Hare Bhare Shah's Dargah, Delhi.

For the Hijras or transgender Khwajah Garib Nawaz is the sole Protector Guardian Savior ,..they spend lavishly generously , feeding the poor during their Niyaz for the Holy Saint .

They do s lot of charity and strangely the Khwajah replenishes it multifold , the hijras dance on the streets and they are there before this chaddar I have removed those pictures from public view completely..

The atmosphere is joyous the drummers and even the beggars are given loads of money by the hijras...

One of my photo gurus would try to explore my mind he would in his silence influence me cajole coax me without forcing to sometimes think like a fine art photographer ..but I would rebel in silence too.

He once invited me to a private nude workshop but I politely refused as most of the models he used looked like commercial workers sensuality was totally lacking .,, I did not want to be part of his misadventure forgive the pun.

This young malang has character and firm in his path he has undertaken of celibacy a big challenge too.

At Makanpur your camera makes you an artist and all thanks to the faces that are part of the landscape of life .

I do not have any formal training in photography but does it matter ..I shoot with the humility of a poet...and every picture becomes a poetry of life.

In the Hindustan Times, Syed Salman Chisty, a servitor at Ajmer Sharief exlains why the martyrdom of Imam Hussain continues to hold universal appeal

“Among the Belivers are men who delivered their promise to Allah”

– Ayah 23/Surah Al-Ahzab

ON THE 10th of Muharram, 680 CE, Hazrat Imam Hussain was martyred by the army of Yazid. This tragedy shook the Muslim world and continues to be remembered by those who love the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) and his family. Imam Hussain ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib was the grandson of the Prophet. He learned his knowledge and inherited his virtues and chivalrous character from his father, Hazrat Maula Ali.

It is written that as a young man he was very pious, intelligent and extremely handsome. Historians have said that he looked very similar to the Prophet, who loved his grandson very much. On one occasion the Prophet was leading the prayer. As he went into prostration (sajda), the young Hussain climbed on to the Prophet’s back. The Prophet remained in that position for a long time until the young boy climbed down. On another occasion the Prophet was passing by his daughter Bibi Fatima’s house and heard young Hussain crying. The Prophet stopped and went in to say, “Fatima, don’t you know it hurts me to hear Hussain cry?”

In a very famous Hadith, the Prophet says: “Hussain is from me and I am from Hussain”. It is taken to mean that “Hussain is like me, Hussain’s line is similar to my line, Hussain’s message is my message, Hussain is from me and I am from Hussain.”

Islam was born in a place and time where oppression was the rule, slavery was a tool to humiliate the weak and killings a way to solve problems. In a society fueled by feuds and raging violence, merely being born into the wrong family could mean eternal slavery, op pression, and stripping away of any and all rights. The Prophet of Islam emerged as the voice denouncing those ways while striving to ensure justice and equality.

Muslims observe Muharram as a reminder that one should fight against oppression and tyranny and help the cause of the oppressed. The tragedy of Karbala took place in 680 CE on the banks of the Euphrates in Iraq but Karbala has a universal appeal and in today’s climate of violence, it is more relevant than ever. The tragedy of Karbala and its spirit of non-violent resistance and supreme sacrifice by Imam Hussain has been a source of inspiration to the likes of Mahatma Gandhi in his own words: “I learnt from Hussain, how to be oppressed yet victorious”.

Hussain’s martyrdom prompted a vast body of literature in a multitude of languages. Sir Muhammad Iqbal, for instance, said: “Imam Hussain watered the dry garden of freedom with the surging wave of his blood,” and wrote: “Rone wala hoon Shaheed-e-Karbala ke gham mein main, Kya dure maqsad na denge Saqiye Kausar mujhe?” “I am one who weeps at the plight of the Martyr of Karbala, Won’t the reward be given to me by the Keeper of Kauser (heaven)?” Outstanding examples of such poetry are the Mersiye (elegies) written by 19th century Lucknawi Mir Anis, one of which holds the world record for the longest verse for the past two centuries.

This heartrending “Salam-i-Akhir” or Last Salutation was recited in Pakistan in the 1970s by Syed Nasir Jahan during the final day of Mersiye Khani (elegy recitation during Muharram) and is now very popular in India, too: “Bache toh agle baras hum hain aur yeh gham phir hai/ Jo chal basey toh yeh apna salam-i-akhir hai.“

And one of the most-recited Persian verses in honour of Imam Hussain was written by none less than the great Sufi master Hazrat.Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (Gharib Nawaz) of Ajmer Sharief:

“Shah ast Hussain, badshah ast Hussain Deen ast Hussain, deen panaah ast Hussain Sar daad, na daad dast dar dast-e-yazeed Haqu-e-binney la ilaahaa ast Hussain”

“King is Hussain, King of Kings is Hussain/ Faith is Hussian, Protector of Faith is Hussain/ He gave his head but not his hand in the hand of Yazid/ Verily, truth is but Hussain.”
