Non-asbestos 12-inch square ceiling tile adhered to non-asbestos gypsum-panel substrate with asbestos-containing adhesive daubs. See asbestos ceiling tile here.
In this particular instance, if abatement is necessary, removal of the glue daubs from the drywall ceiling substrate would likely be "easier" than if the adhesive were applied to plaster or concrete material due to the fact that the paper surface typically just peels away when removing the daubs while they remain intact. Although this process would leave a tattered, unattractive surface all over the drywall.
Plaster, concrete, or other hard substrate surface frequently involves manual chipping, obviously causing damage to both the brittle asbestos adhesive and substrate and requiring construction of a proper enclosure to assist prevention of potential contamination issues.
Oftentimes, if the entire ceiling system is to be removed and the asbestos glue pods may be impacted by the destructive removal process, an enclosure is constructed with plastic sheeting and HEPA air machines to contain the work area and should be conducted by properly trained and licensed asbestos abatement workers.
These deep water creatures live in colonies of burrows on soft muddy substrates. There are tracks linking the burrows and some are co-habited by Frys Goby. Redundant holes make homes for long-armed squat lobsters and angular crabs( Gonoplex r). I eat creel caught langoustine/Dublin bay prawn/scampi or whatever you want to call them after seeing the devastation of their habitat by Norwegian trawlers in Loch Fyne . The prawn beds of Loch Fyne are still recovering years later.

Substrate: polystyrene base w/acrylic concrete and mesh layers. Tesserae: yellow ceramic tile, metallic-backed glass tiles (Karma), crystal glass tiles, stained glass, glass gems, orange mirror, yellow waterglass, vitreous, millefiore, cabochons, and glass beads.
Wall substrate showing ACME gypsum blocks and associated mortar joints, formerly behind wall finishing. This particular construction material appears as a beige-to-tan colored, chalky matrix with wood-fiber and was made by the Acme Cement Plaster Company. Indentations in the block were apparently for increasing surface area for improved adhesion of finish materials, such as layered plasters, mortars, adhesives, etc.
First snow of the year.
For the past few years I've been trying to puzzle out the best way to capture particular features of snow & ice; In reflection and transmission, with various polarization states, differing angles of incidence, and at specific wavelengths. I experimented with dozens of substrates both specular and diffuse and with differing index of refraction, attempting to lure out interference effects and other multi-surface reflection phenomena. I constructed elaborate optical systems to quickly capture these fleeting crystals in whatever form they fell. And every offseason I would ponder new technical stratagems to meet the next winter's arrival. I admit that I did try and make them pretty too. But I fear the scientist in me always overruled the artist, I was able to get what I was after but not necessarily was I wanted.
This last summer I added nothing to my arsenals feeling I had kicked all the tires and that I have ridden this fascination to the end of the road.
A few days ago snow was forecast, and it was to be very cold. Usually, around here December brings the warm wet stuff, a pain in the back to shovel, and a pain in the ass to photograph... It was just enough to entice me out. I was lazy about it though. I set up shop in the greenhouse where I would be separated enough from the elements to make it bearable, but still be cold enough where the subjects wouldn't melt during their closeup.
Having not really prepared anything beforehand I used what was at hand. For this picture I used the tip of a dried out fern to hold this dendrite. The epiphany wasn't immediate, it took a few shots before I realized I was instinctively doing what I was longing to do all along, extract the beauty out.

Small area of 9-inch square asbestos floor tile with wear damage; the tile and associated mastic material have been worn through to the concrete substrate below. Where did the asbestos go?
Inhabits coastal waters over corals and rocky substrates . Usually hides beneath ledges and small caves during the day . Small juveniles have only two white stripes, dividing with growth into numerous lines. The lines break-up into dashes and spots when adult . Feeds on fishes. Has toxin-producing glands in the dermis which is extremely bitter to the taste. (Encyclopedia of Life) Nuweiba, South Sinaï, Egypt
After the Rain, Summer Morning, Rocky Mountain Front Range, Colorado. There are about 17,000 known species of lichens worldwide. They are comprised of fungi (mostly 16 orders of ascomycetes). Bryophytes from algae or cyanobacteria, living among filaments of multiple fungi - living in a symbiotic relationship. They can survive long, dry periods and can resist high and low temperatures.
Types of Lichen Structures:
Squamalose - flat leaf-like, scales
Foliose - flakes on surface, like peeling paint
Crustose - powder-like, leprose
Example of vintage asbestos 9" x 9" floor tile with asbestos-containing black mastic on concrete cement floor substrate.
This image shows an area of bare concrete floor whereby the floor tile has been absent for some amount of time; in side-by-side comparison with an adjacent area where the floor tile was loose and subsequently removed, exposing the asbestos mastic below.
The bare, exposed concrete section was formerly coated with asbestos mastic like the area next to it , but the asbestos mastic has apparently been slowly abraded and worn away by countless scrapes from metal-legged stools and chairs (and foot-traffic?) over time near an adjacent countertop station.
Where did the asbestos go?
La Garrotxa, is a Catalan pre-Pyrenean region that is located in the province of Girona (Spain) and borders the regions of Ripollés, Osona, la Selva, Gironés, Pla de l'Estany, l'Alt Empordà and Vallespir ( Pyrenees-Orientales department, France).
The Alta Garrotxa natural space presents an abrupt landscape, with narrow and deep valleys surrounded by high cliffs and rock walls. On the other hand, Baja Garrotxa is soft and humid, the valleys are flat due to the effect of volcanic activity and this has led to the development of the most important populations in the region, with Olot being its capital.
The natural park of the Volcanic Zone of La Garrotxa is the best example of volcanic landscape on the Iberian Peninsula and one of the most important in Europe. In 1982 it was declared a Natural Site of National Interest with areas of Integral Reserves of Geobotanical Interest. The Park extends over some 12,000 hectares, within which thirty-eight volcanic cones have been counted; the territory is medium mountain, and extends from the 200 m high of Castellfollit de la Roca to the 1100 m of Puigsallança, the highest point of the Finestres mountain range.
La Garroctxa is a land of nature, the variety of vegetation and fauna is extraordinary. The high rate of rainfall, the variety of substrates and the differences in altitude and orientation of the mountains are reasons why in such a small space can be found from the most typical Mediterranean vegetation to the vegetation of the Central European type or Atlantic trend.
The region also has a cultural heritage of incalculable value: medieval towns, Romanesque hermitages, the Roman road of Capsacosta, etc.
Someone abandoned their motorhome along Interstate 10 in Riverside County. It's become a substrate for street art. This originally had tires and an engine but they're now gone. Even the disc brakes have been picked off of the chassis. Ten years ago, this never happened. Now, it has become common.
My understanding is that towing companies often don't want to touch these vehicles. I think abandoned vehicles, when towed, rack up storage charges. The owner may claim the vehicle and pay towing and storage charges. If the owner does not claim it and vehicle were saleable, the towing company can sell the towed car after acquiring title. If you tow a recent model car and this occurs, it works out well for the tow company. They can't sell these motorhomes because they're garbage. I expect the state, county, or city government would have to pay for disposal. It's parked on a public roadway and no one else would.
...A whole lot of risks — the risks of layoff, the risks of job-stopping illness — lots of risks that we were previously helped to bear by business and government have been shifted to our backs and the backs of our families. I don't think that Americans realize the extent to which that shift has occurred.

The Verreau's Sifka is mainly an arboreal species keeping to the trees, but on the ground their mode of transportation is hopping.
Verreaux's sifaka (Propithecus verreauxi), or the white sifaka, is a medium-sized primate in one of the lemur families, the Indriidae. It lives in Madagascar and can be found in a variety of habitats from rainforest to western Madagascar dry deciduous forests and dry and spiny forests.
Its fur is thick and silky and generally white with brown on the sides, top of the head, and on the arms. Like all sifakas, it has a long tail that it uses as a balance when leaping from tree to tree. However, its body is so highly adapted to an arboreal existence, on the ground its only means of locomotion is hopping.
The species lives in small troops which forage for food.
The Madagascar spiny forests (also known as the Madagascar spiny thickets) is an ecoregion in the southwest of Madagascar. The vegetation type is found on poor substrates with low, erratic winter rainfall. The ecoregion contains an outstanding proportion of endemic plant species and is part of the Global 200.
Notable inhabitants of the spiny thickets include the spider tortoise (Pyxis arachnoides) and the radiated tortoise (Astrochelys radiata), the gecko Ebenavia maintimainty, several lemurs including Verreaux's sifaka, Grandidier's mongoose, and eight endemic birds.
