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque and Larnaca Salt Lake in the front. Larnaca, Cyprus, Europe.

Hala Sultan Tekke or the Mosque of Umm Haram (Turkish: Hala Sultan Tekkesi) is a very prominent Muslim shrine near Larnaca, on the island of Cyprus. Umm Haram (Turkish: Hala Sultan) was the Islamic prophet Muhammad's wet nurse and the wife of Ubada bin al-Samit.

Hala Sultan Tekke complex is composed of a mosque, mausoleum, minaret, cemetery, and living quarters for men and women. The term tekke (convent) applies to a building designed specifically for gatherings of a Sufi brotherhood, or tariqa, and may have referred to an earlier feature of the location. The present-day complex, open to all and not belonging to a single religious movement, lies in a serene setting on the shores of the Larnaca Salt Lake, which appears to be an important site also in prehistory. Hala Sultan Tekke is a listed Ancient Monument.

The former Sultan of Oman's Vickers (BAC) VC-10 A40-AB preserved at the iconic birth place of British Motor Racing - Brooklands

She was built as G-ASIX for British United Airways and with c/n 820 after a long airline service career she was re-registered as A40-AB and served the Sultan well until being donated by him to Brooklands, arriving there on the 6th of July 1987 after a short hop from Heathrow.

With the constraints of the site, the airfield eventually closed but not before several ex Vickers/BAC aircraft were flown in, the largest being this VC-10.

Originally a motor racing circuit with the famous banked track - some of which still exists - became Vickers Weybridge Airfield where the prototype VC-10 G-ARTA originally flew from before landing at nearby Wisley to continue it's flight-testing. The runway was only 1,460 yards long - amazing that a VC-10 could get out from that but that was what the test pilot 'Jock Bryce' had planned and had sanctioned to save transporting G-ARTA by road to Wisley.

For details of that first flight check out:

www.vc10.net/Memories/Bryce_firstflight.html

Mercedes-Benz took over part of the airfield for promotional use and the Brooklands Museum resides there with several buildings dedicated to British Motor and Aviation heritage.

The unsold Concorde is also on site offering the 'Concorde Experience'.

The old banked track is also accessible and various events are held here throughout the year celebrating it's iconic lineage and history

This camel belonged to Yassin, who was kind enough to let me take photographs of his two camels, Sultan, and his young camel James Bond. Yes, really lol. They have amazing eyelashes! They were both very friendly, no spitting or licking and were happy to be petted.
